  1. you obviously have no idea what sort of fans we have. The few?
  2. I do know that while we aren't quite there yet, you have to be blind to the fact that we seem to be moving in the right direction. For me it's a game by game thing. Some people seem to think that we were going to go from the bottom (last year) to the top this year instantly, without any growing pains whatsoever. We're 2-2 but it's like some people here think that anything short of 4-0 is a complete disaster. So before we march on the Bombers offices, take a breath, calm down and let's just wait a see for a bit, shall we?
  3. After watching the game I'm disappointed that we didn't win, but still, there is a lot to like about where we are right now. If this team continues to come together, we're in the hunt for certain.
  4. Not a huge fan of cheap shots, but I'm sure that there is some of that going on in the line a lot of the time. I can remember some of the stuff that went on when I played HS ball (dang, those leather helmets were stylish ). So if you play the line, you have to expect it and be willing to give a little bit of that back. It's the smart player that can do it and not get caught.
  5. Depth people, depth. It's a long season and we're barely into it. Let's maybe keep a few guys around, just in case. Ok?
  6. Well, the writers of that show clearly have been to Saskatchewan because they described it perfectly!
  7. Maybe I'm missing something here, but why in the world would Hervey have to prove anything. A contract was offered and accepted. If the player wants a 1+1 then the player should demand it and refuse to accept the offer on the table.
  8. Well in that case it could be "well he was close to the goal line and even kicked the corner marker over, probably good enough to call it in and review it to be sure" I just don't see how a lot of stuff like that isn't just called and left up to replay. It's just one way for the refs to be lazier. Maybe I'm being naive, but I find it very hard to believe that a pro level official would call something that he didn't see and go "Meh, If I'm wrong, they'll pick it up on the review." I would hope that if a ref was using the review as a crutch, it would soon become apparent and he'd be an ex-ref.
  9. Sucked, relatively speaking. We walk a fine line in this league. We need players to be good, but not too good.
  10. One thing to remember is that Lirim's struggles might affect his chances at a NFL look-see. Bad for him sadly, but potentially, good for us.
  11. And speaking of sucking, Mr Style seems to be sucking up big time to the last forum that will have him: http://www.riderfans.com/forum/showthread.php?130413-Deep-Thoughts-by-Luc-Mullinder "THere's always a core contingent of team supporters who will die by the sword for their team. Even if they get off to a 0-9 start - this type will just look at the back half and say 'hey, if we can take the last 9 by surprise, even if we lose one of them we could still make playoffs at 8-10 or 9-9, who knows?' Admirable but unrealistic. Having spent the bulk of my life in Winnipeg I can tell you from experience how difficult the last 25 years have been - and when the internet fan forums hit about 15 or 16 years ago how the opticons found unique ways to criticize negatrons vs. really focusing on their team and its woes. I got beat up and super-torched more than a few times for suggesting guys like Bauer, Kelly, Asper, Daley, Hodgkinson, Timid Taman, Burke, Slow-Talkin' Joe, Barfko, Reinbold & more were nothing more than highly paid inhalers of money. Losing teams usually hunker down (in their own way) and just try to extend the program. Its actually easier to hunker down and lose than put together a quality winning program that excites the fanbase. I've noticed at Riderfans the place is far more sophisticated (perhaps skewing a bit older) than bomber fan bases. Most criticisms are dealt with by counter-argument on unique sarcasm - but usually personal attacks are minimal - I suspect cuz most of those launching PA's (aka Personal Attacks) know they'll have their posting rights suspended (ie. banned) That's the beauty of quality fan sites. And riderfans is the best football site in the country - bar none."
  12. The Bombers win and the Riders lose. Yep, gonna be a good week!
  13. The Bombers found a way to win. Ultimately, that's all that matters and that's a sign of the team moving in the right direction. Better execution in the red zone and a stiffening of the defense (say to allowing fewer than 400 yards in a game), and we're pretty close to being there.
  14. Terrible a girl her age suffering a stroke...
  15. Oh please, Dunigan is more than a fan. I think he knows a thing or two about hits to the head and QB mental awareness with his background. I'd take his opinion with a little more salt over anyone here. Just a quick note on that particular idiom: generally, the more salt, the less you trust. So saying that you take his opinion with more salt means you trust his opinion less than others!
  16. I just hope they don'r steer Willy in the wrong direction.
  17. He's had 3 documented concussions in the CFL plus one in college. But the article I read suggested he's had many more. http://slam.canoe.com/Slam/Football/CFL/Winnipeg/2012/10/01/20247596.html This article from 2012 says anywhere from 2-6 concussions since College. 10 seems high. 4-6 is likely. May have had more or less depending what they consider a concussion. And in his playing days when they didn't really care much about them he could have had more! You would think with Buck being a coach for us now he would be one of the guys helping out in determining if Willy is A-OK to play. I think he may know a thing or 2....or 6 about these types of things I know that ever since I had my appendix out, I've been willing to consult with any doctor if they feel they need a second opinion. I'm still waiting for my first call because apparently they don't count that as "knowledge".
  18. If we assume that everyone is acting in good faith, then with the protocols as they now exist, the doctors have cleared Willy to play. I'm not real surprised that they found a doctor out there who disagrees with the way concussions are dealt with in pro sports, because clearly, there have been issues in the past. But nevertheless, the doctors cleared Willy and I would find it very hard to believe that if they had any doubts about his condition, they would do that, especially with all the attention that concussions and sport get now. Lastly, always remember that Willy has a responsibility to himself. Yes he's a pro athlete, but if he's got any concerns about his condition or their diagnosis, then he's the one who has to speak up. If he feels that he's being pressured into coming back too soon (and I'm not suggesting thats happened), if he doesn't speak up, he's made his choice. So it seems to me that everyone who should have a say in this has said that he's good to go. That's good enough for me.
  19. Throws three TDs after the INT and fails to perform in the clutch. Interesting.... The defense failed to perform in the clutch. How many high pressure games has he won? How many championship rings has he earned? All the stats in the world .. but can't come through when the chips are down. Depends what you mean by high pressure. He was one 5 playoff games and I remember him beating the Bombers in the final game of the 2009 season that secured 2nd spot in the East for Hamilton and eliminated Winnipeg from the playoffs. He has the same number of championship rings as Dieter Brock, Milt Stegall, Juron Bolden and Charles Roberts (who played a big role in the Bombers losing the 2006 East Semi-final and 2007 Grey Cup by the way). Glenn came through this weekend with 3 Tds after the INT. The defense did not come through when the chips were down. Honestly it's funny when I read any gameday threads with Kevin Glenn playing for team x over the last several years. Regardless of when he throws an INT - first, second, third or fourth quarter - he somehow fails to perform in the clutch and cost his team the game. When most other QBs throw an INT it is glossed over. Newsflash: Glenn has won games in which he has thrown an INT. I know it's hard to believe but he has. But never, it seems, the ones that matter most.
  20. It would appear that Tracy was indeed fined for his hit on Willy. http://cfl.ca/article/best-and-tracy-fined-for-week-2-incidents "Tracy had a responsibility to avoid lowering his head and hitting his opponent with it. Leading with your head, and using it as the main point of contact, is illegal. It is a dangerous and unnecessary maneuver that puts both the tackler and his opponent at serious risk of injury. It is standard we must uphold as we strive to protect player health and safety.” Glen Johnson, Vice-President of Officiating, added: “ Player safety is an important priority and there should have been a penalty on the play for unnecessary roughness.” I hereby stand corrected.
  21. I would agree. I don't think we've even gotten to the warm chair level yet.
  22. ok, cotton then. He's wondering which Smith you're referring to. I assume you mean Ryan Smith. Oh yea, like there'd be more than one guy named Smith....
