Simonise/Peterson could get a look ahead of a rookie American receiver. I also don't believe Chris Ackie has a job yet.

Around the League: 2019 Off Season

It’s a good move. Bartel was a horrible punter and Ryan if he’s similar to the past will help. Could add an extra 40 yards or so per game. 100k is well worth it if he’s still good. -

The amount the riders gonna be punting they should get their money's worth out of Ryan! -
Let’s hope the qbs show up. The strike isn’t supposed to begin until Saturday. It would be good for the team if they showed up. Otherwise buck might need to throw a few passes to show the rookies what’s up .

Any idea how much health insurance would cost each cfl team for the American players? -

What you're talking about here is how the cap is distributed on two specific teams. We are not talking about teams going over the cap to sign these qbs. Not sure how this is relevant to do debate of what the salary cap should be set at. There isn't a huge amount of unspent money available right now. I would like to see the option of having guaranteed contracts for players who have a number of years of experience in the league and are playing for the team that brought them into the league. Something that would encourage players to stay with the team that brought them into the league and also force GM's to honor more contracts. It would really cut down on the lack of continuity and teams blowing up their rosters each offseason. -

Yeah the reason for that is that even with the revenue from the TV deal with what players are currently being paid most teams are still barely breaking even or losing money. I guess what players want is that teams tighten up in other areas in order to pay the players more money. Not sure what those areas would be though. -
Wouldn't be surprised if Eli ends up on the injured list too.
-
I preferred the previous Washington receiver we had who had basically the same attributes.
-
I'm still high on Charles Nelson as a slotback. He could really offer some headaches for teams who have to deal with Matthews at wideout and Adams as slot.

The real battle might be who ends up on the dev roster, practice roster, and hidden on the injured list.

From that perspective it is somewhat irresponsible. I would like to see some form of guarenteed contracts implemented to keep this from happening. In the competitive world of pro sports teams and players will make decisions that they feel will benefit themselves so long as these decisions are within the confines of the rules. -

I don’t see how they can substantially raise the cap with revenues not having increased. The negotiations probably had more to do with the players locking in a desirable percentage of future new profits. -

I don’t see it as being irresponsible. Each team budgets differently and paying a an that amount of money just means less money for other positions. -
Charles Nelson beats out Lucky for kick return job.

I'll take that.. Gives us time to evaluate our young receivers and another potential add at mid season if things don't go well with one of the younger guys. -
Just a guess. But I think he comes in with a lower salary than Walker and Ellington. Maybe 180k. Could be wrong though.

When you get cut by the Cardinals without even making it to training camp and I that would be a good indicator that it’s time to make a long term commitment to the CFL. Personally for our offense I lean towards Matthews being the best fit due to his size and physicality. I have no regrets. -

Would be nice but I don’t think we will sign him. We kind of box ourselves in to starting 3 American receivers if we do. They did a lot of scouting and have signed a lot of receivers. I think they want to leave something up to training camp to decide in that area. -
Im looking forward to it as well. The writing i think is on the wall for guys like Couture and Speller. If they don't earn starting jobs with the team this year they won't be starters with this club. By next season there will be more picks coming in and Gray and Desjarlais will be hitting their strides.
-
Would be nice if we hit a real home run with the Eli pick. If he pans out I like the long term future of him at center and Gray and Desjarlais as the guards.

Neufeld

I see him starting as a returner and being used as a gimmick guy early on with the long term potential to become more of a receiver. Similar to Brandon Banks if everything works out to the high end of his potential.

If we don’t find any defensive backs we can always play Jefferson at corner.
