Is the Schoen to Ottawa narrative still intact with the D Rhymes signing? If they pay up to get Schoen as well probably a good receiver or two shake free from Ottawa in the process. We don't need to have Schoen in order to remain viable. I would argue that Streveler is more important because we can't risk a situation where the season is over if Zach gets hurt by going with a bargain-bin backup qb like Prukop. I would sooner have Streveler/Acklin then Prukop/Schoen.

Just not interested enough to offer anything higher than a 5th round pick? Or is it just a case that only Ottawa was willing to offer a guaranteed return whereas other teams were not convinced they'd be able to sign him. The advantage Ottawa has is Masoli will likely not be ready for the start of the season and isn't guaranteed the starting job. That's gotta be appealing to Brown. He's got a legit shot to start in week 1 and if he performs well they may very well relegate Masoli to backup.
-
Seems like there wasn't considerable interest in Brown. Ottawa basically willing to give up a 5th in order to get their QB situation sorted out ahead of free-agency. Winnipeg took what they could get. Does anyone know who the team teams are that had the most Canadian snaps last year? Those two teams get an extra 2nd round pick.

Personally, id rather have Streveler than Scheon. Assuming Brown is moving onto a situation where he can compete to start we are left without a backup QB. You aren't going to recruit a backup qb who can immediately help you in that role. Streveler can fill that role and also adds a huge element to our regular offense. With the XFL/USFL reducing jobs by 50% and now having a few years of vets there's going to be a lot more young talent available and we should be able to recruit some receivers. Personally, I would move Lawler back to the slot where he is more prolific. Obviously, i want all of our guys back plus Streveler. Will be interesting to see how it all pans out. Im awfully interested to see how he would do running the entire offense. His passing skills did progress in the NFL over the coarse of his time there and it would be interesting to see if that improvement would translate to the CFL.

I agree with the sentiment that there are some readily available american runningbacks who could get the job done for us behind our offensive line. And with the XFL/USFL merger, there's going to be more opportunity to recruit rookies this season. Have said that i think the priority is Brady. He's a Canadian, a local product and he IMO has intangibles that are valuable to the team. No American runningback is going to care about the community as much as Brady nor will they understand to the same degree what it means to the fans to win. I see Brady as someone will can will this team to championships and can be a positive infectious force in the locker room helping young americans to be motivated by more than just a shot to look good and get into the NFL. Have said that we can't break the bank for him. He deserves a raise but not to be the highest paid non QB on the roster.

The best situation for Brown might be to sign a one-year deal in either Hamilton or Calgary and hedge his bets that both teams will look at other options than their starter at some point in the upcoming season.

With the team perpetually in win-now mode and assuming Dru Brown signs elsewhere would it make sense for us to trade for Tre Ford? He would instantly answer our questions surrounding QB depth and being a Canadian on his entry-level deal it would free up cap space even versus what Brown was making last season. With his mobility, we also wouldn't really need to dress a 3rd string qb so you end up essentially with two DI's elsewhere as a result of this move. I think Edmonton would be open to trading him but might cost a 1st round pick. Tre Ford was kind of insulted last year by not being given a chance sooner. Now he is insulted again after playing so well to come into camp as the backup. No way do I see him returning to Edmonton after this season when his contract expires. So why not trade him for some value now?

Call it what you want … you need to move on from Collaros

Mostly agree with Noeller. If you're rating him amongst the CFL's greatest based on his career stats then you are over rating the guy. Id rather have a qb who was great for 10 years and then another qb who was great for another 10 years then one qb who was good for 20. He's basically Vernon Adams if he would stay healthy and play a long time as his current level of play. -

Wish i knew more. I just looked at the draft rankings. If Harrison isn't in the draft then i think Panthers would trade their pick. -

Didn't the Panthers just draft a franchise qb. They will likely draft Marvin Harrison Jr and the Pats barring a win in their last two games would have the #2 pick. -

Didn't realize we were that close to the end. Probably has more to do about next year then. Getting him immersed now and then next season he could potentially be apart of their qb equation. Can't imagine they won't use their first round pick to draft a franchise qb. I believe the Patriots were one of the teams that worked him out originally. But by the looks of it they might be moving on from Belichick so that could also impact things for Rourke. -

Im not convinced that he's not a crest above the CFL stars we've had in the past. Keep in mind that he did what he did his second year out of college. -

Wait i thought i was just hopelessly cheerleading a no talent hack. The way the Patriots season is going this is a decent opportunity for Nathan. They Patriots are in a race to the bottom and I could see them giving him some playing time to evaluate him in otherwise meaningless games for the team. So he'll have his chance to make an impression hopefully. -

I'm not cheerleading him and I'm not dogging him either. Can you say the same? BTW. The NFL trade deadline has already passed. -

If the money is close he's going to prefer to be in the NFL. All it takes is a couple of injuries and he's in a position to lead a pretty good NFL team and if he performs he will end up a a large payday. -

There was also the issue of lacking depth and having to move guys around when Houston got hurt and later playing Houston at less than 100%. -

It was mostly a defensive thing and not turning the ball over. The game he had in the Grey Cup was above any game he had during the regular season or in the playoff game. Call it what you want to call it. -

He won the Grey Cup. He had a good game and the bombers secondary played a horrible game. Doesn't erase the fact that he threw 14 td's and 12 interceptions all season and he's never thrown more than 18 touchdown passes in a single season. He's stop gap qb for a team until that team gets a bonafide starter. -

I think MBT is a significantly better passer. He almost threw for 5000 yards his last year in the CFL with the argos. -

Colin Unger replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Its laughable that Fajardo claims to be taking less money to help the team remain competitive. He's talking like if he's Bo Levi Mitchell in his prime. I doubt there's a team in the league outside of Montreal who would pay him starters money. And you certainly can't pay a guy like that for more than what he is. You're going to need to build an allstar team around him for that offense to be league average. Credit to him for playing the best game of his career when it mattered most. I feel the team is being emotional but dedicating to him when they could probably attract a better option like MBT. But he did win a Grey Cup as their starting quarterback so its more of a reward for that than it is a wise decision for the team.
