Winnipeg, Urban Decay, and Other Cities
wbbfan replied to WinnipegGordo's topic in General Discussion
Dunno about the nhl stuff. Though a lot more than the down town plays into a sports reputation like that. Plus they have access to stay in beautiful locations with in Winnipeg. I don’t put any value or weight on that opinion. Most hockey players aren’t staying at the Hilton between games and the tier below hotels are just as good here. The last place in this country I want to be visiting for work is Toronto and nothing else is close. Even dirty old Regina. you are right most every major city’s down town has the hip part too. Like i said gentrification, sprawl and decay are a western thing. I do agree that the ability to differentiate between great hotels and crap ones is a tough skill today. Though chains are what’s reliable. Every down town has a marlbrough hotel type of place or lots of them. And the price isn’t that far off nice places. I think the big factor is with more popular cities people adjust down town to fit good down town when visiting. And that isn’t intuitive here. People do think down town Winnipeg is bad, have never been exposed to the down town of dirty south cities. Even back to the nhl thing, Chicago, Detroit, denver, Washington etc these are places if you make the wrong turn you’ll go through the filming of an wisdom of cops and into a real life episode of CSI. No joke, no hyperbole. No joke, they call it ch-iraq for a reason. Skid row? It’s gone from bad to unbelievable. -
Blinks early fumbles were all from trying to do too much down field. He just wouldn’t go down. Fought for yards like his life depended on it. He did learn and get past that quickly though. I wouldn’t hesitate to trust him with the ball in the clutch. not suprised. Walls was under the average weight but sooo strong. I had some first and second hand experience with that. One of those insanely strong p4p guys. Walls career is kind of like jeffcoat as well. Great pass rushers who could’ve had hof careers. Had hof talent. Didn’t have the consistent missed games jj did and was more productive in less seasons.

Tbh we had a lot of that in the taman era. His negotiation tactics and penitent for cheaping out cost us soo much talent. We likely would’ve won a gc after 01 if we didn’t screw around soo much. Bruce, Clark, Armstrong we screwed and low balled soo much under taman. Our fa pick ups virtually all sucked as well. I don’t blame the milt blink and other hold outs. Or guys leaving to other teams for a bit more money.

Winnipeg, Urban Decay, and Other Cities

Idk parts of down town suck for sure. Exchange is great. But tbh a lot of major cities have similar down town problems to what we do. Urban sprawl / decay and gentrification are issues all over the west. -
Yeah. If lawler players 18 like he did the first 6 ish back he might put up some crazy numbers and maybe he gets one more good size deal, not 300k but it’s possible he gets a couple years at a schoen Esq money. Next year is lawlers big shot. He got a late start and has all the talent in the world. Year after next any thing could happen. If he comes in pissed and motivated like last year he could push for an 1800 type year. Roster won’t likely be updated for a couple more weeks. Then after that it’ll be more regularly done. yeah he’s said and done some real dumb things in the past. I don’t think he’s cut out to be a panelist on tv. Maybe a segment guy on game days. I wouldn’t take him in any position with the bombers.
-
I think lawler will come down further after that year unless he has some crazy season, and then dalton will go up on his next deal. Imo 225-250k is going to be the new/old top end for imp wrs.

Gonna have to check that out! tossing the link here to watch later and In case any one else wants to see it

We don’t need to hit on a low risk high reward guy like him so yeah. Developing the next guy is more important. No matter who our 3rd imp wr is we have an elite wr core.
-
Yep. Though I’d also kick the tires on lucky if we will need a kr as well. It’s not conventional, but with the possible changes to kr, it might make sense to not di a kr any more. Use a 5th wr, and rotate them with a Canadian. Maybe one of the imp RBs that kr could split duties both in the offence and in kr.
-
That’s true. Though if you go back to his decline in Hamilton he was many years on the back slide when he came here. What was it 0 team wins in like 11 starts? League min is the right price imo. If he makes a team it should be a good deal. If he doesn’t step back to where he was I’d cut him and go with a rookie. That said, I don’t think even at a min I’d go with him here. I’d rather offer that to lucky, and work on developing new Dynamic guys that can bring a speed/deep threat that we lack now.

And it just so happens we have an opening for a global on the ar. Very different types of dbs. But Alford quality is extremely high in the modern era. Best cfl db produced in the past 20 years. Stiggers is likely the next best, but idk if he will stick in the nfl like Alford. Dees style of play fits soo well and he can bring soo much. Yeah and honestly that diminishes if he doesn’t have a nose to draw doubles. When teams chip him and get two guys on him etc he suffers. He tends to just coast back and try and swat passes. In 21 especially we had the versatility to enable his playing rover basically. We had multiple dl who could all be on the field with him and create pressure, and lbers who could cover for his aggression/misses. The injuries, age and reduction in support from other positions has really hurt ba, biggie, and wj. Hopefully we can find dts who can eat blocks and get pressures consistently, and not compensate with biggie getting smashed by ol, allowing him to drop back and help cover, and ba can recover and go back to doing more than selling out for hits.

To be fair, Zach was bad for longer before we got him. That’s why he’s a good value proposition if he’s reasonably priced. As long as they keep building the way they are ssk isn’t going to be a team to worry about. That will drive me crazy for the rest of my days. We should be about to go after Edmonton’s 5peat. A fist full of single factors and or people could’ve flipped the last two gcs for us. I wonder if we see the xfl 5.0 poach some of the remaining guys like lucky, grant, weinke, white etc.
-
Agree. Excellent low risk high reward guy. Lucky too. If grant doesn’t come back I’d take a look at lucky cheap as a last wr and kr. He’s a down field possession wr. Similar to Kenny lawler. Relies on getting open by route running, pattern tree/play design. And with his hands / frame doesn’t need a ton of separation.

I agree with this. The elite tier is those 3. Second tier is divisional All-Star quality guys. top tier, lawler schoen Lewis 2nd tier white hatcher Demski hardy (Demski is in this tier as much due to his diverse dynamic useages and elite blocking) 3rd bane emelius Hollins begelton Daniel’s but despite that I’d take the risk on guys like Mcinnis Coxie Snead cottoy hollins bane and emelius over guys like begelton and Daniel’s based on upside and ability to move up. The performances the riders WRs put up with the corpse of Harris and a bunch of qb3s is impressive. If any of those guys took baileys spot and last years reps they’d be in the 2nd tier easy.

We’ve seen a ton of turn over in the top 2 wr tiers the last couple years. Teams seldom fit their offence to their pieces these days. It makes for a low floor but a high ceiling for new guys. The homogenization of systems has teams looking for the same guys and taking less chances and more talented/athletic guys. Kenny lawler excels on polished skills, football iq, and effort with a great frame to boot. The Tim whites are the rare exceptions in the league now. With the hash change we haven’t seen more dynamic screen / catch and run type stuff, but we see more high percentage medium depth outs, ins, seam busters, and rub routes. how many guys are in the league that you’d be comfortable taking a deep 50/50 ball in the clutch? Lots. Every team has more than one on average. How many guys are that twitchy speedy dangerous type that can take any catch for a score? Not many. wr is the least of all concerns for the riders.

Jj is a great pass rusher who makes our defence and every one in the front better when he’s on the field. I love that guy, it sucks soo bad that it’s ending and he was never able to stay healthy and put up the monster stats to match his calibre of play. His impact doesn’t need to be conflated. Wj is a great pass rusher and has been even when jj isn’t dressed. Wj isn’t nearly as consistent pass rushing as jj, and most guys aren’t consistent in getting sacks. Some times you flush the qb some times you get the easy sack. Habba was very productive in place of jj, and has some great moves/first step. May or may not be legit, two of his sacks were easy finishes. 2 he ducked tackles and took advantage of his short height and leverage. But I’m excited to see where he goes. wj started the year very well last year. And jj missed a big portion of the first half year.

https://www.nfl.com/prospects/jeremiah-gemmel/32004745-4d44-4955-ac81-ab519eb69d75 https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/Jeremiah-Gemmel-LB-NorthCarolina love that he’s a 3 year very productive starter at a high level. Looks like a guy who plays with speed not a track guy. Good size for a wil/s/sam in the cfl. His pff grades in pass cover were really good. Like the look of him for a prospect.

Yea. Instantly bad results lol.

Rookie imp can play in the league and not miss a beat. It’s just hit or miss as to if guys can adjust to the Canadian game. Imo the yard off the ball makes it easier to adjust to pass pro as a tackle in the cfl.
