  1. They can, you can add value for final 3 minutes for instance. But I think people under value the earlier portions of games. It’s easier to win games before the 3 minute warning and avoiding the clutch with out making twice as many plays. Personally I value 2nd down stops that lead to kicks as much as first down sacks etc. I do agree on feltmate and yeah mci can progress. Idk if he will make that step before next tc but I’m ok with him getting a game here n there. Certainly over a guy like feltmate. I’d throw Samson a game as well. See if he can contribute. our pr ni depth is sad. I want Strev to take the reins. And I think he has a good chance. I think he can also help expose how bad kola is.
  2. How are we better off with mci on instead of charbonneau? Glad strevy is starting but man that depth chart is some where between a D- and an F, again.
  3. Ages ago I studied advanced math, data sciences / analytics, I’ve been a big fan of bill James work in baseball, and the use of advanced metrics in a a good few fields. I think the way they are used is improper, especially in football, and that they are over used. The field creates a massive opportunity for people with out a sporting back ground to get into pro sports management. It’s abused to an absurd level now. I feel like the cfls use here is entirely a scam. high level use, when to kick fgs, and the other stuff I mentioned earlier plus stuff like planning rest and intensity in practice is big. I personally think some advanced stats in athletic measurement is valuable as well. I hate what it’s done to basketball offences in the nba, but understand it. I do enjoy some of the chances on D though.
  4. I’m mainly concerned with our guys getting healthy on the dl and us divorcing Jake Thomas.
  5. here is a box score break down for ba and nichols. ba, half his tackles were after first down yardage was gained, he had 3 run stops but on a combined 24 rush yards. Zero pass defenses zero incompletions at him. 8 tackles. the longest play against Nichols was for 8 yards. Two plays forced 3rd down, 4 passes were incomplete when thrown at his target. 3 run stops totaling 10 rushing yards. 6 tackles. pretty clear to see those “advanced stats” are trash.
  6. The only point would be if he ends up missing 6 weeks, as they can retroactively change him from 1 to 6 weeks. Also, if Chris gets hurt or if both qbs get hurt. Even if one get hurts and the other gets removed for protocol or has to sit plays for an injury sub but ends up ok we are in a bad bad position. I don’t like dressing a qb or player who can’t play. But at this point of the week we aren’t going to get another qb in and up to speed that it would be any better. If Zach was modestly questionable we shouldve brought in a 4th. Personally I like having a 4th any way on the pr. or a we may well have squandered those games away too. We didn’t lose close games while playing well. We’ve stank. I don’t doubt our ability to lose those games even if gifted turn overs resulting in 7s. football doesn’t break down to math well. Yep and even that wasn’t taking into consideration plays where you come back to tackle other guys misses, or fail to switch on bunches and rubs, or making an amazing play to beat a run. Football analytics are worth less in micro than most sports, and are better used in a macro approach like going for it on 3rd down, going for 2 points etc. holm even more than last year seems to be a step late frequently. Last year his explosiveness allowed him to close out and save plays where more sound play would’ve allowed him to maybe play for a turn over. It’s not all on him, his side has struggled. Though ford has improved and the side got better with out karamoko playing big reps.
  7. I mean Nichols was basically playing sam on run downs, ended up with 6 tackles with out getting trucked or giving up a big play both of which ba did. So they are just calculating based off the stat box. I can look at the avg depth of tackle later but I guarantee Nichols is way shorter distance than ba
  8. It’s about how they derive that value. Ba had 8 tackles, which they value highly. Thing is, ba wasn’t even playing in the box. His tackles were mostly down field after first down yardage was gained. Like when wes lysack was leading the league in tackles and was cut, with no one picking him up. Biggie also had 8, and Thomas 4. So that’s 20 tackles with just 1 being for a loss. They are over valuing tackles because it’s easy to extrapolate. Value for a db for instance should be some thing like pick, ff/fr, pkd, incompletion to their cover target, tfl, tackle no gain, then tackle short of yardage on 2nd/3rd, then tackle on a completion equal or less than 5, then less than qb avg per completion, then less than wr average. Finally you’d have negative value plays. Some times you get beat and some times another player makes a great play, but in order to be reasonably accurate you have to skew to a low score. A pick might be a score of 1, with a tfl a value of .5, a tackle that yields a first but with in the avg per completion a .1 and a long td surrendered being +1. what I’m sure they are doing is int, tackle=tfl, ff,fr where the value doesn’t change much between each stat.
  9. The great thing about Adams like jbr said, is he can play any dl position and technique, so he can split snaps between dt and de. so in an ideal world you have woods take the most dt reps Adams takes the second most reps, wj splits evenly with another end, fox splits fairly evenly with Lawson. Every dl has looked much much better when not next to Jake Thomas. I think if you put any combo of dl out there with out Jake or big reps from schmekel, our dl will play exceptionally well. Playing next to an actually good imp nose makes every one much better too. If you have adams, fox and woods on the dl together at the same time in 40 or 30 front alignment you will see far better productivity from each of them than we’ve seen with them split up. Throw wj in protected snaps beside those 3 for 20 snaps a game and the whole front 6 will be the best we’ve seen since 21.
  10. Go back and look at the #s qbs put up against our D in it's hayday with the mafia. We had dominant nose tackles collapsing the pocket on the qbs lap, youll see pretty similar stuff.
  11. Reinbold wasn’t happy on his exit iirc, and he’s coaching in Hawaii again. I don’t think he’d come back from that to coach under the same management that is now a bottom dwelling team. the fact our cover team was soo bad with him last year and is already soo much better says a lot.
  12. Pretty much. The real question is why is our running scheme soo flat? Calgary took away inside gaps why keep rubbing izr none stop? Better run design would have us in 2nd and short more and take pressure off the pass game. When the dl is crashing inside leverage you run outside /wide zone let the d inside then crash on them for the edge and walk around them. We’ve only been using the jet motion on jet sweeps we haven’t been using it to create screens or pull the defense. Run jet motion to one side and delay oz/wz to the opposite side. That lets you start the sweep motion early pa the run and toss the screen, or fake sweep with a dive option, or you run mesh and take the short pass off the switch/pick. bucks use or our weapons is piss poor and amplifying Zach, and our ols issues.
  13. Vs backing up a guy for a couple months? Trying to imply that ray developed qbs under him and that played with guys under him later is soo silly.
  14. I entirely agree. I don’t know if he is or isn’t. He has never been a polished wr. Bc didn’t do a good job of working him into that role and developing him. If he’s healthy, I’d be fine to have him on the pr for a week to see how he is. If he’s still a threat with the ball in his hands he’d be an upgrade imo. If not, cut em loose. I’d bet against it. I’d be after him, but I don’t think he will be available. And I think some one will offer him cap crippling money.
  15. https://3downnation.com/2023/04/17/the-cfls-15-highest-paid-quarterbacks-for-2023-season/ they copy pasted the info from last years article, and doesn’t include the restructure last year or this year. Yep, and that’s if he wants to play through struggle and likely be on the bench. I really don’t think he will want that.
  16. He already did. He was at 550 last year and took a reduction in exchange for bonus this year. I would assume he’s already 480-500 but with the majority of that already paid out in roster bonus. Idk I feel like if he can’t compete he don’t linger long. to be fair, his play off run numbers here have always been poor. I broke down his combined play off numbers here after the gc loss, it’s bad.
  17. Gotta remember he had a decent market after the Hamilton stretch where they didn’t win a game he started for like 12 weeks. With his re negotiate this year he probably has a reduced cap hit for any new team this year. I think a couple teams would take a risk on him.
  18. Despite our ol issues I think he’d be even better in our system right now. It’s interesting that this deal goes through and not lucky, I wonder if farhan jumped the gun.
  19. Both threw to wilson Zach actually had the same number of different targets, Johnson is the only wr strev threw to that Zach didn’t and Johnson caught 2 of 5 passes. 100%. Strev was better than any half of football Zach has played in a very long time. Zach is quick to tuck it now and try to run but he looks like late stages Matt Nichols trying to limp away. As slow as Jake Thomas on that unblocked play up the middle. Lofton it any thing could improve too. Yoshi can’t stay healthy for even most of a regular season. Not to mention that massive over pay would’ve cost us some one.
  20. Nice! Yeah they pulled it out. Us vs ham should be interesting for battle of the basement.
  21. Almost 800 yards 3 tds 1 int teams 2-1 zach in a half more of football, almost 800 yards 0 TDS 4 ints 0-4 brown is middle of the pack, in a not great set up and game managing
  22. Add in hubert and you’re golden. Fayad on the pr In case any one goes down. Top to bottom that could be the best dl in the league.
  23. I could see it. I don’t think we’d get an amazing return but we’d get some thing and not have to eat that cap hit.
  24. Woods beside Adams inside. That would fix a lot of our front 6 problems.
