Ducky reacted to sweep the leg in Fighting In Hockey
Fighting is disappearing without having to legislate it out. NHL player safety isn't perfect by any means, but stiffer penalties for cheap/dirty plays are finally starting to clean up the game. The game is getting faster and the one dimensional fighter can't keep up anymore.
I like to watch a good fight. I think planned fights between two guys who can barely skate are nonsense, but fights that happen naturally between two guys in the heat of the moment are entertaining and not a detriment to the game. These are grown men making a conscious decision to fight. If they're fine with it, so am I. They know the risks.
I think fighting needs to be taken out of junior hockey though. Any league with players under 18 shouldn't allow it. Fights will probably happen regardless of the rules put in place, but the penalties should be stiffened to make it a less desirable decision to make.

Bobby held his own in that debate against Lawless and brought up some good points.......
I am happy with the amount/lack? of fighting in the game right now and there are bigger issues like consistent calling and larger penalties for hits to the head.

NHL goalie Ondrej Pavelec has a problem with drugs and alcohol, though so far he's managed to complete his games standing up. His luck runs out when a disastrous flu sends his team hurtling toward the bottom of the league's standings. Pavelec pulls off a miraculous end-of-season comeback that results in an career best goals against average. Shaken to the core, Ondrej vows to get sober -- but when a urine test exposes his addiction, he finds himself in an even worse situation.
Game time Tuesday @ 7PM.

Ducky reacted to Goalie in Game 72 : Ducks @ Left Behind
Thought besides his goal... he struggled. Especially in his own zone. He'd make a nice pass one shift but the next... look lost. I think he was just ok. Not good. Not bad. But more bad than good that's for sure. Could be Chiarot isn't good either tho.
Chiarot is just lazy or dumb at times.... stuck in own zone for several minutes... finally chance to clear . Chiarot takes tthe puck and ices it when if he just took a couple more strides he's at center ice. Thorburn does thar lots 2 tho so who knows.
Thought the penalties the jets took were weak and thought the Anaheim D man blatantly held Scheif preventing a jets scoring chance. Few moments later... Ducks score the winner

If not for Makarov winning, Mike Modano would have won it.
Seems unfair really. Good thing they changed the rule.

It might seem that way. But having the best odds of winning something should always be the preferred option.

I think we have to get rid of one of Pavelec or Hutch next season. I don't want to see Hutch sent down.
Assuming Hellebuyck is up with the Jets next year, that leaves Comrie and Olkinuora (current in the ECHL) with the Moose. We also have Jamie Phillips who has really come on strong in the NCAA this year. 13th in the NCAA with a GAA of 1.97 and 27th with a save percentage of .922. Good enough IMO to at least get consideration for the backup job with the Moose.
With what Hutch has shown over the last 2 seasons, I don't think he is much more than an NHL backup. Even if he is sent to the Moose next year, I can't see him being the starter and taking development time from Comrie. And I'd much rather see the backup job go to Olkinuora or Phillips.
If you trade Pavelec then sign Hutch for a 1 - 2 year deal until Comrie is ready to come up (even if the second year Hutch ends up playing for the Moose). Or if no one wants to bite on Pavelec, trade Hutch for whatever you can get as I don't think he should be taking playing time away from the other development goalies.
My preference would be to trade Pavelec, even if we have to retain some salary.

He was, but that probably had more to do with the NHL's hatred of the WHA. The AHL is a professional league, so by the same argument a player shouldn't be considered a rookie if they played there. There is an age restriction where the player has to be 26 or younger at the start of the season. That came as a result of Sergei Makarov, if anyone remembers him. He was part of the old Soviet Union's famous KLM line in the 1980's and played internationally against the best players in the world for years. Calgary was able to get him in 1990 when he was 31, and since he hadn't played in the NHL he was considered a rookie despite everything he did in the 1980's. He won the Calder and everyone thought it was ridiculous that he was considered a rookie, and after that the NHL instituted the age restriction.

So we get the fifth or sixth pick. Instead of second or third. Why would I cheer for a win? The Jets need to throw their fans a bone. As in a lotto pick.

This just leaked from a somewhat shady website that describes exactly how the drafting of players will go down if the Las Vegas area gets an NHL expansion team.

First time I've put on the Ladd jersey since he was traded.
Jets season is done. Gonna show appreciation for what he did for this team and city.

Natural hat trick for Connor in the 2nd period. 3 goals in 8 minutes and 21 seconds. He's gonna be fun to watch next year.

Regardless of Chidago's pick. I think it is important to lose to night and make sure we finish as low as possible in the standings to give us the best odds on a high pick.

Here is what the CBA says...
11.8
Individually Negotiated Limitations on Player Movement.
(a)
The SPC of any Player who is a Group 3 Unrestricted Free Agent under Article
10.1(a) may contain a no-Trade or a no-move clause. SPCs containing a no-Trade or a no-move
clause may be entered into prior to the time that the Player is a Group 3 Unrestricted Free Agent
so long as the SPC containing the no-Trade or no-move clause extends through and does not
become effective until the time that the Player qualifies for Group 3 Unrestricted Free Agency.
If the Player is Traded or claimed on Waivers prior to the no-Trade or no-move clause taking
effect, the clause does not bind the acquiring Club. An acquiring Club may agree to continue to
be bound by the no-Trade or no-move clause, which agreement shall be evidenced in writing to
the Player, Central Registry and the NHLPA, in accordance with Exhibit 3 hereof.

How can the Oilers be so bad for so long? Getting the very first round pick for multiple years & they still can't win. Now the NHL GMs want to bring in a rule so shitty teams like the Oilers who never seem to improve can't keep stockpiling the first pick in the Draft every year. Connor McDavid has shown flashes of brilliance this year & has had injury issues but one thing is clear & it was discussed last season. McDavid, Hall & all the other high draft pick studs on that team have no idea of what it takes to win in the NHL. Instead, McDavid is learning how to lose in Edmonton.

Pav is driving the tank. I wouldn't let Hutch play another minute until we have last place clinched.
Scheif's line was really good. So was Buff.
