  1. To be fair, there is a theory among some managers in the CFL that it's better to trade draft picks for "proven veterans". Of course, those who espouse that technique are unemployed, but it's still a theory.
  2. Yes we did benefit from immigration, but at the same time, I'm pretty sure there's some sort of international treaty concerning cruel and unusual punishment that prohibits immigrants and refugees from being situated in Saskatchewan.
  3. I don't recall reading anywhere where the Bombers suggested that this wouldn't happen. And as for the experts believing what they did about Willy and Brohm, I'm willing to bet that every team in the league and every expert has done the same sort of thing. They fix it and move on, just like we did. But if all you every do is sign guys like Glenn, then that's all you're ever going to get. If you want to get yourself the next BLM or Reilly, he's likely not going to be any of those guys that are soon to be free agents.
  4. Sigh... the flatbilly troll returns. Come on admins, put him out of our misery, please?
  5. At one point, every single starter that has ever played in the CFL had neither won a game nor thrown more than 170 yards. The people who make their livelihood as coaches think he might just be ready to step up into the backup spot. Will there likely be a drop off if Nichols get hurt? Very likely. Would there be a drop off if Glenn was backup? Oh hell, yea. I'm not thinking that we've taken all that big a risk. Time will tell.
  6. Bringing in a bunch of quality people and letting them fight it out for starting spots. Sure beats the old "I guess we'll start Brock Ralph" days.
  7. Did the Riders do this? Likely. Can anyone prove it? Not likely. I'm assuming that this was on on behalf of the Riders by a "friend". So, most likely, there would be no one on the Riders payroll there, even if film of the workout did show up. Orridge probably knows that it likely happened but there is bo diddly squat he can do about it. Jones being Jones. Eventually, he'll outhink himself and end up running afoul of the rules (again). But next time, he's not going to just get a fine. He'll get a fine AND a stern look from the commissioner. That'll fix him.
  8. You can only draft the 1st overall, because he's the only "for sure" draft pick.
  9. I'm sorry but your argument makes absolutely no sense. If we are drafting someone 1st overall, it's because he's our first choice. We want him, period. So that being the case, if you can sign him to a contract before officially drafting him, you've secured the guy that you really want. Now, you've eliminated all the drama. Also, if you're seeing a lot of resistance, it gives you the opportunity to reassess and maybe move on to your #2 choice. I really can't see any reason that you wouldn't sign them if you could. By the way, how exactly are you thinking you'll see them in a training camp without having them under contract? We ain't the Riders.
  10. I know that there are a lot of folks in Winnipeg that do the cottage thing, but I have to say, scheduling games on a Thursday night is giving us that have to drive for hours to get to Winnipeg the big ol middle finger. I was at the Hamilton game last year and if we hadn't booked a hotel room (which adds a fair bit of expense) we would have gotten home at about 5ish in the morning. Makes going to work Friday morning a bit of a challenge for an old guy like me. Having said that I do realize that the focus of the organization has, and always will be inside the perimeter. It's how it works in this province.
  11. This sort of goes to the heart of my argument, which is that offence has the clear advantage. That being the case, the winner of the coin flip gets handed that advantage. Is that advantage insurmountable? No, but again, it could easily be rectified by a OT format such as ours. Ultimately though, I find watching NFL football about as interesting as watching paint dry, so a change in how they do OT matters little to me. I just think that how the NFL does this is dumb.
  12. Umm, if you have an equal chance (or better) to win by playing D, why would you want the ball. You're arguing against yourself.
  13. My point still stands. There is a clear advantage to starting with the ball. One can debate just how great, but you and I would both want the ball to start OT given the fact that if we score a td, it's over. Therefore the coin flip is critical. Does it "determine" the winner? No, but if no one wants to lose the coin toss, there is inherent bias that could easily be corrected.
  14. IMHO you're one of the good ones Ripper. I'm thinking that either: you weren't originally from Saskatchewan or somehow, your family tree doesn't loop back?
  15. Not that I care all that much about the NFL, but you seem to suggest that because the defense CAN score a td, the idea that possession isn't all that critical. Let me ask you a question then. In the NFL in 2016, how many offensive TD's were scored versus defensive? Once you've answered that one ask yourself this: given what you've just learned, would you want to be offence for the first series in OT?
  16. $, Atomic, when it comes to stuff like this, it's always about the $.
  17. It's hard to understand why people are trying to justify the NFL style OT because any format that gives a coin flip that much importance is dumb. Personally, I think the reason that they do this is because they do not want a protracted OT. It would unduly screw up the network TV schedule too much. Ultimately, it's always about the $$.
  18. Which would make a huge amount of sense, if this was in fact a baseball game.
  19. Hey Rich, just between you and me, you kicked iHeart, didn't you. Just deny it if you did
  20. Cut him some slack. It's wouldn't be the off season without the obligatory "I want Donnie O back" post. Now that that's out of the way, it's on to free agency and the draft!
  21. Yes, as far as you know, that's exactly what happened.
  22. If it's an experienced and successful QB that they're looking for, maybe we could see about trading them Kenny Ploen's rights.
  23. Oh yea, like you need a reason...
