  1. You would think that when the big red circle pops up on him right before the snap that the D might key on him a bit.
  2. Who let Darren Cameron sign up in here...? Looked more Aardvarkian to me, but maybe you're right. As for me, colour me sceptical. Not for the first pick of course, that was pretty much a no brainer, With Demski gone and Durant's issues, I can maybe see why Richards got picked. As for Morgan, wth? Never heard of him and when you consider who was available at that pick, I just don't see it. Looks like a flyer to me and there was no need to take a flyer. As for the rest of the picks, they are at the "maybe they work out, maybe they don't" level of interest for me.
  3. Any draft that doesn't have Eric Tillman running around high fiving people is a good draft.
  4. We're on our third GM since Taman was here and I'd argue we are in worse shape now with regards to NIs than when Taman left. At least Taman left the team with 2 top end Canadian players on the roster, now we've got a bunch of servicable guys but no real Canadian stars. Not exactly fair because the team we have now also bears the effects of Kelly and Mack. It's pretty clear that Taman gives a lot less weight to the draft that most of the other GMs. It's also clear (to me at least) that he's not had the same sort of success at building teams at the Buonos, Popps and Hufnagels have enjoyed so I'm happy that thus far, Walters seems to be more of them and less of Taman.
  5. I think that the days of a guy being drafted and moving right into a starter's role are over. If a guy has that level of talent, he's NFL bound.
  6. Unless you're a quadruped, most are.
  7. And be sure to remind her of that old saying, "Good things come in very small packages." or something like that.
  8. Meh, just another impact Canadian starter, nothing to see here. Come on Walters, do something big to impress.
  9. Yeah! Thats him! Safety/WIL, I believe.....do you seriously not remember Graig Newman? Was a really huge deal that we picked him up last off season and was projecting to be our starting Safety (??) and was a fairly significant blow when he got hurt.... I do remember him and his importance, thats why I was asking. For some reason I have a hard time remembering his name. He came up in another thread months ago and I had to ask what his name was then too. Easy enough name. Just doesnt stick in my mind,. Too many chairshots. Being from Saskatchewan Newman's parents expected twins and had already chosen the names Gregg and Craig, when only one came out they had to compromise on his name. Poor kid. Being from Saskatchewan, there's a good chance that his parents were twins...
  10. Southern Football Academy?
  11. Actually, if you can hold off until late September or early October, I bet your accuracy goes way up!
  12. West: 1. Calgary 2. Edmonton 3. Winnipeg 4. Saskatchewan 5. BC East: 1. Hamilton 2. Montreal 3. Toronto 4. Ottawa I think it will be close between us and Saskatchewan, but I'm hoping that with our new and improved D (getting rid of Etch was a perfect example of addition by subtraction) and a more stable O line, we'll might actually win 2 of 3 against them.
  13. Interesting. Did I see you today at the reception? A glass of wine in your hand?
  14. No, Walters said this year's cap number isn't affected. He got $150k of his $250k salary upfront. That's the only difference. Which is awesome... Thanks for pointing that out. I stand corrected.
  15. So, it appears that Willy will be making 400k this year. Good on Walters for playing the small (and obvious to most) gamble of spending the dollars needed to make sure that we lock him up for the foreseeable future. I have to say that I was very nervous about his hiring, but as time continues, Walters seems to be doing the things that need to get done in order to finally turn this franchise around.
  16. He clearly didn't have the size to play guard. No wonder he's hurt all the time.
  17. And this, ladies and gentlemen is my nominee for the "The Glass IS Half Full Post-Of-The-Year" award, or as it is also known, The TBurger
  18. I hope this one's true. Gives Willy a chance to prove it or get cut if he's not worth the $400K. Which is, sort of... exactly what we were trying to tell you earlier. So are you now going to argue with yourself? That would be fun to watch! Actually you were telling me that it was worthwhile to pay Willie 400K this year, but don't let the facts get in the way. And it would have been, but don't let reality get in the way
  19. Maybe we can offer them Willy and our first round pick for Crompton. Seems like a can't miss trade to me.

  21. I think that in all fairness, you should probably write a strongly worded letter the the Chair of the Winnipeg Football Club. In it, you can outline your concerns and include your extensive CV which will demonstrate just how informed your opinion is. I'm confident that once they read the letter, they will give it the attention it deserves Lots of folks think whatever the Bombers do is right. I disagree with something the Bombers did. Not the first time. Won't be the last time. I still hope it works out. That being said, do you think that Willy's worth more than the rest of the young QB's in the league? Here's the thing, it doesn't really matter what I think. It's what the GM of the Bombers thinks. Personally, I think that this was the right move for a lot of reasons. Firstly, it tells Willy that the organization has confidence in him and believes that he can be the future for us. It also sends the rest of the team a message that the club is serious about getting things done and removing any possible distractions. It also says to everyone that the days of nickel and dime tactics are behind us. We'll pay the going freight, so if you perform, you'll get the coin. We call all those things "optics" and guess what? They matter.
  22. Then he'd tell a long story about the days of leather helmets and a time when people used to wear onions on their belt. Good for Willy and the bombers - I'm guessing base salary is more aroun $300-350 with incentives 1/4 of the cap is now tied up in QB and OL, Bob Wylie is full time... if there's a problem now, its on MB's schemes. Well, in fairness, it was the style at the time.

  24. The crux of the matter is... 'Is Willy a franchise QB'? If you think he is then you want to lock him down for as long as possible no matter the cost. If you think he's a JAQ (Just another QB) then you don't care if he's signed or not. If you're not sure (Me) then you want him to prove it before you give him the big bucks. Your argument would be valid if contracts were guaranteed, but seeing that they are not, the worst thing that happens is that we pay him top dollar for one year and if he doesn't pan out, we cut him. If he is the real deal, then we are getting exactly what we are paying for. So this is, in my opinion, a small gamble, compared to the potential big payoff.
