Around the League - Training Camp Discussion

I wouldn't want either, but there is a faint hope Willy could rebound. He really didn't get much of a chance in TO, or much to work with when he did - I believe they just jettisoned their either receiving core prior to him getting playing time - With glenn tho at 38 I think that dog's learned all the tricks he ever will and the outcome will be pretty predictable -

Maybe for a game, but the shine always seemed to come off him gradually until an inevitable injury. Right now Riders OL might be worse then our was in 2014 and 2015 -

wasn't there something to that trade, like Barker didn't want to give up heath initially and wanted to offer up someone else, but Walters ended up getting him anyways? -

I got nothing against Willy the person, seemed like a good kid so definitely feel for the guy. But as a football player, he was given more then enough chances to get his game back in order and it never did, so such is life. Plus he wears 2 gloves... weirdo -

I really hope so. He's got more experience than bridge and williams (or heaps if he ever makes his way back) but from a bomber POV i'd like to have ol limp willy behind the riders center -
It's not a matter of them "wanting" to give us something of value as much as teams recently have found themselves in situations of either needing to unload $$ due to SMS limits or they were likely to lose these players for nothing via FA. This is where these later picks have the most value as it's "better then nothing" to those teams with the assets. I'm not in favor of trading away high draft picks (I'd say 1-3 round) but these later ones who are clearly doing nothing for us the last few years could be turned into something more promising, but Walters doesn't seem like a wheeling and Dealing kinda guy when it comes to trades as far as I can tell for the most part **Edit** other than the drew willy trade, but anyone would make that trade 1000x over
-
that is my point, were hanging onto these picks, and subsequently releasing them. Could we not offer them up for a trade to a team looking to dump some sms space that could help us?
-
so that's it? I make my picks and you know what they are?
-
So we PR'd Spooner and released Intzandt? How does Neufeld keep surviving cuts lol. so this second round sees us cut; 2016 5th rounder (37th overall) Zach Intzandt 2016 6th rounder (46th over all) Rupert Butcher 2017 6th rounder (50th over all) Ian Marouf 2017 7th rounder (59th overall) Brendon Thera-Plamondon and we already cut 2017 8th rounder Taylor Henry.... I realize a lot of these guys have slim chances to make any impact, but If we're just going to waste late rounders, is there nothing we can do with these picks ahead of time via trade for something we could use? I understand that's very Taman-esque, but it just appears we are wasting these picks anyways.

I honestly don't think Calgary will be as good as they have been in years past. They will still have a playoff team and will still need a good showing to beat them, but They just seem a lot more down to earth this year with what they've lost both to FA and Injury so far -

He tweeted he was willing to be a coach prior to Montreal resigning him back in feb. Wonder if he's still interested -

as they should, they have a very suspect OL atm. Labatte fighting injury woes likely means they will play a back up at guard, Clark is a weak center. and Based on camp reports and watching the game yesterday, Dennis looks slow and out of shape. The short week should lead to them getting gassed and annihilated in Montreal and set us up for some easy pickins (sacks) come canada day as we will be well rested and rarin' to go. Gotta step on the throats of any and all West division rivals any chance we get (east too for that matter) -

I think the most pleasure I get out of the riders ass whoopin yesterday was last week after nichols went like 5/8 rider fans were telling me to be worried about Nichols performance. I argued it's preseason, means nothing, especially with so many key weapons missing but no... it was still cause for concern! Now i see the usual cheerleaders trying to reassure everyone it's just preseason, relax. -

Good summary. I get the feeling the 2nd unit D was playing harder because they are fighting for jobs, even as backups - much like Alexander was with the first unit. It's really tough to gauge the starters when it's preseason, especially when the play calling isn't all out. BUT I expected a little better from our starting D all the same -
Wasn't a big fan of the 1st one... but the cast in this could make it worth a looksee. Likely gonna wait for it to come out on KODI as i did the first.

love the duel threat Harris provides, and with a more then capable Flanders able to fill in at RB should we need to shuffle the ratio a bit (NI Rec) Harris may in fact be the MVP on the team (Not MOP...yet)
-
Alexander had a good night too imo. Broke up quite a few passes
-
as a MLB he left something to be desired. It was often a criticism about him about playing out of position. He was a good WIL, but with Wild already there Bass got pushed over to the middle where his play was pretty much the definition of mediocre. I'm a little concerned about our LB crew to have edm's rb run with ease on us in the first half. Hopefully the next 2 weeks we focus on correcting some of the things we did wrong tonight
-
I thought there was a play in the 3rd he took a hit and came up pretty slow from the play. Was able to walk to the sidelines on his own which is good but I think that ended his night too

then I think he will be cut. Lankford/Fogg/Thorpe(when healthy) will likely be our returners -

was it smalley who fumbled a return that lead to a scoring drive by the esks? -
I wanna give the HH to Butcher. He needs to clean up the penalties a bit, but I'm impressed he's already showing some progress. If he continues to grow, and Ekakitie can get the gas in the tank to play CFL ball, the 2 of them could be fixtures on our interior DL for years

Hopefully Denmark will be alright
