I would take this kind of post from you more seriously if you made the same excuses for Marve. You didn't. You chose to crap all over him instead. Marve wasn't 21 of 26 for 184 yards. If you really think brohm was the problem I suggest you watch again. What did Brohm do out there? Dinking 3 yard passes? hey great job. Just you ever pause for a moment and reflect on the fact that maybe the short passes were the called plays by the OC? Brohm is clearly not the answer, but let's be a little bit rational.

You obviously didn't hear about the unfortunate dumpster fire at the stadium. It appears that's where they were storing those jerseys.

Mr Miller, please do NOT hire Brendan Taman in ANY capacity!
WBBFanWest replied to IC Khari's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Actually yes he did. He won the cup by doing what he tried to do here, trade away draft picks for aging Americans, load up on free agents, and build up to what we got in 2007. A shot at the cup. We lost, but in 2013 it finally paid off after how many tries? And now we see the result of his strategy in Regina, same as here when he left. A completely depleted roster which will take a long time to recover from. He's a mediocre GM (at best) flying by the seat of his pants, looking no further than the end of the year. No thanks. -

By the way, it's easy to crap on the Bombers because if you're right you can say "Told ya so." and if you're wrong you can proclaim how proud you are of the team and hope that most posters forget the earlier crapspew. Pretty simple strategy really.- 33 replies

You forgot Westerman... I always forget him... so 9-10 Cdn starters - and still no one rotating with Hurl Or... you've miscalculated the number of Canadian starters we'll have. Any chance it might be that? Anything's possible... I can see 8 confirmed starters, plus Thomas and Pontbriand getting significant reps... Which is different that the 9-10 starters you originally claimed. Counting other Canadians that aren't starting but might play as required might be a bit of creative accounting on your part. "Significant reps" =/= starter. If you're going to rant, rant, but don't make stuff up to support your argument.

A Comprehensive Review of Kyle Walters

Except that the Bombers would have no reason to salute the Rider fans. A better choice might me "Morituri te middleus fingerant" My apologies if that isn't completely correct. My latin is a bit rusty.

We can do worse. We are likely doing worse right now with Brohm/Marve. Who would you propose we get? Bearing in mind that finding someone who's good enough to be a quality backup but not good enough to be a starter is a tricky thing to do.
-
Test drive? Ya, that would be completely reasonable. "Here Matt, here's the playbook, learn as much of it as you can in 3 days cause you're going in. Try not to suck it up too bad."With the patient fans of Winnipeg watching, what could possibly go wrong with that strategy? And with the patient fans of Winnipeg watching it's only going to be worse with Brohm. Real game reps for Nichols this weekend has got to maximize our chances of winning the back end of this home and home. Rome wasn't built in a day, but they sure as hell didn't waste time with garbage like Brian Brohm. And watching our brand new acquisition flounder around in the backfield because he doesn't know the system or the players is likely not too helpful either. O'Shea obviously thinks that its too soon to start Nichols and I can understand that. If Brohm plays like you're fearing, I suspect that it's possible that we could see Nichols go in at some point. I'm betting that O'Shea is hoping that he doesn't have to do that because the chances of Nichols looking real bad strongly outweighs the chances that with half a playbook (at best) he can come in and be the saviour. So let's hope that Brohm can put together his game for the ages and go 12-24, 214 yrs, 1 TD and 1 int, because that with 3 field goals and a pick six might just be enough to win.

Around the CFL Regular Season Discussion
WBBFanWest replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
As much as you seem to think otherwise MOS is going nowhere. Learn to accept thatWalter won't fire O'Shea.Save his ass he might. If I was a GM I'd never hire a friend to be a HC. That way if I have to fire the coach, I'm not destroying a friendship so there'd be no second guessing or regret. My conscience would be clear. How many times does it need to be said that Walters and O'Shea were NOT friends when O'Shea was hired. So they hated each other's guts then? Must have been an entertaining job interview. Walters: O'Shea, you suck. O'Shea: So do you, ya big jerk. Walters: God, I hate you. Wanna work here. O'Shea: Sure. -
If a QB dresses, then there is always the potential of having to play, regardless of how ready he might be. But having said that, Nichols had next to zero time to learn the playbook and get some familiarity with his receiving corps. So to ask him to step in, baring something unforeseen, really wouldn't be a good plan. Especially when you consider that if he was to go in and look bad, which wouldn't be real surprising, a lot of fans are going to cut him exactly zero slack, and then the first time he makes a bad throw or a bad read during the Banjo Bowl, the average fan in the stands is going to react like the average fan.

You're ready to write Marve off after one start? In a thread earlier this week it was noted that Glenn took three years to develop before he showed positive results, same goes for Durant, Reilly and Burris. Basically yes as there are better qbs out there we can bring in than Marve. Burris spent his first year in 1997 on the Stamps PR. In 1998 he saw limited time appearing in his first game. In 1999 he got his first few starts, led the Stamps to 2 victories & looked good before being injured with a torn ACL in August that year & missing the rest of that season. Hank put up much better numbers than Marve his first start. And he showed he had a strong arm, athletic ability & accuracy. Something Marve can't do. What people aren't understanding is that a QB must have the fundamentals to play the game at the pro level. Just because some QBs took years to develop, it wasn't because of their fundamentals. They were working on their understanding of the game and ability to manage it. Durant, Reilly, Burris, Glenn, Calvillo all have one thing in common. A good accurate arm with a quick release. This is why they rose to the top. In pro sports you can't teach a player how to throw. He either knows that by now, or he's gone. Marve struggles with his accuracy, and he is a fundamentally poor thrower of the ball. Might want to recalibrate your sights. They're set awfully low.

Here's a quick synopsis: Walters starts looking for an experience QB after drew goes down. Walters gets distracted by shiny things in the office and forgets. After the Calgary disaster he remembers "Oh, yea, the QB trade thingy. Got to get back to that." Has shiny things removed from office. Calls Edmonton Makes trade. Attaboy Kyle.

If I'm not mistaken, we've signed more than a few FA's in the past year too, so...

Dunk: Chevon Walker to sign with Winnipeg

You've really got to start wearing a helmet and cage when you play. On second thought, it's probably a little late, so go nuts and continue making those saves with the top of your melon! -

Riders have won like 4 cups in their entire existence tho... but yeah, reading some posts, i would say quite a few people have given up for sure. Other than a very select few people on this site, I don't see a lot of people giving up on the team. Casual fans, sure, they come and go, but the Bombers have a solid corps of hardcore fans that have stuck by them, and continue to. What I see here is a lot of people expressing frustration and I fully get that. I'm bloody frustrated too. But this year, at least it looks like, for the most part, the Bombers are trying to fix whats broken in midstream. I appreciate that, and I know most of us here likely feel that way too.

I really like this move because once Willy comes back we have a legitimate starter and a reasonable backup. Can't say we've had that for a long long time now. One dark cloud on the horizon is, of course our Offensive Coordinator and his patented "have the qb drop back 3 steps and get hit by three d linemen, a linebacker and maybe the safety all at once" play. I like how the Bombers are trying to improve by addition. Now it's time to get better by subtraction.
