  1. Lucky him... Gets a paycut in exchange for a non-guaranteed extension of term
  2. I greatly prefer the stupid penalties that Westerman would take.
  3. Makes sense why they would want a guy like Franklin to come in and back up for a year and learn the offense before becoming the starter.
  4. I think that the main reason Dressler was getting hurt is we were relying on him as being that guy who catches a 7 yard catch and turns it into a first down . Running sweeps with him ect. With two talented bigger guys being added to our receiving core I think we can use Dressler in a different way which would help him to stay healthy. With injuries there were times where Dressler seemed to be the only reliable receiver we had out there outside of Harris. Both of those guys were taking on a lot of physicality. We need to shelter both of them a bit more this season.
  5. If we can keep him healthy Dressler is still a 1000 yard type guy. When you give some of the rough stuff he had to do to Demski and Bowman I think he's going to have a great year. He'll have a huge role.
  6. Based on what Walters said in his press conference it sounds like Fenner will play SAM and Leggett will play one of the halfback positions. He said that SAM was definitely Fenner's best position. I wonder if they believe that Leggett will have a better chance to stay healthy if he's further away from the line of scrimmage? Also.. Both Lefrance will be learning the hybrid runninback/receiver position and Demski will have an opportunity there as well. After Westerman moved on they signed LeFrance because they may not have the luxary to play an american at runningback. If this team needs to shed salary I wonder if Flanders is a possible trade target? Maybe to Toronto??
  7. https://globalnews.ca/news/4028561/edmotonton-eskimos-john-white/ I seriously thought John White had signed in Montreal
  8. The only problem will be that there will be several teams interested and I don't know that we have the cap space. Depending on what the Riders do this could drive down the price of Woods and Tank Reed.
  9. Plus an extra Canadian starter would be a great insurance policy allowing us to replace with americans at receiver or offensive line should injuries occur.
  10. Queue the pr BS - "Never wanted to leave Winnipeg"! At this point i'd love to have him back.
  11. Wow.. Can't believe he's still being paid that much.
  12. I believe Zach reworked his deal.
  13. This reminds me of how people fought in world world 2. They would battle it out during the day and then call a timeout so everyone could sleep and then wake up and do it all over again.
  14. As a player on the field his age isn't a big issue.. It's just that injuries can start to happen more frequently as players age.
  15. They still gave up fewer passing yards than we did and led the league in pass knockdowns.
  16. Is it safe to assume Montreal was the team which was rebuffed despite offering 30k more for Fenner?
  17. Perhaps they did. Dressler was already on a lower salary. We have a team filled with guys who want to be here and took less than top dollar to stay here. It would be really hard for any of these guys to accept giving Westerman 200k when there's very few teams in this league willing to do so. He left because his desire for top dollar outweighed his desire to continue playing here. Ditto for Heath. So you move on and replace them. We got a different Canadian starter in Demski who wants to be here for much less and we have two top shelf american rush ends. I don't see this being any kind of an issue. When you look at the amount of talent this team has from top to bottom it hasn't come from paying athletes absolute top dollar. If you want top dollar you can go and play for the black hole that is the Montreal Alouettes. The thing about the CFL is that we don't know what many of the players are making. However, I can only imagine that we have players who are making more money than they did last year and the worthy additions of Bowman and Durant didn't come for free.
  18. You're making assumptions that other players didn't get any raises. You can be that Winnipeg is viewing it the cost with Westerman in the cap and the cost without Westerman in the cap. 200k is a lot of money for an aging player who had a season ending injury last season. Signing him would have cost more than both Fogg and Clarke above rookies and Clarke and Fogg give the team much needed depth. There's also the opportunity that not all the veteran DB's we have under contract will make the team. Perhaps if you take Gaitor, Clark, and Fogg they will battle it out and only two of them make the team.
  19. Westerman wants 200k per year though.. That's what 140k above a replacement level player. So when you have guys that make like 140k that's 70k above replacement level. So for one 200k player you need to replace two guys making 140k with league minimum players.
  20. But who are you willing to subtract in order to pay for that easing? Fenner and Bowman?
  21. The only problem is that this assumed Chung and Goosen will be healthy all year. We definitely need to draft another offensive lineman in the first round IMO.
  22. If things don't work out on the offensive line we can still look at starting Corney/Faith on the defensive line. But i don't think it will come to that as I have faith in Couture if Nuefeld gets injured.
  23. We will probably cut our major penalties in half without Westerman. I like Jackson Jeffcoat.
  24. On what planet? I was expecting we had to pay a lot more.
  25. Nice.. Good price for such a talent. I would imagine Heath wanted a lot more for doing a lot less.
