  1. Pass rushing does require development. Especially in the CFL. You will see flashes of disruption without it, but the skill gap for most guys' pass rushing is huge. That's a big part of why DL get paid, and DBs don't. I do agree the promise is very strong with Jenkins, Jaworski and Bailey. And to an extent, DL who want to excel have to put in a lot of extra work themselves in the off-season. Coaching DL is a very highly sought-after skill set, and the NFL has been focused on cornering that market for a while. We don't get polished rushers with good size and athletic ability coming up here anymore. Mostly we get raw guys with a ton of talent/athleticism that need to be moulded into something special. And a few higher polish guys who either lack a lot of size or athleticism. In Jake We Trust
  2. TC the media was pretty negative about how raw he was. But he did perform very well in his preseason look. If it wasn't for that pre-season game, he never would have gotten another NFL call.
  3. My hopes for developing DL are greatly reduced by the poor job we've done developing DEs over a very large period of time.
  4. Reading a Canadian D is a much easier transition to make than making the transition to reading a high-level D. How many D2 QBs come up here and succeed, or are blue-chip prospects even? It's very rare. The competition gap is gigantic, which is why people question his abilities. Because the talent gap from the CIS to ncaa is even more massive.
  5. 100%. I am hopeful for the young kids, but I'd like to see a really good end brought in or step up. Especially with WJ camped out on the other side. Jaworski is exactly the type of guy we need on that opposite end, if he can turn his flash last year into substance.
  6. Yep. I love what jy and hall, but that is pretty much the only stretch of time we had that consistent disruption/pressure. Haven’t had great personnel on the dl over that time, but we also haven’t developed or made use of guys in that time. I hope hall and thomas focus on the dl and disruption while jy runs coverage. we’ve seen hall run some brilliant front concepts when he’s had the horses.
  7. 3DownNation'You know where to find me': Mike Morreale would be inter...Former CFL receiver and seasoned sports executive Mike Morreale would welcome the opportunity to work in the league office if he were offered. "I would say w Fire stewart, hire morreale, and wipe the bogs clean too
  8. disruption with 3-4 and pressure with 4 occasionally 5 is best. It leaves you with the most options. No answer with blocking for the blitz. The way to beat the blitz is to attack the cushion. on either side 2/3 targets, you will have only 1-2 dbs on the line usually 1. So you have one guy clear out and throw to the under route. If it’s your 3 man side you have the 2 under guys force the nearest defender to jump one. If the cover all play up on the line you bust them off the line and take it deep on a timing route. That’s how dons D was beaten. Teams stopped trying to out block them, and started using the spread to get the ball out quick. The counter for coverage, is to show and drop guys, rotating coverage showing man and dropping into zone, generally forcing the qb to change his read at every point possible. If you take away the qbs ability to rely on his pre snap read, you make it very hard to run the quick game and beat the rush. After that, the best option is to move the pocket a lot. Drastic line shifts, slide protection, half and full roll outs etc. It is very hard to effectively rush the qb, when you don’t know where he’s going to set up. Some people get caught up with play action, but that just slows the process of getting the ball out and setting up protection with the back. Jet/fly/rocket/orbit motion packs on the other hand can be effective at beating the rush but it requires a very specific threat to work. If you can disrupt and pressure with your base though, it’s extremely hard to beat that with X’s and o’s.
  9. worked for don mathew’s for an unfathomable length of time
  10. you can, but blitzing is hard and strange in the cfl. The more guys you have that are reliable in coverage, like you said, you can do any ting and every thing better. D today is all about how well you can blanket with out breaking, and how well you can disrupt at the line. If a guy isn’t one of those or a guy who heavily enables others to do that easier, they aren’t an asset on the field. Just a body filling a spot. If you can take away over the top routes with out a massive bubble, you can run up and play the ball or the man and disrupt the pass too. Guys who can do both are worth their weight in championship rings. Guys like ba, biggie, and wj in their prime. jy/hall love versatile cover guys. Makes every one’s life much easier I wouldn’t be surprised if we find another db this year. We got lots of good vets, but we scout db and use them really well.
  11. gotta think he’s a guy jy likes. It was interesting hearing how high jy was on moxie. sounds like to him getting moxie was on par with the white/jake/broxton pick ups. Db is gonna be a hell of a battle in camp
  12. wow thats a surprise. guess he didnt get the money he wanted
  13. Yep. The NFL loves hypocrisy more than monday night football.
  14. speaking of politics, the nfl has won a grievance against the nflpa over pa grades. They aren’t going to be allowed to publish them any more, as people have been weaponizing the scores, while some teams (jets) have been slashing expenses like food to pocket more money. They are looking to a 3rd party to grade teams, which I think is great. I’d love to see the pa grades continue here but add the 3rd party grading as well.
  15. I have a feeling he is thinking it’s something it isn’t. I can’t think of any qbs who served as the camp arm to get signed out of that for camp, little on make a team. I could be wrong but it’s a pretty big hail mary. It’s a strange move for him. It’s not bad by any means, I expect him to be ufl bound.
  16. Not sure, he was spending some time during the winter in BC I think. He sure took to winnipeg though. He was in full practices for atleast 1/3 of the year. Idk what to think guess we will see if he makes it.
  17. Id be very happy to have him here. So true. Thats what I would think. He isnt a top tier guy, but hes among the best of the 2nd tier guys. And his fit here would be extremely good. lol the DBs would LOVE him in camp. Imagine if we have 2 NI wrs down in one game? Yikes.
  18. That's awesome, wonder if he's gonna go full-time into music post-career.
  19. I wonder where rhymes ends up, pretty surprised he’s still available. wonder if he’s expecting a crazy pay day that no one is willing to dish out
  20. I don’t think he is, he’s had a ton of wear in his career. I’d say more than any other qb in the league. More concussions than the rest of the starting qbs in the league, hand injuries etc In a perfect world we wouldn’t have signed zach, and would’ve gotten better value the last 2 years. That said, we don’t have any options this off season. 100%, no excuses. Going into the year with a very strong offence.
  21. zach doesn’t seem the type to be actively thinking about retiring or it being his last year. We all know the reality of his situation. that said, we’ve added soo much to the offence how could you not want to play and be excited? No doubt zachs entire focus is on this season coming. As it should be. I don’t think zach will call it quits. I think he will require us telling him he’s not coming back one day for him to pack it in.
  22. this is usually on archive after right? Makonzo signed with toronto. Strange to not bring him back after sitting on him for a year.
  23. I think that is a big part of it. I also think we kept sitting on money for flexibility. Glad that is over and we are back to competing in free agency.
  24. he is. who ever reps him in the us is not doing him a service
  25. We are clearly back in win now mode. We reached a bit for him, but with the nfl interest and pre season his value should be up if any thing. The draw is mainly in making a hype move, which is still valuable for half the league. I’d be happy if we took a former high pick, and got a mid round pick, or moved up in the global draft, or got other creative value. Some one like manu might be a worthy mix in for a team stock piling futures. Go out and find a qb who is quick enough to reliably make the first man miss when breaking the pocket and fast enough to out run cfl ends to the corner on boundary side. If he is coach able enough to stay low on the short yardage pack, you have a better qb3 than most teams in the league. (sad statement that is) And really put pressure on wilson, chase, and especially perkins to step up. No failing down into qb2, and 3 spots. Make one win qb2, or send them all home.
