  1. How can you say that given that he's never played more than a handful of snaps at HB? The "IMO" suggests that its my opinion. I base that opinion off of what I think his skill set is. That's what this board is for correct? to form opinions and have discussions about our favorite sports team? I understand it's your opinion. I was asking how you came to form that opinion, seen as how he's never played the position before. didn't we recently have a conversation about this... Sorry, I missed the conversation... I'm thinking that the conversation he's referring to is not football related. It concerns "seen as how" versus "seeing as how". Irregardless of that, I could care less.
  2. You know what, I don't think it's are serious as all that. Yeah they didn't win a championship, but Milt Stegall (and the rest of the great players around when he was) made a lot of football fans in Winnipeg. Those are people in my age bracket (or just a bit below) who became fans watching one of the best players ever and they're in that age now where they are having families which likely passes the tradition of being a fan down. Sure there's probably not a lot of under 25s but really in the grand scheme of things that's not too big a deal. The thing gets turned around they'll jump on the band wagon too. I hope Wade Miller and the Bomber directors aren't subscribing to this theory, but are instead busting their butts everyday to make this franchise as respectable on the field once again as it is in the hearts of us older fans who actually remember a time we could be proud of the on field product ... Seeing that the directors have nothing to do with the on-field product, I wouldn't be holding my breath on that.
  3. Always enjoyed gbills contributions and hope he comes back soon. This forum should be working to attract posters, not drive them away. Maybe we could hold a GBill Appreciation Week and name him forum poster of the century. Might not be enough, but it would be a start
  4. If the Riders can survive their history, I'm confident we'll survive too.
  5. I don't believe Doug Berry ever played anything and he turned out to be a good positional coach... Here's the thing, playing a position certainly helps but it is not an absolute requirement for understanding fundamentals and how to coach. Coaching is really just teaching and some people can teach even if they aren't themselves experts in the field. And further to that, just because someone has played a position and was good at doing it doesn't automatically mean that they can transition into becoming a successful coach. Two very different skill sets are required and that's why I always chuckle when someone says "We should get <insert retired player's name here>. He'd be a great coach." Ya, maybe but then again, maybe not.
  6. Calgarians...
  7. All I’ve heard for three years is how no one wants to sit in minus-30 conditions for playoff games in CGY. Fair. I guess plus-10, too. — Scott Mitchell (@SUNMitchell) November 16, 2015 When the marquee franchise can't get 35k or so to a semi final their is something wrong Look back over the past couple decades and see how attendance was for semi-finals in both conferences. 26 is probably right around the median, maybe slightly above. For back-to back semis in 2002 and 2003, the Bombers drew 22,000 - 23,000. For the 2007 semi-final Bombers drew 23,000. BC, Edmonton and Calgary have never been know to draw great crowds for semi-finals either. Sasky was 3000 short of a sellout in 2013 for the semi. Seems like a reasonably fixable problem for the spiffy new commish. to solve...seriously. Makes no sense that attendance drops off for playoff games. To start with don't crank playoff ticket prices up above regular season prices and start the season 2-4 weeks earlier to keep the fair-weather fans interested. They didn't crank ticket prices up in Calgary though. Tonnes of $35 - $45 tickets available too which is the same price those seats sell for in the regular season. If teams choose not to sell playoff games as part of their regular season packages, which I believe Calgary does not do, then it will be tough to sell 35,000 individual tickets for semi-final games. The best the league will do is move the season up one more week so the first week of the regular season does not overlap with the final week of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Another factor is the draft. The league will not move the season up any earlier than mid-June (late-May for training camp) due to the NFL and CFL draft. People need to accept this. If by some crazy chance we see a 10th team in the CFL, the Grey Cup will happen an additional week earlier in mid-November. Here's hoping... Calgary isn't as rock solid in their attendance as people want to believe. Too many NFL only douchebags in this town who don't give a **** about the CFL. Too many economic migrants that have no past connection to the Stamps or Calgary in general who just want to jump on the flashiest party train, basically soulless zombies attracted to bright, shiny objects. Like I said, douchebags. In polite company, we simply refer to them as "Calgarians". All present will normally respond with a knowing "ah, yes, Calgarians" and nod sagely
  8. I left the other Blue Bombers forum because it didn't provide for an ignore option, even though I asked the mods there if that would be possible. I was told that I should just ignore one particular poster by not reading his stuff, even though, as I pointed out to them, he posts in just about every single thread and causes lots of issues, not because he is full of gloom and doom, but because he's insanely optimistic. So no, the ignore option, which I've used on only 2 occasions, is not to drown out voices that I don't agree with, it's to filter out the noise. So thank you to the people running this board for giving us users the power to filter the discussion as needed. It is appreciated.
  9. Hey if enjoying a forum is only seeing like minded opinions that's totally up to you.If we were all rah rah we could go 0-18 every year and just gather in a circle and sing praise be Blue!☺ It has nothing to do with "rah-rah". It has to do with some people contributing nothing but whining about how bad the team is. I'm quite willing to except that this team has a lot of warts and if people want to discuss those warts intelligently, I'm all for it. If, on the other hand, people just want to ***** non stop in every thread they can, adding nothing of value to the conversations whatsoever, there's no intelligent discussion to be had so... off to the ignore list they go.
  10. It's unfortunate that we have to place people on ignore, but some people just scream out "Add me! Add me!". Thanks for the reminder Blitzmore. I'm looking forward to a much more enjoyable experience now.
  11. The rule is beyond stupid regardless of the reasoning. Just make kicking the ball when it's dead a penalty for the safety of everyone. A penalty anytime balls are kicked after a play? Seems reasonable to me I can get behind that.
  12. Each team supplies the footballs used by their offence, so if a defensive player kicks/throws a ball into the stands, it's a penalty because the ball belongs to the other team. If an offensive player throws/kicks the ball into the stands, it belongs to his own team, so there is no penalty.
  13. I maintain that this team isn't viewed any better today than it was 2 years ago as nothing has changed. No one who is a quality coach employed now will come here if they are already a coordinator somewhere else. Why would they? So, it'll be a position coach who wants the promotion. But probably an unproven rookie OC who was a position coach. So, don't expect Jason Maas to come here. Don't expect Marcus Brady. Or George Cortez. They won't be coming. It's the culture. It's just what they do. It's The Bomber Way. Of course you maintain that view. You're here only to piss and moan about anything and everything related to the Bombers. If you're so troubled by this organization, why don't you do yourself a favour and move on because your routine is getting old, friend, it's getting real old.
  14. Worse, why would those quality coaches come here after watching the present group of players and this management group flounder for two years? We're going to have to show them the money, the players, and the management group before we're going to be seen as a desirable location to ply your trade. Richie Hall, Westerman and West say hi.
  15. Well, we landed one in 2015. Maybe real professionals look at more than just the win/loss record before they make a decision.
  16. How do we know that O'Shea wasn't trying to give advice/suggestions to Etch all through that year. At the same time, you have to let you coordinator do what it is you're paying him for, so it's expecting a lot to expect a rookie HC to just get in there and do it himself and send his DC packing mid season. At the end of the year I recall O'Shea saying that he had had a talk with Etch and had tried to get him to make some changes, but that Etch couldn't buy into them. Sounds to me like O'Shea did have some ideas after all. Having said all that, O'Shea did not do well in his first go-around of hiring HC's. That's obvious and I'm thinking he's probably used all of his "whoops" passes in that department.
  17. We aren't discussing whether or not he would be a good DC. Just whether or not it would be unrealistic to expect him to know how to Design a Defense along with another DC (Etch), which is what your original statement was. That it would be unrealistic to assume so. I'm simply stating that since he's already shown he can take on field experience and transfer that to a playbook via Special teams. It isn't unrealistic that he could also do that for a Defense. Whether or not it would work out is another discussion all together. If he were a former DC at any level then I'd agree with you. As he wasn't I don't. So only DC's can recognize or design defensive schemes then? I'm betting that lots of defensive position coaches can, to various degrees do it, and I'm willing to bet that some players can too. I know this because there is no "magic" that happens once someone is named defensive coordinator. They are not suddenly able to do things that they couldn't do before, it's just that they are now being paid and given the responsibility for doing it. So does O'shea have a background that might allow him to help a DC put together a defensive package? Of course he does. Arguing that he doesn't is just plain silly. Would O'Shea be really good at doing it? Maybe, maybe not. Sure that's how it works. Once someone has enough experience points they level up and gain new skills that they don't have access to before. I am defeated...

Expecting a HC with 4 years coaching experience total, none of it as a DC, to fix Etch's schemes when he's been a coach since 1980 and a DC since 1994 is ridiculous. No GM, even ours, would expect that to happen. If our HC was an ex-DC, then expecting him to help and fix Etch's schemes would be realistic. I always enjoy reading your responses because you really do try so very hard to move the point of the argument around as much as possible. If you were in charge of setting up the goal posts for CFL games, you'd have them on dollies.

  20. Okay then why was MB fired? He had no decent qb to work with according to you. Like somehow Nicholls was a piece of crap?? Why is it okay to use that excuse with MOS but not MB? He lost his field general but somehow he's a shitty coach & O'Shea isn't? #fansdoublestandard Because maybe O'Shea believes that his OC, the man tasked with designing and running the offence did not do a good enough job in protecting Willy or adjusting the system to help out the quarterbacks that followed. Edit> Dang, ninja'ed by a goalie... Mike O'Shea the Teflon Man. Canned 3 coordinators but nothing sticks to him. Pretty flimsy reason WBBFanWest. At some point, he has to be held responsible for lousy coaching hires. But not yet, I guess. I 'm sure he probably has 2 or 3 more staff firings left in him before the Positrons realize the guy is a lousy HC.. Or, we could just rage about it incessantly because that makes a ton more sense and looks way more intelligent. Yeah because you know it's not right. That all the **** falls on every other coach on staff but O'Shea. So much for the Captain being in charge & having any responsibilty. The absolute glee around here on Monday that Bellefeuille was fired & MOS was kept because Willy got hurt is so ridiculous. A few points: - I didn't see anyone here that I would describe as "gleeful" that MB was let go and O'Shea was kept. What I saw was a lot of people very happy the MB was gone, period. - Just because others are not braying nonstop of their desire to see O'Shea fired doesn't mean that they don't have concerns. For example, I've been concerned about O'Shea ever since he announced that Etch and MB would be his DC and OC. I didn't think that those were good hires. Turns out, they weren't. I'm still concerned, but seeing that it appears that he's going to be here next year, I really don't see that much purpose in doing what you seem to be doing, spewing anti-O'Shea stuff in every thread you possibly can. We get it, you don't like O'Shea, but I think that your continual raging just makes you look silly and it's not like Walters is going to read your posts and say "Wow, iso_55 really doesn't like Mike. I guess I better do something about that right away." - Here's how I'm approaching this situation: I'm not sold that O'Shea is the right guy for the job, but seeing that he's there and I want the Bombers to be successful, I'm going to have to hope that O'Shea finally gets rolling in year 3. Because to desire otherwise means that I'm actually wanting the Bombers to fail, and I would hope that no fan would have that sort of attitude.

  23. Reading some of these comments reminds me how much harder it must be to be a real GM, with real demands and real decisions to make without using hindsight as your main tool.
  24. Normally I don't like to celebrate someone else's misfortune, but having said that... And good on O'Shea for not having to do the "long walk in the snow" before deciding the obvious.
  25. So is your post because you are talking about Walters...
