3 stars turds and maybe a glimmer of hope
wbbfan replied to wbbfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I would think so buuuut… the cfl is severely lacking in qb talent. And teams are always willing to gamble on has beens. See harris. In the off season we would’ve gotten a handsome asset package. Now, probably a mid to late pick and a neg lister. Still that’s better than the alternative. Maybe Toronto? Maybe back to Sask lol. Ham if blm goes down? Ott cus lol? -

That’s true, but the casual fans I know aren’t happy with the performance either. The people who go to fan day are a mix. I saw lots of people asking Harris about his suspension and all kinds of stuff. -

Agree with all of that. Going to be interesting fan appreciation day this year lol -
I tend to agree, but he might get duties stripped from him. this is basically it. If that doesn’t happen we are screwed. But I can’t imagine how wade wouldn’t be pissed right now. Nailed it. The first step to being great is to kill the good, every single day.

Funny that hansen and mauruo are in the league still meanwhile our globo talent is the worst in the league. -

What I look for in a guard is efficient foot work. Not needing big steps or rushing, keeping their feet under their frame getting to their spot and initiating contact. Choppy off balance footwork is a big indicator of struggle, but so is stepping too much to get to where they’re going. Leaves guys tiring out. Fast violent hands is a big one. I hate seeing linemen slow to get their hands on guys or tentative. It’s like cobra kai, strike first strike hard no mercy. If the ol can jolt the dl in pass and run pro with the first contact that’s a big deal. Bend is big, but should be teachable. Leverage takes you far. Often athletic linemen get away with poor mechanics at lower levels. Relying on upper body strength rather than generating from the ground up. They tend to un balance them self with a punch move as well in this case. O Linemen who spend their time trying to fight dl with their hands on shoulder pads seldom work out. It’s only a bit of movement before they rely on holding. Punch move, try and get under the pads, then go shoulders if needed. This is how guys go long stretches with out holding calls like Bryant. Hip fluidity is as important as lateral quickness imo. When you’re engaged and a guy tries to turn the corner being able to move and adjust with out losing power is big. I think the ni ol who play most of their ball in the us struggle with the yard off the ball. In pass pro the dl getting momentum is like a slot with the waggle, it hits differently. In run pro it makes you move then hit rather than just uncoiling from a 3pt stance or deep 2. -

Teams are playing heavy nose packages against us, twisting and stunting across the nose of kola. This has created 90+ percent of our problems imo. It’s the job of the centre to adjust protection, communicate pre snap reads and post snap to manage exchanges on twists stunts etc. I see considerable frustration from the guards, and even Brady on kolas poor communication and execution. Centre is like S, mlber, and qb in that it’s a primary group leader. It comes with a lot of responsibility out side of individual production. Most centres in this league are undersized and don’t handle and import nose tackle well. Kola is significantly worse than the rest at this, but his failure at the finer points of being a centre is what really kills kola. Our whole ol has not been able to get off initial blocks and get down field to the second level this year. This really limits our gaps for Brady. Normally in a 5 on 4 alignment you only get 1 guy to the second level with our izr/tite scheme. The play side guard and tackle combo block, and alignment dictates who goes to the second level. Basic rule of thumb is play side, who ever has they heads up or in their gap gets the help and the other player skips to the second level. We use a heavy set a good bit to creat a 6 on 4 where we can get two guys to the second level. This is general eli at te on the right side. In previous years very frequently the end would be over the edge meaning eli takes the man and hardrick was the guy to go to the second level. At current because we see a lot of nose tackle play and kola can’t handle really any dl one on one the guards aren’t getting to the second level. This also means we have a lopsided dl alignment most of the time where a dt is on a guards out shoulder crossing his face and going to the a gap. That makes it hard for the second guard to get much done. It’s hard to turn a dt or stone wall him when he crosses you. Dobson certainly isn’t where I want to see him yet, but tbh the only ni guard I’ve seen get it that point that fast in their first year starting is desjarlais. I think Dobson is still adjusting to his new physique as well, he was super athletic but rather pot bellied and about 30-40lbs over when he left college. We’ve seen a few guys go through that. Eli and gray struggled a lot at guard last year next to kola too. Bryant is the ageless wonder for sure. I don’t see him getting the chances to cruise like we used to, like every one else, but he shows no signs of slowing down. He was pissed last night too. Lofton can handle his man when heads up. Still struggles with speed off the edge but our inside is soo bad teams aren’t strategizing to beat the edge, no need when they can mash us up the middle fast. I’ve got doubts about him, but I wouldn’t trade him for hardrick currently especially with that contract. Dobsons best comparison imo is actually wallace, but it doesn’t help with projection for Dobson. Athletic, but over weight big frame ncaa linemen, Wallace is bigger for sure, and softer build but he looked better in pre season. Wallace could pass Dobson in camp next year at this rate. We played a lot of heavy set early in last nights game. And the whole game any time eli came on, he was making calls which helped his side and edge. I’ve never seen a guy take over calls while the C still tries like that lol. -

Except corney did. He was never a primary pass rusher, just like Kongo wasn’t. Both were balanced to run defending ends. He was a very good rotational piece on the verge of breaking out, he did a better job of getting pressures thab Kongbo even. the only comparison is they are athletic Canadians. Dobson is 26 with 5 starts. No one on the ol is performing well given the number of changes and struggling Guys. Dobson hasn’t been worse than Bryant. But handily better than kola and neuf. He’s performed moderately better than lofton. What exactly do you find impressive in ol play? Who has impressed you in any plays? Until the centre spot is fixed the rest of the line can’t be fully evaluated, neuf however is less mobile than my great grandma who’s long dead. His career is toast, we can cover for him but I don’t think he had the ability to recover to being more than that. -

Yeah I nichols quietly had one of his best games between pass and run D. It’s funny, having a Canadian dime rotational guy is great. Most teams would love to have a guy like that on the Bench, vs a S who plays like a scarecrow. But we just have to force him into a starting role for some reason. Griffin looked really good in his reps, and they played him at S some in practice last week which is a great fit, but he also has perfect size for a modern sam. If we moved cole and griffin into the full time S and Sam roles, either playing either spot, the improvement would be gigantic. Or even moving holm to S, bridges to his spot, griffin to Sam and Cole to wil. I’m not sure Ayers is a mack, but any thing is better than what we have right now. Yeah he is. And with his size 6’4 265 he can play some inside. If he bulked up a bit he could play as much inside as out. Tremendous player and talent. -

Don’t agree. Biggie was getting pushed around by every blocker on the field for Calgary, and when he was in the gap 1on1 he was consistently beaten by mills and Steven’s. the two best plays he was involved in, one Tfl and one stop at the line, were both made by hubert. Hubert on the tfl read the play, got off his block, got down field and forced the cut back into biggie and a pile. Biggie gets credit but was entirely the beneficiary. The other Hubert was riding his man up field cut inside and took biggies blocker out while mills tripped over the heap of bodies into biggie. Last year biggie was un able to get off blocks but was an asset dropping back into a medium and short zone, and could tackle one on one still. When he wasn’t pulled out of his alignment on an A gap he could fill or even be funnelled to. He can’t do any of that this year. -

We used nichols in the run fit instead of kramdi most of last night. Tells you a lot. you start 10 Canadians and play soo far over the limit you deserve to lose. most of those guys aren’t even part of the current picture if we want to make the play offs. We’ve officially rode the old boys club into the dumpster. If we cut ba, biggie, Thomas, colonslowski, and Sheahan we’d instantly improve. -

If lucky is going to be on the pr to start I’m good with it. Not an optimal move but it’s some thing. Until nfl cuts hit the wr market is thin unless you give up assets. Pr and see if he has any thing left. Maybe he was playing hurt last year. Don’t want to see him go right to the ar and eat up much money though. I agree with jbr too that weinke would be a far better fit for what we need. I wonder what it’d take to re acquire Bailey from Toronto. If it’s a mid pick and a throw in I’d be in favour of that. Even better if we can toss in a vet holding us back like kola. As for the talk of an offensive consultant to buck, keep Paul away. His shtick is already bucks shortfall, and we saw what he did to strevy in the past. Do not want. The guy would top that list while being available right now for me, is khari jones. I know he’s failed as a coach and oc by and large and is out of football for a reason. BUT, he could actually off set bucks weaknesses pretty well. 1) he ran some really good option offence in Montreal. Bucks option plays are junk. I don’t think he can coach it. Khari can. They also made good use of timing routes. 2) Khari has familiarity with the plop system, and the best screen/short game Paul ever coached was with Khari. 3) khari has been a hc, and could slide into a short term offensive qc role pushing buck but still getting along with him and the locker room well. 4) khari is close with wade and should be as cheap as we need. Other wise, I think the options are extremely limited. -

Kick cover and return was great. Castilllo gets major props too! Wasn’t a fake, was a bad snap but good gain all the same. -
You play to win the game. If he gets a fraction of a second it’s a decent shot. No qb is eating it because of the blitz.
-
Yeah he got the rust off. I’d love to see him get qb1 reps all week, a play install based on him in that role and a start.
-
If schoen was healthy and on the under route he reads the blitz cuts it short comes back to the ball and makes good gain. If buck called a better play we probably in fall.
-
Pressure all over him. If he had a blitz beater we probably win. 170 yards in a half. With a dumpster fire ol, rag tag wrs and buck calling junk.
