Reilly had a bad game. You can blame it on the team around him all you want but Nichols never got that benefit of the doubt. Throwing for 325 yards on 40 throws is not that impressive. Especially when 1/3 came off misplays by the DBs and broken coverage on 2 throws

Defend against action by the league

The league is technically required to protect the safety of the players. They hire the refs, enforce the rules, and hand out penalties. It is just a strange optic conflict of interest when the PA defends the offender.
