  1. Of course, I could be wrong , but I would have to think that at this time of the year, the head coach would be the guy to say what sort of talent they need and whether a certain player would be someone they acquire. I just can't see a GM going out and pursuing a guy that the HC doesn't want.
  2. I can't speak for anyone else but for me, the issue has been the raising of expectations over the past couple of years. We really did seem like we were on an upwards trajectory and that finally, we'd be seeing this team put it all together. I still have hopes, but I think that it's fair to say that at this moment, the team is not where most of us expected them to be at this stage of the season. Yes, things have looked better these past few games, but I know that my confidence in the team is not what it was in June/July. At the same time, I'm really beginning to get the feeling that O'Shea is a good coach, but he's not quite good enough. I'm not sure he's the guy to get us to the next level, but the idea of tearing it all down just depresses me. Not as much as living in Regina would, of course, but depressing never the less. At the same time, I know that there are more than a few "fans" on this board who are clearly loving the current state of the team because it gives them the chance to come on here and rail about all the things that are wrong, and how they are just so darned clever that they could see how much this team sucks before anyone else did. There are some regular "downers" on the board, and one or two contrarians (ok, really, just one), but there are also a few posters that you don't often see here when things are going good, but boy howdy, do they love to post when things are going tough. To me, that's why it's getting harder and harder to come one here.
  3. Why? The board's not going to fire them.
  4. Thank you so much for including me in that group. I appreciate it!
  5. Ah yes, step 2 of the classic method. Complain that people are complaining about you complaining. Of course you can suggest it. By all means, go right ahead. And I assume that by "most folks" you mean you and a couple of others?
  6. Classic TBurgess post there. Might I suggest that to save time you just post something like this: "the usual" We'll know that it means...
  7. So... do have any kind words for Richie Hall, you know, the defensive coordinator that stole your car with your girlfriend in it and while leaving ran over your dog? That guy?
  8. The cost of IGF was reported as 210 million dollars. The annual Health budget for Manitoba in 2016 was 6.497 billion dollars. So that means that the cost of the stadium was less than three and a half percent of the overall health budget for ONE YEAR. Do you really think that the overall quality of health care in Manitoba would have been impacted in any meaningful way, even for that one year if all that money had been directed, one time to the health portfolio? Now factor in the benefit of having a stadium of that caliber available to those in Winnipeg and to those who might be considering Winnipeg as their home. If you don't want to make people think you are a second rate city, and attempt to attract your share of the best and brightest, you don't skimp on amenities like a quality stadium or a lack of entertainment options like pro sports. Sure it sounds superficial, but people often are.
  9. Sorry, not going to play the TBurgess game. Have a great day.
  10. Of course there is only one pot, but that is a gross oversimplification used by people who do not understand the complexities of "doing government" all all the competing forces at play.
  11. You do realize that budgets don't work that way right? Heath gets the money that is budgeted for health, infrastructure the money budgeted for infrastructure, etc. They don't say, "well we were going to do these transplants but lets take that money and give it to the Bombers for a stadium instead." If health needs more money for what it does, it presents it's arguments, just like every other department does. If people aren't getting the health care they need, it's not necessarily that the government isn't giving Health enough as much as it is that the Health agencies (the RHA's) are designating that money for other things, like lots and lots and lots of administration. That and the difficulty in providing care to people in a fairly big province that has a huge majority of it's people in one area. Means that the system will always be skewed to one group of people at the expense of everyone else.
  12. I figured I had at least a 33% chance of being right. I like those odds.
  13. You sir, are confused.
  14. I would like to congratulate the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. They are one of the very few professional sports teams in North American playing in a stadium paid for by their owners!
  15. Don't know if he is or isn't but he doesn't hire/fire coaches so...
  16. So.. that's good, right? Most people, when they discuss/debate things, are trying to "prove their own point". That's the objective.
  17. It's 12, just like in this picture, right?
  18. And don't forget this one:
  19. I'm impressed. Break dancing wasn't a thing then, much less synchronized break dancing!
  20. I believe it's spelled:
  21. It would be accurate to say that I respond to some of your comments. While I disagree with a lot of your posts, you don't act like a blatant troll, like the guy with the Kelly avatar, nor do you spew "old man yells at cloud" level silliness like the guy named after an old football. And occasionally, you actually make a good point! So I'm happy to put them on my "pay them no mind list" and just shake my head wearily at most of your stuff. 😏
  22. Let me remind you folks that the ignore function is a wonderful tool for improving the signal to noise ratio. I heartily endorse using it.
  23. This just in: Miller promises Grey Cup! I know that this is a bit of a fool's errand, but who better to ask. Is there a quote that you could point me to where he does this? I'm quite sure that Miller is not sitting iin his office say, "Thank God I don't have to do all that Championship parade planning, ring sizing and Grey Cup merchandising stuff."
  24. You really want to see this? I sure don't
  25. Firstly, being a coach or a coordinator will not be a good predictor of how someone will do as a GM because they are completely different skill sets. Secondly, Walters was a assistant GM to Mack. Now I realize that that is not much of a qualification, but at the very least, Walters got to see, up close, exactly how a crappy GM does his job, so at least he had "don't do this" training. I was skeptical when he was hired, but I think that he's doing a reasonably good job. We need better Americans and a bit more depth, but then again, most teams do. Lastly, in my experience, most GM's get to fire one HC before it's their turn, so he's still carrying his O'Shea meat shield. For now...
