Yep, I think we had the horses between fox, Habba and garbutt. But like you said we just didn’t want to for some reason. Though to be fair Garbutt might be killing it now because he had last year here. I’m sure he’d a been good still last year. It’s strange how we got soo far away from the dl looks that made us soo dominant in 21 and prior. I get Jackson took some of that roster flexibility, but we had di dbs back then and other wise similar usage. I am glad that it seems like JY has us going back to better front alignments and blitzes. And that’s just pre season. What he has in store for the regular season is really tantalizingly.

His stance. He went directly into his stance, and was in a 2 point stance that was still too upright in pass pro, and a 4 point stance (some thing tackles virtually never do unless short yardage.) with a 3pt stance on two other run plays. He was also really on the line at best for moving early going backwards in pass pro. Stanley is great at hiding his stance till the last minute he has to Commit, and using his leverage to work out of a lot of 2 point stances, some times a 3 on certain plays. But usually a 2 point stance with hands on legs and uses bend and step to gain the advantage instead of a 3 point. I went instantly to cjob for pbp gladly missed the whole mess with the rider flunkies.

Just usfl camp stuff for barry, but yeah I didn’t realize Wilson started a game and rostered for a couple. So he’s not soo green.
-
DC says Sergio had to return home for a bit, think bringing Randolph back is just min maxing roster spots.
-
Oh you’re right I’m out to lunch on that one. I’m glad we have Wilson. His adjustments and poise was excellent. If barryeh isn’t gonna coach up I’d look to bring in another for the pr still. With Strevy running and a true rookie behind him we for sure should keep one on the pr.

All fair enough. I bet it’s wearing to try and get legit answers. The best use of the dna I think would’ve been JJ with garbutt/habba to rotate. Or if we had signed lemon.

2023/2024 CFL (Non Bombers) Off Season News

They’ve got scouts and some talent. Just jones doing jones things holding them back. Basically emptying their ni stock and failing to add any has messed them up as much as any thing. -
Exactly. So if they are in dire need of a roster spot may as well. Seems like he’s a turn key LS already too. Dru brown. He was the worst rookie qb I’ve seen here in a long while. 4qbs with one on the pr is fairly standard.
-
For sure. having the best ol, and coaching in the league has really cemented the next man up process. Marty is a beast and I bet he’s excited about this crop of guys. Imagine if manu comes up too lol. Embarrassing for other teams. Eli Dobson and Wallace. Almost 1000lbs of beef. I think neuf is in the verge of replacement, but his experience and leader ship for the right side is needed now more than in a very long time. He’s gonna be critical in settling our rt. We are in great shape with the interior line and ni depth.
-
Some guys especially qbs need time to adjust to the pro game. If that’s all they think he needs, with his upside, it’s well worth keeping him around. Personally the top of the cut list would include Blackmon, vlaghionos, kornelson and a db or two. If you don’t cut mastro I’d suspend sheahan and let mastro punt next game. Seems like we have a few spots that’d be easy to free up. Leroux could be sent back to college as well.

Only thing I can think with Sergio to make room is that they want to wait till after a practice or two to make a bigger batch of cuts rather than squeeze one out now.

2023/2024 CFL (Non Bombers) Off Season News

https://3downnation.com/2024/05/21/edmonton-elks-select-dl-antonio-alfano-in-cfl-supplemental-draft/ elk grab a pretty good raw prospect for an 8th rounder. Surprised no one offered more what better value do you get with 6th or 7th -
100% baffled too. The knock on him was he was raw and needed a good bit of polish, and a lot of his fall was based on weight/speed combination. Im sure Marty has done a good bit of work with him. But for progress that fast he probably has really focused on being more sound due to excel at this level. He could get by with ease on size and athleticism in college. Some times increased competition is what a guy needs to hit the next level and some times that happens fast. In One of the interviews with him here, he was asked about weight. He said the bombers didnt mention his weights at all. They clearly weren’t concerned with his speed. He said he’s cut down on his own but isn’t going crazy with it. He’s just eating a bit better. Hence the being down about 9-10lbs. I think at 315 ish he’d have elite speed for an interior ol.
-
He was 344 at the combine. it is for the cfl. Neufeld is 310 and 6’6.
-
There are not a lot of 344lbs guards in the cfl lol our other guards top out at 310. Dobson had to go down in weight from 330 despite being able to dunk at that weight.

Great points all around. I think mos needs to be surrounded with the right COs. Plop was a great guy to support him early, buck has been better for his fit now. I think JY will be an improvement as he will want to do more and want more roster assets imo. I already liked a lot of what I saw from JY in our front 7 usage as well. I don’t think that’s been raised either, JY let his lbers blitz for pressure not to eat a blocker up and other wise had them running around making plays. He moved fox and Lawson around on techniques to great affect as well. Considering the situation I thought buck called a good game as well. Saw some nice wrinkles set up

I didn’t get a look back at it. Cover 3 would mean he was way out of position when his role is basically to stay with the deepest guy. But we and the league do run a lot of cover 3. The stadium cam made it really hard to judge coverage. Especially when it’s back ups vs starters and the starters are running overload blitzes. Great experience for their guys though.
-
Yeah. Personally I’d cut one and bring in one or two new kr guys. They did catch the ball. And only one made a bad mental mistake. I wouldn’t be surprised if we do a small to medium round of cuts this week. We usually do this to prioritize getting reps for guys who are at the forefront of positional battles and to bring in new guys. such a great group of young talented earth movers inside. If neuf isn’t good to go I would’ve started 3 imp ol before that game. Right now Wallace would be more than fine to start. If he keeps it up teams are gonna be kicking them self for passing on him. Yeah Dobson looks a bit more trim and just looked comfortable. Which let him play with that aggression he brought in college. The stadium is gonna be the original pancake house with the next generation of ol we have.
-
I did a rewatch of the Strevy portion of the game, focusing on the line. on second watch Wallace was even better than my initial viewing. He was excellent in pass pro and run blocking, moved his man with command and scored two pancakes. He also moved extremely well when pulling and going to the second level. He could start in the league this year. Look forward to seeing if he can keep it up. Lofton was more mobile than when he was with us before, but still can’t handle speed off the edge, and would need a vet like paddy next to him to lead in terms of switches, blitz pick ups etc. didn’t move the pile, and his tipping the play was easy to pick up in the first drive. Kola was his usual self. Good snaps, struggled with guys on the nose and cross face. Dobson was cruising and mashing. All his snaps looked good too. Augustine struggled with picking up the blitz and block/release. Strevy also struggled to read blitz pre snap. Cruickshanks play failing to get out of the end zone was sketchy too. Then he had a miss que on offense late as well. Smith is the front runner imo, both cruickshank and Blackmon are as likely to play the next game as being cut imo
-
That sums it up well imo. And I assume the default RT is and will be lofton.
-
In that case you can’t give him much credit for winning though. The team was flat in the last two gcs and guys played who shouldn’t have. He’s not top of the list but he’s on it.
-
Yep, just 5 rb hand offs. I feel like the idea was to evaluate the ol in run protection as well as wr/qbs. I don’t think they are worried about the guys we have succeeding in run pro. Im in pre season mode too. Don’t worry I’ll make some cuts and get the top 3 down to 4 or 5 for the regular season lol
-
Bare minimum yeah. In the modern game you need line play second only to qbing. Make the ratio work put a line out that keeps your qb upright. Play 6 ol like ham did with June jones if you need to.
-
Solid arm, we didn’t take any deep shots with any qb really. He struggled early but adjusted and bounced back. Impressive poise for a rookie. His mobility was good, better than brown. If he’s our qb3 I’d feel fine with it. Hope to see him finish the next game and start out a bit more composed. All the qbs seemed to be tossing a bit behind and low today. I think the lack of full contact practices hurts qbs ability to get the off season rust off.

It’s a good move for a team that can’t draft develop or sign an ol
