Chevy has a lot of work in front of him many of these moves before the deadline will impact this team for years to come

I dknt get caught up in coaching too much because Maurice ain't going anywhere no matter what.  I would like to know some of his decision making though. It seems a lot of coaches revert to what their used to or what used to work when there is adversity such as this team used to always go right back to LLW
was Ehlers playing poorly, perhaps coach punishing him by taking him off that line.
i could also see a veteran coaching saying millionaire pro athletes need to self motivate and be prepared.
Everyone on that team knows it's over. What do they have to play for? Pride. Some lack in that area.

This isn't as bad as I thought we'd be but it's good. High draft pick here we come. The Jets aren't finishing higher than 3rd last....possibly dead last depending on CBJ.

What a homestead! Great tanking Jets ... but 4-0 is a bit too obvious. Try a bit harder  ...

Do you really believe that?  You need to understand that Frolik didn't want to be here and Frolik or Stempniak or whatever guy people wanna throw out from last year who isn't here this year doesn't make this team go from tied for 2nd last to a playoff spot. The team has bigger issues. Jets were rumored to have actually offered Frolik more money than Calgary did. He didn't want to be here. Hey. Look we are tied with Calgary for 2nd last. He's sure helping them isn't he?

    What a class act...
Vancouver Canuck All-Star winger gave his share of the all-star game winnings $91,000 US to the Canuck training staff to share..

I agree tjay Buff relies on smarts a lot which is something he shouldn't lose. Smarts and vision. But his fitness is fair game.  He seems certainly very fit at his size rigt now but it gets a lot harder to stay fit as you age. It won't be that he loses the knowledge of where to be but loses the ability to get there.
But if he signs for six years and gives us four elite years and one average year and one bad year it's still worth it

True enough, should be a few of them available.
I think the Jets sign Buff to a 6 year contract, contrary to popular belief.
I also think it will be for north of 7m per year.
I think they trade Ladd before the TD.
I wouldn't trade Staf, he has been good for us and can play on any of the top 3 lines. If I'm trading Staf, it would be at the TD in 2017.
MP should be re-signed the second he is able to.

I was just pointing out that most team that are in the playoffs, have a plus in the goal differential.
The Jets have 15 empty net goals against and not sure how many they have scored. Their plus/minus is -16. You're right though, those empty net goals don't matter at all. With or without them, we aren't making the playoffs. Edmonton has McDavid back and I am betting they pass the Jets in the final standings. I also see Calgary and possibly TO passing them as well. The Jets have an absolutely horrible schedule starting March 1st and I see them slipping down (up?) to 3rd place in the tank with only the CBJ and Sabres finishing below them. A pretty good chance at first overall. A top 6 of Matthews, Wheeler, Armia, Scheif, Connor and Ehlers would look nice in a couple of years.

Jets need guys who want to be here. Hamonic is another.... wants to be here. You need to get and keep those guys who want to be here. Sign Buff. Trade for Hamonic.

Not really. Dub is just average, he's come back to reality again. Minnesota is in trouble, just like a few of the central teams in a few years time.

In the NHL, it's not simply a matter of spending to the limit every year especially when you have such a mixture of young-uns and big names about to be free agents. The Jets, from when they started, and up to this point, have to have had a huge budgeted-up form chart and a long term franchise plan with projections balancing the obvious with the unexpected.
Its taken a while for the Jets to get to this point and, believe or not, the team is trending upwards. For those who thought a Stanley Cup run was imminent, you're way ahead of yourselves. Even a playoff run was a question mark when so many new players and question marks existed on this team.
It's not a matter of being frugal, but rather following your long term plan. They'll reach big time spending soon enough.
TUP said it right, they do have it figured out, and are following their team chart.

So what would you have had them do?  Not use those players and instead replace them with veterans that cost more, and in some cases not as good just because spending more money looks like they are trying harder?
Yes, they could have signed Stemp and Tlusty.  No, those two players werent making the difference this year.  Every one of the aforementioned rookies, with the exception of Petan, needs NHL time to continue to develop.
My point is, this season as a low salary season is an anomaly created by a series of previous long term contracts and a ton of ELC contracts still on the books.  If the Jets dont bring in a single new player next season, their salary expenses increase considerably.  So why is this year an example of the Jets not trying, but next year isnt, with the exact same players?  Its a matter of circumstance, not malicious cheapness.
If we end up with a top 3 draft pick, then we will be pretty happy how it all worked out.

27 days till the deadline so things should start to pick up if and when Buff signs, that should put everything in motion.

If the jets aren't comfrotable with Hutch as backup they can always bring someone in cheap with experience next year.

Yes, in this case it is.  He's a hard working player at a minimal cost.  Not the end of the world to lose him, but would rather keep him.  He will clear though.

Dollars and sense wise, this would pretty much be a wash for the Jets for the rest of the season.  Pavelec makes $4.25M this season and $4.75M next season ($3.9M cap hit).    Hiller makes $4.5M
It would be nice to get Pavelec off the books for next year.     No way Calgary trades their 1st for Pavelec, especially with where they are sitting in the standings.  Could you get a 2nd or 3rd?
Could you then flip Hiller to a playoff team who might need a decent backup, especially if you retain some salary?

I would guess that Ladd and Chevy are at a stand stilll because they have drawn their lines in the sand and neither will budge. I would guess money is the reason but what do we know? Chevy will play this to the wire if need be. His past negotiations prove this.

From what i see he is ready to sign a pro contract, is he ready to play in the NHL, that is yet to be determined but he'll probably help the Moose.

I think he did alright with the Good & Bad but the Ugly is a reach.  No one ever won the cup signing Stemp and Tlusty.  its just a myth that the Jets failed by not keeping those guys.  I thin they gambled that the youth movement would allow them to make the playoffs again (or be close enough that Chevy could bring in some help at the deadline) but I also dont think the fact it didnt work out that way is a huge surprise.  I think Jets management is able to separate emotion from this and realise competing every year is better than blowing our wad this year.
And you cant grade Chevy on the Ladd & Buff situation until it's resolved.  Period.
