I'd say that's pretty much the text book definition of "dumping". And I'm shocked that a guy that was essentially a first round pick in 2015 is not already a starter because every other 2015 1st rounder is, right BlueandGold?

Nothing to do with changing a pick. It's about the if-then-else stuff. Pick one person and only one. You can always change your mind prior to the first kickoff

Game Day Thread: vs Montreal Alouettes -- Friday, June 24th
WBBFanWest replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Here's a post that really didn't need to see the the light of day, but all things considered, I'm not surprised the "submit" button got pressed. -
Personally, I think that you really should have to make a choice. None of this "I'll take this guy unless..." stuff. Pick your guy and live with your choice.

Do we have a group? Never mind...

I'm hoping that we're finally at the point that when we release someone it's because we have someone better. So that would mean that resigning someone we've released would be a step backward. I want to move forward.
-
So what exactly would you have done? Keep a kicker that wasn't very good for the sake of his passport? LH wasn't able to perform. We ended up getting one of the best kickers ever to replace him. Too bad he's US born but it is what it is. At the same time we're hanging onto a kid that shows some promise. Nice to have him as a backup, or more likely, trade bait.

Around The League Off Season Discussion
WBBFanWest replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
No worries mate. I might not like the Riders but most of us here get the idea of tradition. You have yours, we have ours. ANd sorry to hear about your dad. May light perpetual shine about him. -
Actually, I don't have to get used to it because I rarely read their tripe anymore. This guy is just one more example of why that is. And if this is the level of knowledge and research that these "poor saps" believe to be acceptable, all the more reason that they should be worried for their jobs. And by the way, as far as I know, we're allowed to discuss things here, are we not?

I think that the issue is how one defines pocket passer. I'm going with the definition that says that a pocket passer is anyone who tends to drop back and throw from the pocket, but will run occasionally. You seem to be defining a drop back passer as the football throwing machine.

If Willy was asked "What aren't you scoring more points?" he'd have every right to be mad. Fortunately, most people are smart enough not to ask such a dumb question because they realize that the QB is not solely responsible for doing that. If he's asked "What did the team not score more points?" that's fair ball. Willey was asked the question in such a way that it was clear that the sack, all of them, were on the o-line. Coming from a fan that would be just be yet another dumb question. Coming from a sports reporter, it demonstrates a total lack of understanding of how a TEAM sport works, from a guy who's then going to go away and write about something that he clearly knows nothing about. If he had just turned to one of the Bombers staff and said, "Get this pinhead out of here." I would have applauded because any professional reporter displaying that level of ignorance deserves nothing better.
-
When everyone is disagreeing with you, there are two possibilities: You are right and all of them are wrong They are right and you are wrong I know which way I'm leaning on this one.
-
I may be wrong, but just because a guy will occasionally run, is not what defines him as a pocket passer vs a roll out/scrambler. IMO none of those guys (AC, RR, KG) is known as a guy that "made things happen" with their legs type QB. They were "they'll run if there's a huge opening or for their life" guys. Just like Willy.
-
No it's not a reasonable question for the simple reason that the reporter asked the o-line coach. The implication is: These sacks are your responsibility, so what are you going to do about it? It displays sheer ignorance and nothing more. Asking the OC or the HC the same question would acknowledge that this might not be an "o-line only" problem, but when Willey is forced to answer that question he has to walk a fine line between defending his guys and throwing others under a bus, and that's not fair to him. He's paid to teach o-linemen not educate "sports writers" on the basic fundamentals of a team sport. That's why it was not only an unreasonable question, it was a very dumb question.
-
Because if you're going to be a professional sports writer, it might really be helpful to know a little something about the sport you're going to cover. That way, you'll actually be able to ask questions that will, hopefully, generate insightful answers. If I want to see what the average fan thinks, I can tune into the Coach's show on OB and be amazed at the sheer ignorance of people. I expect a little more from people that expect me to pay for their musings.
-
Anthony Calvillio - drop back Ricky Ray - drop back Kevin Glenn - drop back I don't think you can make a blanket statement like "pocket passers need more time". It really depends on the offensive system and the peculiarities of the QB in question. Willy needs to release faster, but it has nothing to do with him being a "natural pocket passer".
-
Or, we could actually expect our media people to be a little more knowledgeable about the stuff they're reporting on than the average fan.

fyp.

Wouldn't you rather SEE how the O-line is improving, instead of having a coach try and explain why they will be? Talk, as they say, is cheap.
-
To me. the question was framed in such a way that he was fishing for the response the Wiley gave him. Makes it more compelling and more compelling is good. Much better than asking in a dry, boring way that produces facts only. No fun and no drama in that.
-
You're not that reporter, are you?

Actually, it is a free country, but I think that you're mistaken about what that actually means. This is a private forum and each of us is here because Rich allows it. He can rescind that privilege for any user, at any time and for any reason. Here's hoping...

Hey, no worries. Feel free to use whatever pronoun you want, just do it on Esksfans and let us Bomber fans talk in peace.

A couple of things to point out. Burris has more experience that anyone else in the league, so the fact that he's able to get up to speed quickly should not be surprising. Also, I recall seeing Burris playing right through the season last year, not finishing his season in August. I know that's the case because I can remember Burris whining that people were being so mean every time someone hit him. Willy though, finished his season in August, so there's a lot more rust to shake off. Again, I recognize that the O didn't look like world beaters yesterday, but it's early, too early to start the hand wringing stuff. Because you know what? Burke is right, the pre-season is all about evaluation so let's just see what we'll see once the bodies start flying for real.
