  1. Yea? So what if our quoting system sucks. The Riders are 0-6. So there... (Actually I didn't have anything to add. I just like typing Riders and 0-6 in the same sentence)
  2. Good job Drew, but the only individual honour that I'd really like to see him win is Grey Cup MVP
  3. No regerts, no regerts at all.
  4. Was in town for the game last night with my daughter. A great time made even better because she's a Lions fan. Free drinks after the game...
  5. Ever think of changing your online name? Something like Captain Contrarian? General BuzzKill? If you need any help let me know.
  6. No harm, no foul mate. And yes, I get that my world view isn't universal (and let's all give thanks for that!). If I was Taman, my big fear would be to someday look back on my life and regret that I often took the path of least resistance. What might I have done and accomplished otherwise? Maybe Brendan's comfortable with that, and that's fine... for him. I want the GM of my team to be a guy who does what he does for the Bombers because he believes it's the right thing to do and wears the result without excuses. As I said, I have no doubt that on a personal level, Taman is a real nice guy and I'm happy that he's being a real nice guy, in Saskatchewan, and I hope that he's there for a long, long time to come. I think you are making a lot of assumptions on Taman's motives and decision making based solely on what is reported in the media (unless you have some kind of inside knowledge). When you are in a job like GM that has so much media exposure, what you say and do externally doesn't always match with what you say and do internally ... and for good reason. You might be right, but at the same time, he has certainly never said anything to my knowledge to refute those rumours. And then of course there's the point of how would rumours like that get started in the first place and who might want to see them spread.

  8. I'm glad that they are only making one change to the starting O line. The more that they play together as a unit the better.
  9. No, I don't know you, so let me ask - do you have a boss, or are you truly self-employed? If you've ever worked for a boss, you do what they ask you to do. Ever work late, through lunch, cover for someone else who is sick, get handed a project with a deadline you know can't be met without cutting corners somewhere? And you'd say no every time to any of that? Enjoy the unemployment line. No I'm not self-employed and I think that you seem to have missed what I was talking about. I'm not talking about the day to day stuff that every employee, management or otherwise, has to put up with. I'm talking about the core stuff that one does. If I'm hired to do a job and then I have a boss who wants to spend his time telling me how to do it, he and I would (and this has happened) have a conversation about why I was hired and what my expectations are for my job. If we can't come to a satisfactory understanding, then yes, it's time to move on. Fortunately, I've found that in most cases, if you show your superiors that yes, you do know your stuff and if you make sure that you keep them "in the loop" they tend to step back and let you do your thing. If not, then why in the world would someone stay where they really aren't respected or appreciated.
  10. Well, you don't know me so your opinion is nothing more than your own mindset, but understand that there are people who will not do a job if they are not given the tools (authority, resources) to do it.
  11. LOL!! This is just fantastic.... Hey, it's ok, some people want to watch marionettes dance around, others don't. Personally, I'd love to have a job where I could sit in a chair collect a salary and have someone above me make all my decisions for me. Oh wait, I forgot, I actually have a spine and a brain and I know how to do my job, so maybe not. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiighttttttt. Suuure you would. Sooo, you're calling me a liar? Not that it matters a bunch, but on what exactly???

  13. I'm sure that Taman's a nice man, but I have never had sympathy for people who will take on a leadership role and then let someone else dictate to them. If you want to be the GM then be the GM. If the president tells you to do something and you disagree, you tell him to take a hike. Sure you might get fired but what sort of leader are you if you are simply warming a chair and letting some one else call the shots that should be your responsibility? The answer is: Brendan Taman
  14. And there we have the "It's not Brendan's fault. He was forced to do it". If you sit in the big chair, then whatever happens falls on you. Just doing a quick check shows that while GM of the Bombers (2004-2008), there were head coaching changes in 2005 and 2008. Since becoming GM of the Riders (2010), there have been three (probably four) head coaching changes, with the first two coming in 2011 and then again in 2012 and likely one coming in 2015.
  15. Even if the architect is telling the absolute truth, correct me if I'm wrong but the Grey Cup happens in November and in Manitoba, November is winter. So I guess he's assuming that there would never be a Grey Cup held in this stadium? Must be a Rider fan...
  16. Yes it's all a conspiracy, started by those evil Winnipeg reporters. It's only going to "galvanize" them. Right. And when they go 0-5, 0-6, and then 0-7 they will be so galvanized they will be statues. hate to say it but if we go 0-6 I hope we do go 0-7 then cc won't survive the bye week. Hate to have him sneak into bye week on a one game winning streak only to have Taman say "I think Corey is really turning things around" Taman's a survivor, always has been. If he starts to feel that he's in trouble, he'll drop CC in a heartbeat. And then, to continue the pattern, right after will come the "Taman's hands were tied. He was just doing what Corey wanted" stuff. As evidenced by all the people he fired to save his own ass here in Wpg?? Why yes, yes it is.
  17. Another interesting stat. In 2015, 100% of drives that ended in a touchdown, the scoring team was awarded a minimum of 6 points. Similar results were found when looking at data from 2014.
  18. "moo-ha-ha"? Dan West is the Laughing Cow?

  20. If we make the playoffs, O'Shea is safe and should be. If we miss the playoffs, then a lot will depend on why. What I don't want to see is the coaching roulette we're suffered through over that past decade or so. My only issue with O'Shea at this point is what I see as unyielding loyalty to specific players and the odd (sometimes very odd) coach. That can be corrected. Yes, he made a dumb mistake last game, but after listening to him post game, I'm reasonably sure that it's not going to happen again any time soon. The way I look at it is that I assume that being a head coach in the CFL is a challenging enough job that one year is not enough to say "ok, no more rookie mistakes". Unless things completely melt down over the remainder of the season, I would hope we would stay the course for at least one more year.
  21. Ok, when they award the "damn near won the Grey Cup" Cup then swagger away, but somehow, I don't think that's going to happen
  22. Nothing wrong with it if that is what entertains you. Lots wrong with it if it doesn't. For those who dislike it, it smacked of arrogance, with players who were more about themselves than the team, and spent time telling people how great they were because it wasn't evident enough on its own merit. And I get the whole "it ain't bragging if you can back it up" concept, but if you are that good, your play will speak for you, not your proclamations. They were good, but the West-Battle-Jones-Brown era never had to brag because everyone feared them on their reputation of performance alone, and no one needed to be told how good they were, because everyone knew it just by watching them. They didn't have to convince anyone (maybe themselves?) with hot air. Plus, that arrogance comes with a healthy dose of humble pie and comeuppance when you lose (like touting an interception you made when losing 35-0 in Edmonton, right Jovon?), and that comeuppance can attach itself beyond the players to the fanbase. To each their own, I guess. Neither approach is right or wrong objectively, just a personal preference about how you like your professional athletes to act. I'd prefer my team spend time in practice working on fine-tuning football drills rather than choreographing TD and sack dances. And yet they did back it up .. that defense single-handedly won games for this team. That defense single handedly kept us in games when TOP was heavily in the opposition's favour .. when our offense went 2 and out time and time again. . Comparing those guys to West .. Battle .. Jones (in terms of how they carried themselves) is comparing apples to oranges .. it was a different era of football .. but those guys also played with attitude .. and swagger. I have slowly come to realize that a great many people who disliked (resented?) "Swaggerville" are simply upset about how the team (the whole organization for that matter) simply imploded. These individuals are using a very visible, vocal part of those teams as a focal point for their disappointment. Others simply have an 'old school mindset' and cannot (will not?) recognize the changing times. I for one will never begrudge those guys their celebrations and antics when they were often on the field for 2/3 a game. As you say .. to each their own. When you are hoisting the Grey Cup over your head, you can swagger. Until then, let the scoreboard do the talking
  23. Being that the center acts as the "qb" for the O line, I'm not real surprised that they would go with a veteran over a guy that has almost 0 playing time. Goossen might get reps at guard at this stage, but not likely at center. Now, on the second or third play of the game when Neufeld goes down, then maybe he gets his big chance.
