  1. That's sort of how it always works. You have a commissioner, and he's the boss and head of the league. He's where the buck stops. Then you have senior VP's who focus on subsets of the "business". Does the commissioner have to be a former player? In my view, no, but he or she's got to be seen as someone with deep roots in the CFL game, and not just a "suit". Orridge was a "suit".
  2. A good commissioner, recognized as someone with "chops" by both owners, officials and fans, might not have any direct authority, but they can influence people, like the owners, to act in ways that will benefit the league. This is where, I think, Orridge failed and where someone like Pinball could really succeed. Let's face it, I never saw Orridge as someone who could sway people with the power of his personality or his recognized love of the CFL, but Pinball certainly can.
  3. from the last paragraph of the article: "With the window for CFL teams to interview front office personnel from other clubs closed, Edmonton would have needed permission from both the league and the Riders in order to speak to O’Day and will have to follow the same process should they wish to interview other candidates currently under contract."
  4. It's funny how some folks go through life being so cynical.
  5. We do not speak of that, ever.
  6. Unless of course, Hervey said that he was open to doing things differently, stalled them out and then thought "They won't fire me this close to the draft and the start of the season." and told them that he was going to stand his ground. If that's the case, they called his bluff. Or maybe, Hervey crossed some sort of line in dealing with the boss and Rhodes decided that he had no choice but to pull the trigger. Lots of reasons that they might feel that they had no choice. Or maybe they were idiotic. We really can't say.
  7. Yep Just a touch after 1am. Luckily, we had gotten a hotel room. We normally drive home after the game, which would have meant that we would have gotten home around 5 or so in the morning. Getting too old for all night events.
  8. Ummm, no. Just no. If Gray is NFL bound why in the world would you waste a first overall on him. Sure, maybe he'll flame out and come back to the CFL in a year or two, or five, or never. Just because, for a change, we don't have a critical O line need doesn't mean you throw the pick away on a maybe. If Gray isn't NFL bound, then that becomes a different story.
  9. Not sure that Sweep's argument can be described that way, but you should get points for trying.
  10. Why not have it all and go with Lofdon or Gorler?
  11. To quote from the story; "Saturday, April 1, 2017".
  12. I think that this is a great idea. I'm going to be taking advantage of it a couple times this year.
  13. JFG is "good enough". I'm hoping that we can move forward from good enough to some one who might just be a legitimate threat. Vandervoort might just be that guy. I'd love to see him crack the starting line up and move JFG or Richards into a backup role. There will still be good O or D line picks at 6.
  14. So, if I understand you, you're suggesting that A = D/F where D = distance and F = frequency Directly using the equation, y = A sin (ω t + ϕ) Thanks for clearing that up!
  15. Except that we seem to have a need at NI receiver. So if Walters thinks that Vandervoort is the best of the bunch and could fill our need now, he might just pick him. There will still be quality lineman at pick #6, but it's unlikely that Vandervoort will be. We shall see.
  16. It's been posted before, but in case you missed it: http://3downnation.com/2016/12/05/dariusz-bladek-becomes-canadian-and-top-ranked-cfl-prospect/
  17. Oh, so you're the one. Please feel free to use the restroom next time.
  18. Music is loud enough that those kids playing football can't hear me yelling at them to get of the lawn.
  19. Ummmm, you don't have unsigned players at camp. Sort of the whole point is to draft players, sign them and then they are part of the team.
  20. Personally I'm surprised that GBill has been overlooked yet again. I'm calling on the CFLHoF to award him the "Greatest scooper in the whole universe" award and then immediately retire that category.
  21. I suspect it's because if there is more than one bet, then there will be counting. Counting is hard.
  22. You know what? You should boycott this place for a year or two. That would really teach us a lesson.
  23. #Ridersblow would be good too.
