  1. You really can't blame Brohm for being Brohm but you can certainly question the football acumen of the brain trust that thought he'd be a good guy to have around in case our #1 QB went down, because all Brohm jokes aside, he ain't a good #2.
  2. Almost like a guy named Crompton who was 4th on the depth chart and went on to become a 7-1 starter for another team..... what team did he play for before he joined the Als?? Almost like a guy named Crompton who was 4th on the depth chart and went on to become a 7-1 starter for another team..... what team did he play for before he joined the Als?? Really an apples to oranges comparison. Crompton was not a known quantity in the league, so it's not quite the same thing. Nichols has been in the league for 6 years, every GM knows him and yet we got him for next to nothing. Now, of course, I'm pleased that he is here and I hope he plays well, but I really don't see him becoming the starter that lots of teams are suddenly interested in considering if they really thought he was that good, he'd have been picked up much earlier.
  3. Remember, Nichols has been in the league for more than a few years now. So that being the case, how likely is it that he goes from a guy who ended up 3rd on the Eskimo's depth chart and expendable to a legitimate starter inside 1 year. The short answer is: he doesn't
  4. Bear in mind that Nichols is a guy that has suffered a few serious injuries in his career, so that night make teams a bit gun shy about looking at him as their starter. Also, he might just decide that he actually likes it in Winnipeg (a strange thought, I know) and be willing to sign an extension here.
  5. You do realize that you grip the ball differently depending on whether you are preparing to throw or not right? He was looking down field preparing to throw when he got hit hard from behind. The majority of the time, he's going to drop the ball, just like any other QB who doesn't have a ginormous hand and/or kung-fu grip. So the fault of that one is the guy who missed the block allowing the defender to hit the QB on the blindside. It is not really something you can "coach-up" because he's got to hold the ball that way in order to throw it. It's on the O line to protect him. It's not Nichols fault.
  6. 2.. both of his fumbles. He get's blindsided by a guy coming through on a missed block and you think that's on him? Ok then, I guess. The fumble where he was tackled running downfield, that one, for sure is his. You gotta hang on to the ball better when you stop being a QB and start being a RB, no question.
  7. Someone needs to explain that auto ignore function to me. Please? Click on the persons profile then click ignore. Can't do it with moderators, but easy to ignore a specific persons posts whenever u see their name. Exact same as ignore function Blessing upon you!
  8. No one is saying, as far as I can tell, that he's our saviour. Rather he seems to be a more than servicable backup QB. We'll get to see more of him in the coming weeks so we'll be better able to make that determination, but it certainly looks promising. And seriously, you're going to judge his abilities based off of the first half of the first game he's played for us? With all of four practices? Of the three turnovers, I'd put one, and only one, on him. Some people seem to have an unrealistic opinion of how long it takes to fit into a new system, a fear of giving credit where credit is due, or both.

  10. I don't think the running game worked out as well as planned but at least they stuck with the run tonight throughout the game so that is encouraging. On second thought that probably had more to do with never being behind by more than 7. The running game doesn't have to chew up a bunch of yards in order to be effective. They used it enough that the Rider D had to be ready for it on any given play and that helped keep them a bit off balance. At the same time, I'm not overly pumped about our running backs at the moment so hopefully Walters can find us a top drawer model in the NFL cast offs.
  11. This is what I think. O'Shea wants to be the nice guy, but if it comes down to someone like MB threatening his job, I'm not sure mike's all that nice anymore
  12. Brings back the never ending question, is it Brohm or Marcel? Can't it be both?
  13. Glad to see you've found your happy place... finally
  14. He utilized the run a lot more effectively and there were even a few shovel/screen passes too. i think it's likely that with the win tonight he's made sure that, baring a complete breakdown in the O, he's here for the rest of the season.
  15. Oh, and for all of you (and you know who you are) who were predicting a blow out by Saskatchewan, remember that the next time you want to make your bold proclamations of doom and maybe, just skip it.
  16. Absolutely horrid 1st half except for our D, who kept us in the game. I was pleased to see that we actually seemed to make some adjustments at the half and the team came out stronger in the third. Not great, but better. Nichols played a pretty solid game for only having 4 practices, so it was fortunate that we were playing against a less than stellar D as it gave him a chance to get some sort of rhythm going. They clearly aren't world beaters yet, but at the same time, with an offence that can actually move the ball (1st half excluded) we might just surprise a few people.
  17. I gotta say that I'm enjoying my time here but there are now a few newish posters that seem to have an agenda that is making it a lot less enjoyable. I can understand that people are upset over the season thus far. I'm no positron, believe me. I certainly wasn't over on TEP and in fact, I left there because of a few insanely RAH RAH types that saw everything the team did as the greatest thing that would ever happen in the history of football and the human race, and seemed to be able to post and do whatever they pleased, while we who responded to them were policed. I'm beginning to see the same thing here, but in reverse: here it's becoming "everything and everyone connected to the Bombers sucks at all times." The latest posts concerning Muamba and how if Walters doesn't sign him then this is the absolute proof that Walters is the worst GM in history is more than a little over the top. Now, being 3-6 can do that but at the same time, it's my opinion that a few people on this board need to step away from the ledge and calm the hell down because after all, we could be 1-8 right now.
  18. Instead, O'Shea got very indignant and said he wasn't going to get into it. When Brown tried to rephrase the question in a kinder light O'Shea got even more indignant and rude. Not very professional. But it would be professional to go into detail whats said behind closed doors to players? Why do you feel the need to know what is going on? You cant honestly believe because oshea doesnt dance to the medias tune, that he doesnt reprimand them? He doesn't have to go into detail about what's said behind closed doors if he doesn't want to. That's the right of the guy who wears the big hat. However, he doesn't need to get short with Brown, because Brown is simply doing his job as a media person. Also, if we are to assume that O'Shea is doing something about stupid penalties, we have to also assume that it's not working very well, so the question was fair comment.
  19. It's already confirmed a 100% done deal. But are they sure?
  20. List of great Norwegian Comedians: http://blank.org/
  21. You could make the argument it already has as both TV numbers and league wide attendance are down this year. I know I"m losing interest extremely fast. CFL always has been a second rate pro league but it is our league and I support it. But now it's NHL rookie camp - and McDavid - that I'm interested. In fact, I'm far more interested in reading about McDavid's first day at rookie camp - which was just a physical - than I am about anything CFL, including who the QB is going to be. As for the officials - I'm still extremely pissed at that moron Al Bradbury who was looking on when Willy took that hit on the chin. There's supposed to be zero tolerance when a QB gets hit in the head, regardless of the circumstance that lead to that hit in the head. No different than when a punter is contacted. Yet it seems to be open season on Bomber QB's especially. Trust me, if I were a dlineman playing against the bombers, I'd have no concern about hitting a bomber QB low, late, or to the head. Why? Because I already know I got a 50/50 chance of getting away with it (or better) and any retribution on my QB will be called immediately. Hence why I call this a second rate league - there are clearly bias's when it comes to officiating. For a guy who's not interested in the CFL or the Bombers, you sure seem to spend a lot of time talking about them.
  22. CFL News @CFL_News .@sportscage - "I was told that this was coming from Jim Barker of the Toronto Argonauts." #CFL #Riders via @620ckrm So there it is, and if it's on the internet, it's gotta be true.
  23. I heard the Hufnagel bought the Riders or something.
  24. So just so I know, how many times will you have to be told that the BoD had NOTHING to do with any of those hires except for Wade Miller? Ultimately, the **** falls on the BOD if the underling hirings don't work out. I'm guessing you haven't been on a lot of boards. I have experience on one here in Calgary. We did hire 3 head football coaches for 3 different community teams under the same organization when I was on that board over 3 years from 2004 thru 2006. I actually helped set up that very board as our first bantam team went from being an expansion team being run exclusively by the league that set it up to a team part of that league but acting independent of it decisions wise. Under the board, our organization grew from one bantam team with 34 kids (ages 13-15) to 2 atom teams (ages 8-10), a pee wee team (ages 11 & 12) & a midget team (ages 15-17) with nearly 200 players. I congratulate you on your involvement in your community. Boards like that need good people who are prepared to roll up their sleeves and get the dirty work done. Having said that, I can assure you that the type of board you sat on is very different from that of the Bombers. I've been on NGO boards, community boards like the one you have served on and corporate boards. The Bombers will function very much like the corporate boards. They'll approve budgets, set overall goals for the corporation, set policies and by-laws, review various aspects of the organization and receive reports from Miller, and if required, from other senior managers. What they won't do is personnel stuff or football operation stuff. Trust me, you do not want a board messing with that stuff. Ever.
