This **** is unprecedented. And pretty unsettling. It makes me wonder if the feds plan to put the Emergencies Act into force.

Where are you working during the Covid-10 shutdown - March 23rd
blue_gold_84 replied to JCon's topic in General Discussion
Still at work. Federal essential service employee. Our admin staff has been put on a rotational schedule to reduce the number of people in the office, but that's about it. It's been a weird vibe here at work the last week and a half. 😔 -
I'm sure it took much more than that but I'm nonetheless glad and proud that Canada took the lead in backing out and putting the world's priorities in the right order, unlike the craptacular IOC. What's still perplexing here is how the IOC seemingly continues to drag its feet: https://www.cbc.ca/sports/olympics/tokyo-olympics-will-be-postponed-1.5506910 Seriously, make the right ******* call already.

Methinks it's going to be a good while. This situation worsens by the day and I can't see international travel for non-essential purposes resuming for quite some time. I'm just glad to see Canada take the lead with the Olympics as the IOC drags its heels looking incompetent and out to lunch.

Idiots of all ages are not taking this seriously. That's been amply demonstrated both by young kids partying in Florida claiming they're invincible and middle-aged adults/retirees continuing to travel recently and then lie about their whereabouts upon their return to Canada. Stupidity is not discerned by age. Meanwhile, in Russia: https://qz.com/1822523/russia-reports-few-coronavirus-cases-but-sharp-spike-in-pneumonia/

FFS... Now another troll emerges in this sub-forum to spread bullshit misinformation from lousy sources. That's some embarrassing cherry-picking and actually substantiates nothing save your case of DKE. The Stat News article makes some valid points - I'll give you that. But it's also rife with whataboutism and needless deflection ignoring the reality of the situation, making the author tone deaf. It's also already out of date and the death toll has basically doubled since it was written. Strike 1. A link from Global Research links, though? That's as bad as NTZ and WUWT... Tinfoil hattery fueled by ignorance, delusion, and conspiracy theory. Not even worth entertaining such junk. FOH with that garbage. (https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/global-research/) Strike 2. And then a blog... In other words, some random person's opinion that does nothing more than conform to your lame confirmation bias. Strike 3. Kindly get the **** bent, man. You're part of the problem.

It doesn't go both ways when there's a consensus among experts in their respective fields saying this needs to be taken seriously. It's no different than any other consensus based on scientific data. Yeah, the media has a tendency to sensationalize what it reports but that's neither here nor there when rates of infection along with death tolls continue to rise. To what influences is the WHO subject where it would be dramatizing this type of global event, anyway? And no offense, but calling this overblown and labeling it a hype job when the data flies in the face of both terms is about as cavalier as it gets. You can't show a lack of concern and then say "of course it's serious."

Those are all obviously tragic things and nobody denies that. The world is a very cruel and unforgiving place. But this COVID-19 thing is different for a number of obvious reasons, hence how the world is responding to it. Emergency measures, border closures, shutdowns, etc. are happening because of the serious nature of this pandemic. Arguing otherwise is just tone deaf to the reality of the situation on this planet right now. To say the world's reaction this is overblown or disagree that it isn't a pandemic isn't reasonable. And resorting to whataboutism isn't reasonable, either.

I like how he decided to whip out the dictionary and then bold out the portion that actually supports the WHO's literal usage of the term. "bUt It'S a HyPe JoB!"

Canadian Armed Forces told to prepare for waves, worst case scenario: https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/covid19-military-vance-1.5504247 Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. Makes sense but man, this is unsettling.

This comment aged well. Amazing what can happen in a week with a newly evolved virus in such an interconnected world. Just for reference, the WHO defines a pandemic as "the worldwide spread of a new (novel) disease," such as a virus. In the case of the rapid global spread of COVID-19, the WHO was being diligent and proactive in its application of the term pandemic. As we've seen over the last seven days, what most experts predicted is exactly what's happened. I hope he hasn't decided to grow a 'stache…

That was sickening. But purely intentional and hardly surprising seeing how this administration works. Shameful, disgusting behaviour - especially at a time like this. And then there's this shocking development: https://www.cnet.com/features/inside-a-pro-trump-youtube-disinformation-network-that-spans-vietnam-to-bosnia/

Shameful.

I'm envious. I'm federal front line essential service, so we still have to show up at the office - at least for now. Things have slowed down a ton, though. This is some crazy, unprecedented **** going on in the world. I don't have the words to accurately describe the feeling but it's all kinds of bad.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/maga-memo-virus-1.5501024 The about-face by these MAGAts is honestly unbelievable. I guess that's what happens when common sense gut punches you, though.

If you're stuck indoors and feel like putting your PS4 through its paces with some quality single player games, I'd recommend - in no specific order - the following: Red Dead Redemption 2, Uncharted (all four games), Horizon Zero Dawn, Tomb Raider (all three games), The Witcher III, The Division (both games), Sleeping Dogs, and The Order*… I could go on but all of these would keep even the most obsessed gamer busy for some time. Oh, and of course I'd suggest trying the free FFVII Remake Demo. It'll give you a pretty good idea what to expect from the full game that launches in early April. * The Order isn't much of a lengthy game but it plays so well and looks absolutely gorgeous

Oh, look... More finger pointing and deflection.

Even late May and June get pretty lame once it starts getting nice out. The obvious exception being the Jets in it... I don't think I watched a single playoff game after May Long Weekend last year.

But wasn't it just a big hoax by the crooked dems and the fake news media?
