What valid points did you make besides throwing around some what ifs and make excuses for an incompetent police officer by deflecting from his actions/inaction and blaming the subject? I'd sincerely like to know. Typically, the onus is on the person who's been trained to manage and deescalate high stress, intense, constantly evolving situations, not the person with a gun pointed in his face and then at his back with seemingly no justification whatsoever. That's why LEOs have the authority they have: they're supposed to be held to a higher standard because of their role in upholding the law and maintaining societal and civil order. Any LEO cognizant of and capable in his training within the framework of the law should know better than to open fire on someone with their back turned, especially when he had ample opportunity to neutralize that subject well before the shooting occurred, and especially when he's got backup with him. The threat assessment in that situation is low and puts him at an immediate advantage to neutralize the subject without lethal force. Instead, he just followed the subject at close range for several seconds and let him continue moving to his vehicle. That's either poor training or a complete disregard for his training - and either appears to be a seriously glaring problem with law enforcement in the US. You say the subject is foolish for not complying with orders and you're not necessarily wrong. But isn't it just as foolish, if not more so, the police officer allowed the situation to escalate needlessly by following him at arm's length with his firearm drawn and doing ostensibly nothing else until opening fire? If the LEO does his job properly and employs a more appropriate intervention method when the subject began to walk away, the likelihood both men go home at the end of the day is very high, and without major incident. Instead, we've got one in the hospital and the other on administrative leave as an investigation is launched into why this happened. His inaction during the altercation is what led to the final outcome and that's a near perfect example of excessive use of force, inextricably changing two lives (at least) in the process. I get what you're saying about looking at it from multiple angles but it isn't reasonable to ask a member of the public to hold himself accountable for his actions while not doing the same for the person who's been tasked with protecting those very members of the public. Unfortunately, it's events like these that have so many alienated or outright afraid of law enforcement, particularly in marginalized populations. Can you really blame when this **** happens with the frequency it does?

It's on the LEO to control the subject and deescalate the situation. For all we know, the LEO wasn't even issuing verbal commands and was just pointing his weapon right in the subject's face. But there's no use playing the what if game, so why even go there? A LEO's duty is to the public. To protect the public and serve it by upholding the rule of law. In this instance, he didn't do his job because he let a subject continue to be actively resistant and walk away from him. He had ample time to neutralize the subject and properly and effectively deescalate the situation. He didn't manage the situation and now a man has seven bullet wounds because of that negligent incompetence. There's no onus on anyone but the LEO here; it's his duty and his job to be the law. I'm not sure what's so difficult for you to understand about that. If you're going to make excuses for the LEO, why not do the same for the subject who got shot at point blank range?

It has nothing to do with being on one's computer chair. It's common sense as far as proper training goes, and it's clear this particular LEO was either poorly trained or not trained at all. He flubbed this incident completely and now an innocent man is recovering in hospital due to his recklessness and outright stupidity. He was within arm's reach of the subject the entire duration of that video. He had strength in numbers with a colleague being right next him. You don't wait multiple seconds to let an actively resistant subject return to a vehicle with unknown contents. You holster your weapon, or lower it at the very least, and draw a different intervention option, or utilize a control technique like a takedown, either with the assistance of your colleague or not. I'm not sure what his verbal intervention was like during the incident but it was obviously ineffective. This LEO demonstrated his lack of knowledge in his job, in a situation where he's required to make decisions to protect the public good. He failed miserably. The blame is not 50/50 - at all. The LEO could've and should've handled it differently. This is a cut and dry case of excessive use of force.

I sincerely have no idea how back to school is going work here or anywhere else as case numbers continue to rise. Manitoba's plan seems particularly messy and I fully expect cases to explode once classrooms fill up in a couple of weeks. https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/coronavirus-covid19-world-aug-24-1.5697396 I have this sinking feeling the second wave is going to hit the world within weeks - and hit it hard.

Some clarity on today's opt-out period and how it'll relate to teams retaining players' rights.

You'd think by now these candidates would have actual, thoughtful, concrete solutions to all these problems in Ottawa caused by the Leftist Bogeyman since 2015. This supposedly prosperous vision for Canada remains virtually unknown or at best, very unclear. Scheer suggesting the CPC is "in great shape" smacks of delusion to me. His comments about challenging the leftist elites, the mainstream media and its left-wing bias were also comical and very Trumpesque. His departure should be seen as a win and O'Toole would benefit distancing himself and the party from such a tired, petulant, and ridiculous narrative. All of which is to say nothing of the technical issues yesterday. What happened is a bad look in itself for a party who prides itself on managerial competence.

I didn't, either. It's been widely unknown. Only a few days I found out but it's been allowed, since at least early June: https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/u-s-travel-restrictions-covid-19-land-border-fly-1.5607741 I can understand wanting to visit family there but I wouldn't step foot on a plane these days to travel domestically, much less to travel into the COVID-19 Cesspool south of us.

Canadians are apparently permitted to travel to the US but only by air. Makes absolutely no sense at all.

Wrong. Dead wrong. TNSE purchased all of the old logos years ago: https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/local/true-north-buys-old-jets-logo-131123723.html TNSE can use any of the 1.0 logos, colours, and trademarks whenever it wants. The 2016 Heritage Classic, the Jets Hall of Fame induction ceremonies the last few years, and the 2019 Heritage Classic are all plainly obvious examples of this fact. The statistical history of 1.0 belongs to the original franchise, now located in Arizona. I don't think there's a way to "reacquire" that history per se but TNSE has mentioned it all whenever it's celebrated 1.0 history or those players. For all intents and purpose, the Jets 1.0 belong here and TNSE made sure to cover that base when it successfully relocated a team here nearly a decade ago.

I'm still amazed how Brandon is a hotspot in the entire country.

2019 Redo - Week 11 Aug 23 - Blue Bombers at Elks

It's pretty lame the CFL website doesn't have an archive available for previous games over the years, especially now that a 2020 season isn't going to happen. It'd be fun to go through classic games, milestones, and moments from seasons past. -
Did Brandon get annexed by the US...? Jee-zus, what a tire fire.

2019 Redo - Week 11 Aug 23 - Blue Bombers at Elks

No luck finding a stream of the full game (I gave YouTube a quick glance and had no luck) but here's the recap video from the CFL website: https://www.cfl.ca/2019/08/24/recap-winnipeg-34-edmonton-28/ EDIT: holy ****, I miss football. -
Reliving the 2019 season would be a great alternative to there not being a 2020 season. It was a hell of a ride!

Why should it be a government's responsibility to hold the hand of a business when it's requesting public funds for financial assistance? Ambrosie strolled into Ottawa back in April, more than a month after this pandemic established a foothold in Canada, with what looked like nothing more than some bungled request for $150M and no plan in place as to how to allocate those funds to facilitate its 2020 season. That ham-fisted approach proved to be a costly mistake and reflected poorly on the league and the commissioner, immediately putting them at a disadvantage for future discussion. You wouldn't roll up to a lender, ask for a Brinks truck worth of money, and then not be expected to explain what it's for or how it's going to be spent. And FWIW, I don't imagine the federal officials with whom he met just laughed at him and not tell him what was required for further discussions to move in the right direction. It's been nearly four months since that fateful meeting and what tangible progress have we seen? It shouldn't have taken this long to sort out the situation and we all waited and waited for something concrete but it never happened. It seems like there's been more finger-pointing, obfuscation, and doublespeak than anything else until yesterday's unfortunate and disappointing announcement. Which is to say nothing of the seemingly widening rift between the league, the owners, and the players. The CFL needs to do away with its lack of transparency with regard to its financial landscape, and I think that would benefit it significantly during normal times but especially at a time like this. Let me be clear here: I won't make any excuses for the missteps and errors made by the feds in recent years (there are too many to count) but I don't think any gov't official should be blamed for a private organization being unable to formulate a plan to save its business operations during a worldwide health crisis. That part is on the league for not having done its due diligence and making sure its t's were crossed and i's were dotted when requesting financial assistance to keep its 2020 aspirations alive. All levels of government have enough on their plates at an unprecedented time like this. Expecting them to guide an established organization like the CFL through the process of requesting financial aid doesn't seem reasonable at all. A professional sports league should have the right people in place to navigate the best interests of its business, including the highest office of said league and its major stakeholders.

Perplexing, indeed. I think that's because they're nothing more cultists who have perverted the very religious beliefs they purport to fervently follow. And that's one of the biggest problems with religion, IMO, particularly the Abrahamic ones. It seems like the loudest ones on social media are always the most ignorant, bigoted, and intolerant. It's pretty disgusting.
