Around the League: 2019 Off Season
Colin Unger replied to SpeedFlex27's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Stamps have lost offensive lineman Brad Erdos for the season with a patella tendon tear. -
Guess we are going out to be starting 3 Canadians on the offensive line.

Whatever happened to rookie camp stud Matt Hazel?
-
Don't see that lasting unless we pick up Chris Ackie.
-
So you’re saying our corners were struggling? This is what I don’t like about training camp.
-
I’m not going to just take a player reps word for it. Unions know how to unify the players a get them to stop thinking about their own finances. Whether the league actually pulled a fast one or whether this was just a language issue as a result of rushing through negotiations at the last minute we probably will never know. However, I’m glad the players held strong and the owners held strong. Without that we probably wouldn’t have a deal yet and with all the changes to rosters due to the global stuff and the import veteran perk it was essential to get these things sorted out before the season started.
-
Well imagine a scenario though where we are starting Jake Thomas and he comes out of the game with a minor injury and Drake Nevis goes in. How eager will Bombers coaching staff be to re-insert Thomas back into the game?
-
The imports who qualify won't be the issue.. Its whether or not the Canadian starter is actually injured that's gonna be a problem. There's already issues where teams will fake injuries to get the bombers out of their hurry up offense. Now you can fake an injury to get another american starter.
-
Doesn't really surprise me. This seems like a rule that is destined to be taken advantage of by crafty teams. How exactly they plan to prevent teams from having a Canadian player go down to an "injury" when they aren't really injured is going to be key. How badly injured to they need to be? I would think that at the very least when an import vet comes in for an injured Canadian that player should not be allowed to re-enter the game and needs to miss the next game at the very least.

They probably realized that Richards was a waste of a pick and needed to add more beef. -
It looks that way. I imagine it will be as a precaution for the rest of his career. Honestly considering how he hurt it the only time he should take it off is to shower.

Well.. Nichols and Streveler were not participating but they were kind of loosening up. I noticed that Matty Ice was still wearing a knee brace.
-
Lets hope any cuts this point forward come from players being beat out by somebody better.

Every team in the CFL every offseason has a list similar to this. Calgary's is much worse. You're always going to have turnover if you're a good team in the CFL. The teams in the CFL that get good and remain good do so because the upgrades they get from year to year come through drafting, American scouting, and development. There was a lot of bellyaching last year when the team lost Jamaal Westerman and TJ Heath. The defense ended up being vastly better and not just because of Adam Bighill. Sayles ended up being an upgrade over Heath and Alexander took huge steps forward making the secondary a lot better than it had been previously. If in fact Walters didn't build the team he had last year by complete fluke there's no reason to think that this team won't continue to move forward. There are plenty of candidates to be improvements over what we had last season beyond Jefferson and Matthews who are both massive upgrades at key positions. If Nichols gets back to his 2017 this team is much better. The passing game will likely be better even if he doesn't because Matthews is a big upgrade and the Canadian trio all have an additional year under their belts.

And what's to stop the bombers from just dressing an injured Canadian defensive back who's injured as their starting safety and immediately removing him for Fenner? -

The more details we get the more details we need. For example.. Would we be able to use Foketi as an import and Hardrick as our DI. Start Hardrick as our tackle and then if we get an injury to a canadian guard put Foketi in at guard? Or would Foketi have to play tackle and Hardrick moves to guard? Fenner has gotta love this rule. If Jones goes down he can replace him at safety. Also.. A guy like Flanders (if we still had him) could come in for Harris when he's hurt. All Harris needs to do when he needs a drive off is ride the bike a bit and get trainers to look at him. Seams like an easy rule to skirt. -
He sounds like a real great pickup.. Would have been a crime not to have drafted him. Now imagine where this team's Canadian talent would be at if Loeffer, Chung, and Goosen were all back here.
-
No no. Just saying that if he goes through some prolonged rough patches again like last year I think Streveler will get a chance to takeover this season and he could potentially never give the job back. I believe Nichols contract is coming up after this year and if Streveler shows really well this season I could see Winnipeg moving on if Nichols wants big bucks like some of these other qbs have got.
-
I think we keep developing Bennet. He’s experienced now and there are things that could happen this season which could lead to Streveler being the starter next year and if that happens I want a 2nd string qb who’s experienced.
