Glen Johnson upset fans, media are so hard on refs
WBBFanWest replied to Mike's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I'll never fault a referee who makes a split second mistake. Did he catch or trap the ball? Was his foot inbounds or was it touching the line? Those calls, made in real time, were being made in good faith and so much would depend on the position of the ref and player that no thinking fan would expect every call to be made correctly. That's just not possible. But calls like the one that went against us last year against Calgary, when that official called illegal formation, those are the type that really hurt their credibility because there's no way that a professional ref should ever get a call that wrong. Especially given that after the fact, the best we'll get is a "we made a whoopsie, sorry about that". In my opinion, they really need to hold themselves more accountable. That ref should have been named, and the consequences made public. Not to humiliate him, but to say "There are consequences for incompetence". Then there should be an explanation made as to how mistakes like that might be prevented in the future. It's called being accountable and professional. You want more respect? Start by showing that you're serious about being the best you can be, not whining about how unfair it is to have to do you job right. -
Can't imagine why that would be...

I haven't seen anyone saying that any of these guys are being penciled in as starters. And simple logic says that Waggoner, with a year under his belt will be a lot closer that most of the "new guys".

Royal Blue uniforms are officially back!!

Hey Mike, is there a link to these teasers? Can't seem to find them. Thanks! -
When they name the university after him, you know he's gotta be good!

I hope we would never become the "official" site. TEP was ok, but they seemed to have some unwritten rules about certain posters. If you were one of those, you could pretty much say anything you wanted and those who disagreed and had the audacity to say so got censored. I find the moderation here to be much more even handed and for the most part, the best posters on TEP are here too (with the exception of GBill, the greatest poster of the last two millennia), so those of us that lurk here don't miss out. So thanks everyone, I enjoy the info and the discourse.

That may be, but I'm betting his replacement was.

Maybe the decision wasn't made until after they saw him and some of his potential replacements at the mini-camp. Sort of dumb to cut someone when you don't have a replacement yet. We've been down that road before.

Thank you so much for taking the time and giving us your observations. Better than anything I've seen in the media. -
May light perpetual shine upon him. Condolences to his family and friends.

League approves 10 of 11 rule proposals
WBBFanWest replied to LeBird's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
If anyone in the league has voiced a concern about this, I am not aware of it. If a fan muses that it might be a good idea, that's fair and we can discuss it, but as I see it, being that no one in the league appears to be concerned about the placement of the goal posts, then any proposed "fix" is literally a solution looking for a problem. -

What you say may be true, but factor in that both teams can take advantage of this and I really don't see the issue here at all. We've played with the post there for a lot of years and I don't recall anyone in the league ever bemoaning that fact.. Like I said, this whole thing smacks of a solution looking for a problem. Compare the impact of a pole being on the goal line with what our game would look like if we moved them to the back line and I think that I'd rather have the problem of a pick any day. -

Last post on this because this is silly. You clearly don't recognize just how difficult and potentially dangerous it would be to even consider something like this. I'm not trying to insult, but the idea that you think that someone could possibly do something like this is laughable. Two 20 foot high poles suspended from a 18.5 foot wide crossbeam mounted on a 10 foot pole has to be made of something substantial if it it was moveable. Do you realize the force of wind on a structure like that? How difficult it would be to move something that big by hand? You don't seem to have any concept of the forces at play here or the potential for disaster if something like that ever toppled over. Please, go talk to an engineer and ask him what he thinks about the idea. Make sure that you mention the dimensions and the idea that it has to be portable and pose little to no danger to players, staff or spectators. Good luck. -

8-10 people likely could set it up, but not in a few seconds, so now we're looking at a 5 minute "goal post set up" delay. And of course, there's no danger in a structure like that falling over and crushing someone on the field. No risk at all. What you have here, in my opinion, is a solution in search of a problem, so maybe, let it go. -

You do realize that the uprights stand 30 high and would weigh over 1000lbs. You don't just "haul out" something like that. Seriously, whatever it is that people are smoking today, I need me some of that. -

Please, for the love of all that is holy, please tell me that you're just joking. Actually, now that I think of it, you could give them an option. 3 points for a stationary field goal, 5 points if it's moving. Make that a suggestion to the Rules Committee and the wait for the rule changes announcement next year. This idea and black lined footballs, the new and improved CFL! -

I don't really think that you've thought this through. It's not simply moving the goal posts back. It's the fact that field goals beyond the 20-25 yard lines would be a thing if the past. It would reduce the chances of that last minute drive down the field to get into field goal range. Now you need to get to the 40 (ish). With your proposal, you'd pretty much have to get into the red zone. Those 20 yards are not just an "adjustment", they would, as I said earlier, fundamentally change our game. If the gaol posts came into play a lot, you might have an argument, a weak one sure, but an argument. As it stands, the only reason I see for you wanting this is "because the NFL does it". Well, if that's the reason, I have an simple suggestion. Go watch the NFL. -

How does that fix the issue of field goals, which is the main issue that we've mentioned? -

Ever notice those guys in the striped shirts? They're non player obstacles too, in the field and they move. Seriously, how many times a year to the goal posts, the crossbar or the post come into play? Not too many in my recollection. How many times do refs get run over or force a player to move around them? A lot more, I think. If the players can adjust to the refs, I'm betting they can manage the other without too much difficulty. -

Considering the depth of an NFL end zone vs a CFL end zone, moving our goal posts to the back would fundamentally change the game. Not a good plan in my opinion. -
