The top two lines were pretty lousy last night, especially in their own zone. Stastny was fantastic and his chemistry with Laine and Ehlers was pretty impressive considering it was their first together. Giving up two two-goal leads on home ice is pretty inexcusable. Last night's loss should be a good reality check for this team going into the final stretch and the playoffs, and a good reminder of the importance of playing well defensively.

Pursuing (or wooing) a highly prized NAT FA MLB isn't uncommon practice and said FA exploring his options doesn't make him self-important. That still doesn't answer the question, though: is it really a circus? I don't see it.

Giving up what's basically a late first rounder and an unsigned prospect who has yet to even see NHL ice (or a 4th rounder in 2020 if said prospect doesn't sign in St. Louis) isn't necessarily an overpay for Stastny and 50% of his contract. And it's not like the Jets are worse off for what was traded for him, anyway. In fact, they're better down the middle on account of this trade.

Adding depth to the blue line is never a bad thing. And Cheveldayoff did so for a 4th rounder, which is pretty good.
