2024/2025 CFL (non-Bomber) Off-Season Thread

I don’t think Samson will get much of any chance. Lawson, plus we are married to Thomas and schmekel. He should get a good shot to be the back up but that’s not how we roll. mci big Kev and Wallace are exiting for sure. -

Parker is a Sam but maybe could kick out that said he’s not a guy we can bank on or pencil into the line up with his injury history. -

Not surprised how long do you give Lofton? Hardrick was instantly better when he slid out to tackle. Lofton is going into his 3rd year as a starter. He was still badly green for the first half of last year. While he got better, he hasn’t flashed being more than a replacement level starting tackle in the cfl. I think Lofton is better than average at G though. Id like to see Lofton slide inside (assuming Dobson leaves) and Randolph go in at RT. Otherwise, if Wallace takes the step forward he flashed last year, him in place of Dobson would be good. We need a few more imp T guys that can push Randolph though. Couture back would be fantastic. But I’m even less hopeful that happens. But Bryant neuf couture Lofton randolph with Wallace/eli as back ups would be good. -

I’m not sold on Sherritt as their dc. I don’t see that unit having instant success. -

Idk, we aren’t getting instant help out of the draft this year. It basically leaves us hoping to hit a grand slam with rookie imps to fix our issues from last year and what we’ve lost. 230? Haha wow. Seems like every year free agency is the expansion draft for the elk and lions. And yet still some how they can’t live up lol -

We can’t lose more than we gain again from free agency this year can we? -

Ted says thank you very much. I’m gonna be pissed if it’s a team friendly deal over there. I never really thought he’d play for another team. It’s extremely disappointing. -

Seemed like he didn’t make the grade. Could probably do worse than bringing him back but at that point I’d just go with a rookie who has upside. -

I don’t think he’s injury prone, far less than zach. He just had one freak injury and one dirty shot. I do think a lot of the value in him is as a guy to help groom the young guys and as a future coach. But I also think a healthy masoli off the bench gives us an excellent chance to win if zach goes down. Strev is a FA and hasn’t been resigned. If he doesn’t come back I think we add another guy. Hes wanting to see the fa market. Duke and arbuckle aren’t worth a hill of beans. Masoli gives us way more. Though duke is atleast maybe worth developing. Dole doesn’t offer us more than much of any one though. -

Apparently fox tweeted out some thing cryptic about thanking the fans and franchise here. Sounds like he might be moving on one way or another. Love the talent, but woods passed him easily for sure plus with Lawson back this year it makes sense. A guy like ceresna you make room for, though I don’t think we will be in on him. I think it’s gonna be Thomas (groan) and Lawson in one spot with woods, hopefully adams plus a crop of young guys, plus vaughters taking some inside reps plus the 30 front base reps. Then Willy vaughters and Garbutt going into camp on top of the edge reps with a crop of rookies. I think our penny pinching for FA spending will mostly be more bargain oriented guys like Mitchell. -

I think we all want a satisfactory answer to that question, but I don’t think there is one. yep and to be fair, 300k for a wr in the cfl today you need to be like 2k every year. -

That’s a good point. Zach and this offence offers a lot of assets, but not a lot of flexibility. You’ve gotta run heavy in an inside zone scheme, and you have to cater deep ball stuff for zach. And you better succeed instantly. If that was the case with Miller and Jackson, I’d get a pass game co to work with Marty and make him the oc. -

Yeah that makes sense. I can’t think of many reasons. Maybe trying to play two guys against each other to get the cheapest deal possible. -

He needs a crew cut on that salary. I’m sure he sees it coming. 200-220 is the top imo on him. If schoen isn’t gonna be healthy to start the year though, we are in a poor position as we will need a guy like lawler. But I’d try FA if he doesn’t want a team friendly deal. The ratio of money he’s made since he hit FA compared to the production is the most lopsided in league history. -

The savings we could see on lawler and schoen are significant. which makes me look at Demskis deal in an even worse light. He would be on track to be the highest paid wr in the league at this point. I love Demski and I’d like him to be back. But not to the tune of 225k+. In a choice between Demski and ceresna I’d like ceresna. I’d rather pay ford to stay than give Demski that kind of money. I’d rather have kept woli and let Demski go while saving 100k+ -

I was down south in the maga belt for work during the campaign and his win. Then till now a good chunk of the people I know who voted for him are even embarrassed and regret it. I don’t even want to think about how many ways this could impact the cfl in a negative way. I’ve been working on crazy lil impact preparations for things that no one would expect to be impacted. 175k for schoen 225 for mcinnis. I’d say that means lawler and Gino are in for low 200k range. -

That’s friggin awesome! Very good deal for us. Very happy he’s back. I wonder if this deal helps reset the wr market? Idk how you pay Gino or even lawler a lot more. Especially from fb lol -

And the rest was in reporting money. Every vet gets this to compensate for the travel and upstart money in town. 5 pass knock downs is only middle of the pack if you look at every db in the league. Look at him compared to all the starters. Look at pass kd per start. Like I said, he has an excellent knack for coming up in the run game especially when he’s blitzed. We always work in the db back side blitz. Hes good at it. He’s not good at making plays in coverage. Which is entirely fine. You need role players in your ni group. We can excel on D with him in a specific role, clearly. The issue is we have over paid him by a big chunk. If he can take one more step forward as a player, it won’t be an issue. Unless we then try to pay him crazy ford money. But he we also need him to retain his level of play from the second half and change of last year. We can’t have him step back from that closer to his career average level of play. He went from a good back up rotational ni, to a solid starting ni. Paying guys ahead of that step is dangerous and bad business. -

Every player in history has a highlight reel lmao BTW, only 3k of his 140k max salary is based on awards, stats, or games played. So he earned 137k last year, He got 25k in an upfront bonus, 13,800 in housing bonus. He was able to be solid as the inside wall player on the 4 man side of the match zone concept, with the 2 quickest athletes on our team around him. He's a good role starter, being paid on par with the best db on our team and the best in the league. I challenge any one to find a starting db last year in he cfl with fewer pass knock downs, picks, and forced fumbles. He has a strong knack for coming up into the box and making plays, on his own and on blitzes. He's a dave donaldson clone.
