Jets vs Oilers Heritage Classic
Ducky replied to The Unknown Poster's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
I saw a interview with Gretzky where he said Lukowich's play was a huge factor in the final Avco Cup where the Jets beat the Oilers. Kyte wasn't unconscious in that fight. Fergie's worst draft choice. 12th overall! I love the lineup...didn't know who Ford was either but I remember the rest. -
If Little Wheeler Laine Scheif Perrault Ehlers Connor Lowry Copp Mathias Dano Lemieux and Armia were our starting forwards, would there be room to complain much? Matthias, Copp, Dano and Armia take turns in the PB and there will be injuries. I wonder if the Jets didn't like what they saw from their youngsters killing penalties last year and went and signed Matthias almost solely for that purpose? That and the expansion draft. Wheeler, Little, Matthias and Perreault are the veteran presence, Scheif and Lowry aren't newbies any more and even Ehlers, Copp, Armia and Dano have some experience. The rookies would be Lemieux, Laine, and Connor......I don't know of any teams that would turn down Connor and Laine as rookies. It would be nice to see Morrissey step up at TC and make the team on merit. Enstrom, Morrissey and Trouba are a not bad left hand side. It'd be nice to pick up an expansion exempt LHD man from someone like the Ducks for one of our young expansion exempt forwards. Armia/Petan/Dano/Copp/Lemieux for a solid LHD prospect that is about ready for the NHL. Dano for Theodore or something like that...maybe add a 3rd rounder?

Not sure where to put this but the future is in the heading so... I am bored so I was looking at some of the Jets upcoming seasons and how the salary will move/change. Chevy is a shrewd GM and I like how he has the team built and on a low overall salary. That will change but not just yet. The Jets have 7.713m coming off of the books in 2017-2018 with Thorbs, Strait, Postma, Staf and Peluso all UFAs that probably won't be re-signed. Here is a list of our RFAs that year and what their AAV is for their current contract. Burmi 1.55 Copp .925 Dano .925 Tanev .874 Chiarot .850 Kosmo .720 Helle .668 Kichton .600 Olsen .616 Helle should get a nice raise and you would hope Tanev and Copp and Dano and even Burmi will earn a bit of a raise but if there are no other changes, our overall salary might actually drop. The following season has the following as RFAs and some will get healthy raises. Ehlers Armia Lowry Morrissey Petan Kostalek Phillips Lodge Comrie Mechiori and Blomqvist . But we have Hutch Mathias Enstrom Stuart and Little as UFAs so I don't see the overall salary taking a large jump at all if any. Little should get a raise if he is re-signed but any of the others will sign for less if they are re-signed. Chevy has planned things very well. The following year he will be tested. UFAs are Wheeler and Myers and the RFAs are Connor, Laine, Roslovic, Lemieux, Nogier and De Leo. It will take big bucks to keep Wheeler, and Myers while giving Laine, Connor, Lemieux and Roslovic raises. I am guessing the cap will be higher by then though. Chevy is doing an outstanding job with the overall salary and talent. sidenotes...we are at about 64.411m and let's say for sake of argument that Trouba gets 5.6m per year. That puts us at 70m but actually under because that 64.411m is with too many contract accounted for so let's say 68m for an overall salary. Not too shabby and leaves room in case of injury or if he wants to go after a highly paid player or whatever.....Lipon hasn't signed yet and has probably seen the writing on the wall so I guess he is holding out for more AHL money...the Moose should have some really good players this year.

You're dreaming if you think Kaner will only get you a 3rd rounder....he'll never get what Chevy got for him but he will get more than a 3rd rounder... Trouba and others will be insured to play at the World Cup of Hockey. http://www.tsn.ca/rfas-to-be-insured-at-world-cup-of-hockey-1.537567

Vancouver will probably give up more than that.
-
My opinion too. Why not lock him in for at least 5 or 6 years? I guess the arbitrator's forthcoming decision had something to do with it.
-
5.5m per year and only one year of free agency I think. Overpaid if you ask me.
-
The Colorado Avalanche beat an NHL arbitrator to the punch by signing defenceman Tyson Barrie to a four-year, $22 million contract Sunday. Sorry if this has been posted already.
-
Because Dano, Armia, Copp, Burmi and probably Petan starts on their team this year and the Habs are in a win now mode.
-
Does it matter if it were a ref? If it were a player, would that make it okay? He should be gone for 60 games minimum. Before you ask, yes I have had a concussion before.
-
I really can't see him playing another game for the Sabres to be honest.
-
He would never show up for practices if he were playing in Vegas!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd send him to the Canes but that's me. Turned out to be quite the arsehole though.

Bogo and Myers are pretty equal. Neither can stay healthy. Bogo gives you a rougher game than Myers but Myers probably has more offense. Myers probably worth a bit more than Bogo. Kane for Stafford, Armia, Lemieux and Roslovic. Staf helped us get into the playoffs the season of the trade and potted 21 goals for us last year. I would move him because he doesn't fit the team's need...my opinion. Armia has played well defensively but hasn't been consistent offensively at all. He needs to have a good camp and I would love to see him play on the 3rd line with MP and Connor. His contract is more or less show me what you got now is your chance. He won't clear waivers so I expect to see him start with the Jets. Has a high ceiling but time is running out. Lemieux was praised by Maurice last year and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him make the team but I think the numbers game keeps him down on the farm for half a season or so. Will be playing on the team next season for sure but probably a 3rd liner at best. Roslovic... Future #2C? He can play RW as well but he really impressed in early July and earned his first contract. It wouldn't surprise me if he gets assigned to the Moose but I think he goes to London of the OHL. He will definitely play in the NHL one day but I am uncertain of where to peg him in the lineup or even what position he will play. Kaner...old school hockey player that gives you his all on the ice. Talented scorer and is still only 25 years old on Tuesday. Excellent skater but not much in the play-making department. He'd pot 40+ on a line with Sid...His off-ice behavior is another thing and has brought his value down so low that I don't think Buffalo would trade him for what is probably being offered. All indications point to him not getting much better than what he is right now and that is 25 or so per season goals...nothing to sneeze at but I don't think many teams would touch him with a ten foot pole except maybe Vancouver. Depending on how Armia, Lemieux and Roslovic turn out will decide if this is a fleecing I guess. We for sure didn't lose this one though. Kudos to Chevy again for getting rid of a cancer and really helping to shore up our depth.
-
We have an abundance of forwards and they are both expansion exempt LHD? Why not? Which would you not trade for Juulsen?
-
I'd like to see the Jets trade for Juulsen or Jacob Larsson but not sure what I would give up. Maybe one of Armia, Dano, Copp, Burmi or Petan for Juulsen but not as much for Larsson. Pavs for either though...
-
That wohld leaveTrouba eligibls for arbitratkon. I would I would much rather see him signed to a long-term deal.
-
Laine Scheif Ehlers Connor Little Wheeler Petan Perreault Armia Mathias Lowry Dano Scary good lines and they can and will be changed up. MP can go in and out of the top 6 and not lose a step. Maurice has already said ESW will start but Ehlers will probably eventually play on the right side. Connor Scheif Ehlers would be nice to watch after Connor gets adapted to the long seasons and big bodies. I don't think he will have a problem with the quickness of the game and he reportedly has a high hockey IQ. The lines I would like to see by ASG... Laine Little Wheeler (the two vets and the young gun will be scary good) Connor Scheif Ehlers (speed and skill to burn) Lemieux Perreault Armia (toughness with playmaking and defensively responsible) Matthias/Burmi Lowry/Copp Dano (two in pressbox) high energy line that should get 10 minutes a game...rookies in bold. Morrissey Buff Enstrom Trouba ? Myers hopefully Chevy has picked up a QUALITY 3rd pairing LHD or an adequate 2nd pairing LHD...Send Stu down to the Moose to mentor and one day coach. Chiarot in pressbox and Postma traded or with Moose or lost on waivers. Helle Comrie

Potvin was a rookie in 73-74. I remember Orr winning the Calder Cup. There really should be a trophy named after Orr.

A "jets insider of sorts", what, pray tell, does that mean?
-
Um, what is the big deal with him and Scheif hitting UFA at the same time instead of a year apart.....not much difference if you can plan ahead?
-
http://www.winnipegsun.com/2016/07/26/fun-with-numbers-sun-hockey-writer-ken-wiebe-looks-at-possible-winnipeg-jets-line-combinations Weibe is WAY more out to lunch than any of us on here... Tanev Lowry Howden as a 4th line and Connor, Dano, Burmi, Copp and Petan don't start? What a joke.
-
He is a UFA after 4 more years for one reason. If you re-sign him for say, two years and he plays lights out... A. He demands BIG money and you end up paying way more had he signed long term to begin with. B. He files for salary arbitration and you only have him for two more years after the two year deal. I would hold out until he re-signed for a minimum of 7 years but I would pay a bit more and get him under contract for as long as we can (8 years).
-
I wouldn't sign him to less than A5 year deal but would rather see him signed to an eight-year deal something like 8 years for 46 million
