Blue Bombers - 2024 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
Colin Unger replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
In this week's PFF article the bombers are ranked #9 in the league in offensive line play. Dobsen now also has a rating for the season below average joining our other two non-import starters. Bryant is the only offensive lineman on the team to have a better than league average pass blocking score. -
If we're going to get better it will have to be from the combination of trades and also brining up some young talent to offset some of the losses.. Its been pretty frustrating to watch a team that is supposed to be a draft and develop team never let their young players play. How can we win without taking advantage of entry level deals.

We can only dream. That's way to logical for this team to consider. -
Even healthy I think its relatively close. Ottawa is pretty stacked.

Very pleased with the Garbutt is practicing. Based on track record this organization will only very sparingly hold onto a non vet who gets injured in camp. I know very little about this guy but they must be pretty high on him. -
Im not convinced Ottawa is such a crappy team or situation. They also made themselves attractive to a young QB. I think their offensive group rivals and probably surpasses ours even when we are healthy.
-
I don't think this is a salary cap issue. Its about a qb who doesn't want to wait until he's on the wrong side of 30 to get a starting opportunity.
-
I think that we didn't have that option. He wasn't going to give up a chance to start now on a team with a better offensive line and arguable a deeper receiving core. Why would he wait around making less money and not playing in Winnipeg. I'm aware he's currently a starter. But i would still view it as the battle of Zack's former and current backup especially so early into Brown's starting career. You never know he could end up being the football version of Eric Comrie and come back here one day if defensive starts squeezing those juicy pick balls. Id love to see what mood we would be in right now if Calgary had dropped just one Chris Streveler pick ball.

By agreeing to not bring back Dru Brown (who experienced 3 dropped interceptions yesterday) I'm assuming that you mean they agreed to bring back Zach instead of Dru Brown and we aren't living in a dream world where bringing Brown back as a backup was on the table. Part of me is hoping that Zach can't go next week so we can witness The Battle Of The Backups on Friday! Will be an interesting storyline.

We are essentially in a rebuild already with all the injuries. That's one of the reasons I don't really want to see Lucky Whitehead brought in. Let's use this to find talent that's going to pay off next season. A veteran here or there that we can sign off of the scrap heap isn't going to be the difference between turning this season or not. The play of our young recruits will. If two of our rookie receivers take steps forward and we've got Lucky Whitehead and Kenny Lawler in the line do we really bench a rookie in favor of Lucky a guy who's not going to be here next season when Scheon is healthy?

Bombers were winning when the injury occured. Its hard to judge how the game would have gone without the injury. They fell behind i think mostly because of how horrible Streveler looked in the 3rd quarter. In hindsight it was probably him being too ampt or rust ect. Then in the 4th quarter it was probably the best quarter of quarterback play we've got this season. He showed actual potential as a drop back passer IMO.

Hamilton dropped like 3 easy interceptions. He only looks good right now because of Hamilton's ineptitude. -

Im assuming you mean that Thomas, Bighill and Alexander will be back? Can’t imagine we’re complaining about Bryant and Jefferson who have been the teams best players in their respective groups. ——-/////// At least we won’t be facing Trevor Harris on labor day or banjo bowl. We need to get at least a couple wins before then for it to matter. -

They're between a rock and a hard place here. Now that we're 0 and 4 they feel like we have to get desperate. Personally it would have been better to wait and have more money to spend on NFL cuts like potentially Mack. But if they don't start winning games now no NFL cut is going to want to sign with a team that has a limit chance of making the playoffs. Im not even sure if Lucky has anything to add to a CFL team at this stage. Im only ok with this if he was given at or near rookie money and no gaurentee of starting. I agree with you here. Kramdi is not an example of bad Canadian talent. The issue on this team isn't Canadain talent it more our lack of young American talent. We started 10 Canadians yesterday. I wouldn't want to lose his youtube content. -

What do you mean by "The same show"? I don't think any changes would be made to the coaching staff or the quarterback position. But certainly there would be a lot of player movement. -

Not impressed if we are spending money on Lucky Whitehead but i guess we are desperate at this point. I thoughtJosh Johnson and Wilson got activated in the 4th quarter. Not sure why we are signing him.. Can he rush the passer or block? -

Im not sure that Cody's running ability has historically been enough to overcome a mediocre offensive line. I would imagine with Zach's superior passing ability the Montreal offensive line would like just fine. -

It remains to be seen how different the offensive line looks when they Bombers have a healthy BO in there for a full game pounding the rock. I think that the pass block could be a lot better when teams are focused again on shutting down BO. -

My only explanation outside of favouritism that Tui isn't starting right now is that he's not 100% and they are leaving him in a limited role so his injury doesn't get worse. -

The data from Pro Football Focus seems to backup the sentiment about Loften. Despite giving up that sack on the first passing play of the game he was out top ranked offensive lineman last week. We don't know his actual grade but he was the only one not to make the list of lineman with failing grades among our starters. In limited action Tui was elite! Highlighted in red are the lineman who have a season average below 60 which is a failing grade. This pretty much all lines up with the general evaluation from those of us on the message board. 8. WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS (NO CHANGE) LT Stanley Bryant LG Liam Dobson C Chris Kolankowski RG Patrick Neufeld RT Eric Lofton • Despite teams' struggles above them, the Blue Bombers failed to climb the rankings. Four of their five starters failed to make a positive impact last week, with Bryant (58.5), Dobson (57.5), Kolankowski (55.0) and Neufeld (53.8) posting sub-59.0 PFF overall grades. • The Bombers' top-performing offensive lineman was sixth man Asotui Eli. He played 19 snaps last week, earning an 88.1 overall grade and an 81.7 run-blocking grade. -

It looks like Jeremy Murphy is head of Kevens Clercius for this week's game. It sort of begs the question of why Clercius is the one on the roster for previous games over Murphy if Murphy is the guy who's going to get the start this week. -

I remember a few years back when Calgary was still a dominant team. They had a rash of vetern receivers getting hurt but seamingly every receiver they added to the roster from their practice roster could instantly perform. Michel, Begalton, Brescasin. And guys that were role players like DaVaris Daniels did well in expanded roles. This is what you expect for a model franchise. -

With the number of Canadians we are playing this week all I can say is I hope we’re playing Brazil.
