2022/2023 Off-Season (League/Non-Bombers-specific News)
Colin Unger replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Im trying to figure out how we have money for Lawler. We should have still traded a 6th round global pick for him at the deadline just so we could offer him guaranteed money on the 3rd year. -

It's like the league is having a Montreal dispersal draft and every team traded all the picks to the Riders. -

This is what i was getting at. You're affected by your view of Ambrosie. And im not a fan of him either. He's a bit of a beta. But that's a separate issue from the subject of whether the league would fold Montreal or float them for a while and find a new owner. -

Herb has made a lot of predictions over the years. The cost of losing Montreal is immense as it is written into the TV deal with TSN that the league would lose a significant amount of the revenue if it loses either Montreal or Toronto. I believe it would be more costly to lose that revenue then prop of Montreal for a while while they search for a new owner. Plus they are adding new revenue likely around 4-5 million a year from the US TV deal. Any think of the lost money when the league has to pay Winnipeg to move to the East Division again. -

Do we have clarity as to when Schoen's nfl window closes? I keep hearing that it is Feb 9 but I believe Tait said the same day as CFL free agency starts. -

I guess BC is looking at running a offense designed for a dual threat QB and Dom Davis is someone who could continue a gameplan designed for their starter should he get injured. -

I just don't see the league folding the team. They could more then cover the losses with the new money coming from the US TV deal while they search for a new owner. They aren't going to let this team fold when the fanbase is there and league revenues are growing to a point where a team like this under good ownership can break even or post a profit. -

Do you read what I write before responding. I said they are doing reasonably well with bad ownership. All they need is good ownership. What are you going on about? Correct. The problem they had this time around is the man with the money passed away and that changed everything. It seems as though they've found reasonable ownership in Edmonton and bc. It should be easier right now to find a good owner for Montreal coming off a moderarly successfull season. -

They average 17,683 last season despite gongshow ownership. This team isn't on the verge of folding. They just need solid ownernship. It all depends on whether he chooses to stay in Winnipeg. There are bad teams who have to overpay to get talent like the Riders and the Redblacks. There's a team out there that will pay him quite a bit of money. But he'll have no expectation of playoff money and might get used and abused like Lawler did. -

No chance that the Alouettes are on the verge of folding. They won't have too much trouble finding a new owner at this point. The team is in a much better position now then the last time they were for sale. Attendance is up and league revenues are way up with gambling revenue extra TV revenue coming from the upcoming US TV deal. Lets not let our hatred for Ambrosie cloud our judgement. Thankfully the problem isn't with the business opportunity but rather with ownership. The team clearly works if it has solid ownership. That can happen with an older player playing for a dumpster fire team. If i was him Id try and play for a team that's competitive. -

Ultimately i think that Eli will be an upgrade over Couture. We lost a lot of grit and nastiness when we lost Desjarlais and Eli. Eli will bring at least some of that back and I think it will be very welcome. Can't wait for Dobsen to be part of the starting group as well. Sounds like the riders are dumping some overpaid players so they can overpay for different players to appease the fan base. -

BC or Calgary might be a good spot for him to take a backup job. I still think that the riders will be in on him as their starter. #2 feeds into #1. -

Its worth a try but I don't see Couture being interested in signing there so the Riders might not be willing to take any risk on a trade like that. -

I don't think what he did was so inexcusable either. It wasn't written in the contract ahead of time that he would need to be vaccinated. It was something that kind of just got added in on the fly I guess due to the travel restrictions. He wasn't a starter so it didn't hurt the team. He then opted to sit out while he was not under contract and now he's back. I wish the fully vaxxinated offensive line we had in last year's Grey Cup did a better job of protecting Zach. If he can help the team I'm glad he's back. There are plenty worse things players have done in the past then opt not to inject something in their body. How does Eli's unwillingness to inject compare to Andrew Harris' over eagerness to inject things costing the team two games with him? -

I think so too. I was speculating today with a friend that Couture might be on the way out due to salary. Now with this it seems like a no brainer that they aren't going to try and bid against BC again. Let him go. We are retaining a lot of talent and I would like to think that we will free up some money somewhere to make a big splash at receiver this offseason. We used to sign murderers to play Center. -

That's a pretty big addition to a crowded offensive line. Wonder how that impacts who we decide to bring back. -

Im hoping he does enough in the next couple of games if he gets a chance to be considered a backup next season to White. I think Zach Wilson will be traded and they will get rid of Flacco. Might actually be a potential landing spot for Nathan Rourke. Wouldn't it be interesting if Rourke ended up competing with Streveler for a backup job in the NFL? I doubt that he comes back to Winnipeg when he's done in the NFL. With the progress he's made in the passing department I think there will be a team in the CFL or XFL that offers him starting money. -

I never said he couldn't understand that plays. Just that it was obvious that he was mostly providing value by being a tremendous motivator and his players loved playing for him and wanted to do well for him. I'd love to know if Allen tried coaching right after his career was finished. On Wikipedia he has no coaching credits at any level. It's now been 15 years since he played. And it's harder now to hire him as a qb coach with the coaching cap. He should coach in the ncaa somewhere or a high-school team to gain some experience as an offensive coordinator or rb/wr coach. -

The situation with Pinball was a bit different than the norm. He wasn't coaching to teach the X's and O's and scheme. He had a lot of clout with the players and is a tremendous motivator.
