Is Henoc Muamba pi**ing away his football career?
Ripper replied to IC Khari's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Muamba, scheduled to earn $230,000 in 2016, was owed another bonus payment of $23,000 in April followed by an additional $23,000 when he reported to training camp at the end of May — provided he passed his physical. That’s a total of $106,000 he would have received before playing a game for a team working with a $5.1-million salary cap. -

His biggest problem is his agent -

What are waivers? What is the waiver priority order? How is the waiver priority order determined? How long is the waiver period? Why do teams put players on waivers? Before a team may terminate a player (release him from the contract), they must allow other teams to claim the player at the current contract. This process is called waivers. If a player clears waivers (is not claimed by another team) he is released and becomes a free agent. There are two types of waivers, with recall and without recall. With recall allows the team waiving the player to recall the player if claimed by any other club. Full details of the waiver rules (albeit outdated in some areas) can be found in the CFL By-laws, Section 4. The waiver priority order is the order which teams are given the opportunity to claim a player. It is established based on the finish order from the previous season with the Grey Cup Champion having the least priority and the other club competing in the Grey Cup game have second least priority with the remaining teams ordered by their reverse order of finish, using the tie breaking procedures if necessary. After the first third of the season (all teams have played six games) and the second third of the season (all teams have played twelve games), the priority order changes to the current reverse order of the teams, using the tie breaking procedure if necessary. From midnight after the Grey Cup game until midnight, May 15th, the waiver period shall not be less than seven days, not less than 48 hours from May 15th until the date final rosters must be set and not less than 24 hours from the date final rosters are set until the date of the Grey Cup. https://cfldb.ca/faq/league/

Just a thought here, but doesn't that throw up even more red flags? If Crompton is hurt his salary is off the SMS books. Even more reason to see what Cato can do in camp. Clearly Cato showed some game when he played for a rookie. Now they have no interest? Why?

Agreed, he would be fair game. He didn't want to come to Regina the first time, likely because he believed he had a better opportunity in Montreal to actually play. I can't see him viewing Regina any different now. I suspect if he gets no calls he will take whatever he can get. If he does get calls he will be looking for a home where he can be the clear number 2 guy. New management aside, Smith I suspect is our clear number 2 so again don't see the Riders as a option. Personally not sure I want us to even look at him. Red flags go up for me as to why he would be released ahead of Crompton, I suspect locker room issues or something else is at play.

With Taman gone, just curious why you think that?

I can see where you would say that. I sort of see ours NI's about the same as yours. OL Riders have a lot more experienced Vets there with Labatte, Clark, Best. DL, Bombers are solid with Shologan to anchor the line, sorry but Westerman is still a little bit of a loose cannon and hasn't shown himself to be a leader yet, however Westerman is a terror out there and will only get better. Bagg is a solid vet Canadian receiver for us much like how Kolhert is becoming for you. I don't know man its fairly close. Not sure I'd say it a big advantage either way
-
It will likely be Matt Webster, he saw time there last year. Newman may get his chance in there too I suspect.
-
Sadly, I'm afraid his next injury will be his last. If any of you have ever met him it is remarkable what kind of shape he is in. He is a carved piece of granite. Demski is going to be pushing for a starting job this year and that helps a lot if Bagg does go down.
-
Plugger? A guy who kind of gets in the way if you run right at him? Sounds about right. Don't take this as a shot but he started all your games because your Canadian talent last year was that bad
-
Who isn't one knee shot away from retirement? I imagine John Chiles will emerge as the number receiver with Roosevelt. Denmark and Bagg will be 3 and 4. TBH I'm really sure how excited I am about either. But if DD is healthy it will work. The focus and biggest area where improvement will be seen is on the defensive side of the ball and that I am excited about.
-
Agreed on both counts. I've posted here before that I don't mind Bucknor either. Hurl can play here and there and not hurt you. I'd be concerned if he becomes a long term option due to injury.

First of all, reasonable post. Posts get blown out of proportion all the time because, you are correct, people want to spin it to match their opinion. My isn't a number one comment is exactly a good example. Maybe someone can correct me, but The highest Dressler has ever been in league receiving is 3rd and it only happened once. At 240k, at the time he would have been certainly either the highest or second highest paid receiver in the league. I believe only SJ Green was making more at about 250'ish. I never said he hasn't been the riders best receiver, I meant he has never been the leagues best receiver. The Riders under Taman featured multiple highest paid at their position guys, the model couldn't continue. Labatte, Getzlaf, Chick, Dressler, Durant, all making highest or near highest at their position money. I'm not exactly the president of the Durant fan club either, as I'm sure some of you Bomber fans that post on our site can verify. Chick was one of those guys for me that I would defend to the bitter end, Rob Bagg also. Lets be honest here about something else, the rider fanbase as a whole had no idea how much money Dressler was making. When it hit the news, many fans felt a whole lot different about him and what his contract meant to our lack of depth, after all its costs money to have quality depth. Obviously I loved the plays that he made and things that he did, but in my job I'm a dollars and cents guy. I get paid to watch company money and get value. I liked him but he was never one of my favorite riders, but the second I found out what he was making, I wanted him gone. Whether you take me at my word or not makes no difference to me. Felt the same with Durant, had he not taken a pay cut I had zero problem with him being gone. Seen too much boom and bust in riderville this last 8 years. I want consistency and cost certainty and competitive football. No more winning cup one year and sucking the next. Ideally, Dressler's deal would have been restructured and he would have stayed. But come on guys, how many of you actually believe that was going to happen? As I said, and will continue to stand by, Dressler leaving however unfortunate is not by any means the end of the world to me. Even Chick who I am still a big fan of had to go. For the contact you signed Dressler at, he is a huge pick up for the Bombers and something to be excited about. Look at it this way, how many of you would have kept Denmark for what the riders signed him for?
-
In your opinion, I'm supposed to agree with you guys to be considered as being honest? I never said he won't be missed, there are people here mad as a hornet to this day. I said he won't be missed by ME. Do you unconditionally love every player on the Bombers?? I suspect you probably don't . I suspect that maybe there might be some that even though they are good, fans still call them over paid. I read the posts here about Drew Willy when you guys were losing, bumb, overpaid, bla bla bla.
-
You are 100% right about that.
-
Chick is the one I'm disappointed about. He only has a year or so left, would have been nice for him to finish it in green. Dressler won't be missed by this fan. Obviously I always thought he was good, but he has never been a number one receiver in my mind, therefore doesn't deserve to paid as such. I'm not one of those fans that gets overly attached to the players, they come and go. The world isn't coming to a end because Dressler isn't here and it will have no effect on how our season unfolds
-
Smith was a free agent, so he wasn't let go. He has had concussions and was looking for a good raise. The team didn't see him worth what he wanted, pretty simple. If he stays healthy, he can make plays. Dressler's contract was ridiculous, so lets not even pretend there was any way to clean that mess up without getting rid of him. Seems lots of Bomber fans want to play the player scorned angle with the Dressler situation, I guess it helps you guys feel better about it. As far as drunkin fans, lots of them wearing bomber jerseys too and every other team in CFL also. The fact that we simply have more fans than anyone else always makes us a target. We have had beer cans thrown at us more than once in Calgary by Stamps fans. Chicken shits hiding a deck above us too scared to come down and do it to our faces. The Calgary police regularly throw the Rider fans out for no reason at all, there have been issues there many times. I'm not defending what idiot fans do. Myself and my wife have been to Winnipeg more than once and usually its always good. We wear our jerseys and cheer for our team. People that go looking for trouble usually find it, and we don't.

I never ever said Waggoner wasn't talented or didn't have potential. My point was he is a rookie. Demski showed spurts of being a hell of a player, but made some bone head rookie mistakes at times to, its a process. There's no point making this a ten page argument. My point is having a American kicker has implications to roster, same as a Canadian running back. Juggling will need to happen if injuries occur. Myself personally, I like the team to just start 7 and have good depth for all 7. If you guys disagree and feel what you have in place is more than good enough than fine. I see you with 7 starters and nothing behind that. I'm not here to change your mind. Its a discussion about football, people don't always agree. Guess we'll see how the season unfolds
-
Being on the field in a victory against the Riders last year probably includes almost every player in the CFL so you'll have to add a little more depth to your response than that. Also How many CFL starts does Waggoner have again?
-
Because he is a good player and they believe he will return to the cfl. Players drafted a hell of a lot higher than the 4th round end up out of football in a hurry if they can't cut it in the NFL. They signed him, doesn't mean a lot more than that.
-
Onyemata signed 4 year deal with the Saints.
-
For the record, I am concerned about our ratio situation. Also I totally forgot about Kolhert. I also never said at any time that it couldn't work or no one has ever done it. I was simply stating that having a American kicker does have repercussions on roster when injuries happen and the juggling starts as it does every single year in this league. If starting rookies is how you guys are going to handle it then fine. One other thing, make sure to start Hurl and Bucknor against us please and thank you.
-
I'm not a expert on the ratio but you are limited in DI spots. Using one for Medlock is import when injuries come and they will. Neufeld has had trouble staying healthy, who is your Canadian backing him up? My guess is you guys will at some point this season have a Import tackle playing on your Oline. Hurl is just plain bad so starting him in Lieu of a American is a bad move IMHO. Gossen, Chung, Westerman, Shologan, Harris are 5 solid starters for sure. Bucknor likely starts also. So with Neufeld there is your seven. I'd be worried about injuries if it was me.
-
Totally true. Its give and take. The money has to come at the expense of a player elsewhere and the ratio adjusts. Medlock's winning field may not happen because of blown coverage by a Canadian in the secondary or a blown tackle by a Canadian linebacker. Its risk for reward. I will agree that without doubt Medlock is the best kicker right now in the league so good on you guys for getting him. He will make a play at a opportune time to likely win a game somewhere along the way. But don't discount that your ratio will suffer because of it. If you feel your Canadian content is good enough to cover for it than its not a issue. Myself I don't see it
