Bouncers call it "a handle"
-
Lol, Ya, and if the NFL decides that the "legal agreement" is no longer in effect? You really think the CFL has the financial muscle to take on the NFL???
-
No, not at all. One can always chose to ignore a contract because they believe it to be null and void. Whether or not it is actually null and void in law and if there is a will to enforce the contract is another matter altogether. In this case, I'd bet that thew CFL could sign AAF players because the likelihood of someone wanting to enforce the contract is low. At the same time, it sends out a signal that we will only honour contracts that we feel we choose to. That's a dangerous signal to put out there when we have an organization like the NFL which honours our contracts only because they choose to.
-
The contracts are void the minute that both parties say they are. Until then, either side can claim that the contract is still in effect and binding. That's why we have courts.
-
Mike, it's only different because the NFL says it is. They're willing to honour our contracts because having a stable "feeder" league is in their best interest. But don't doubt for a second that if they ever decided that they really don't need the CFL, our contracts wouldn't be worth the paper they are printed on.
-
The CFL ignores another league's legal contracts at its peril. The NFL could always decide that if the CFL can do it...
-
It might, but the last thing the players would want is to have the contract nullified. They're sure to get nothing then. You want to be able to say that this is a valid contract and I'm owed this money and that they breech is interfering with my ability to make money. Then the potential for a punitive award gets better. Of course, it's pretty hard to sue an entity that has zero assets once the creditors are paid, but hey, it's also not too smart to sign a contract with a fledgling league after all the other fledgling leagues have demonstrated that this doesn't work, but hey, roll the dice, take your chances.

The MBB All-time Blue Bomber Team: Tight Ends
WBBFanWest replied to TrueBlue4ever's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Well, in fairness, when you consider the role of tight end in the "modern" era, he's just a bit more important than the equipment manager. Having said that, I'm waiting for the poll on GOAT equipment manager so I can find out who the go to guy in the 1930's was! -
I just hope that we aren't hurt by guys waiting to see if they'll get picked up by that CFL killer, the AAF. Oh... wait...
-
It's almost seems that people like Ambrosie and others that actually do this stuff for a living have more information than us. Silly as that sounds.

So if you score a 6 point conversion to you then get to convert the conversion? I see hilarity ensuing...

Around the League: 2019 Off Season

You only get a second challenge if the first one is right. Jason will still have to make a decision about when and where he should throw it. Not too concerned by this -

His tweet may as well have been this: CFL News@CFL_News “I can’t even imagine what the second-best illness is in this country, because explosive diarrhea is so far ahead in first place.” - Derek Taylor #CFL #Riders via @robvanstone 12 2:33 PM - Mar 29, 2019 -

The great thing about radio is they can't see the tear rolling down your cheek as you say what you gotta say. -

Wow. It seems that there might not be an appetite in the States for what amounts to minor league football. Colour me surprised... or not.

Come on, you know full well that the "I know a guy who..." argument is king! -
Around the League: 2019 Off Season
WBBFanWest replied to SpeedFlex27's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
There will be people who want to go because they're NFL fans (God knows why, but whatever). If nothing else it might bring some people into the stadium who haven't been there before and you never know, maybe they'll come back for a Bomber game. Couple that with the potential of making a little money, and why not! -

If Raider Dave was coming, I'd go, but you just can't depend on him being there. -
I really appreciate the effort in trying to generate discussion during a long off season, but this is the reason that I didn't really participate that much in these polls. Most of the guys here were not even born during the days when some truly amazing players did their thing for the blue and gold so I get why they might pick Bryant over Rigney or Frank. You can't blame them for not knowing what they don't know, but for those of us that do, the suggestion that he's "better" than them or more deserving than them is truly laughable. At the same time, I've also been hesitant to speak up to much due to the fact that there are some more seasoned fans who seem to use this process to simply impress by naming every obscure Bomber player that they can regardless of the fact that most of those players would never, ever, make the list for "all time great". But if nothing else, these threads have generated a little bit of conversation through the winter, and for that, I'm grateful.

If it has the potential to hurt this league, of course CFL fans would want it to fail. As it is, it seems to be trending pretty much the same way of the other "pro" leagues that have come and gone, so I'm not too worried about it.
