  1. Has corneys money triggered yet? I thought they were cutting him hence the rumour of us picking him up
  2. Strange move for him to sit out the whole last year then come back. What a dumpster fire to walk into as well loool.
  3. When I looked back at the 3dn reported salaries the cost of back up RBs and QBs tor most teams was stunning. Strong arm, strong runner tough to bring down in the pocket but yes. Strong arm and running qb athleticism can take you far as a qb. But it won’t take you to being a great starter. honestly I’m not sure you can teach a pro qb to read and run an offence. If it isn’t in the tool kit by that point I think it could very likely be he doesn’t have that strategic analytical field general mind set. I also feel the more raw talent and athleticism a qb has, the less they develop the cerebral side. You can dominate games at college and below with out that side. Corny has all that raw package stuff. That is just a notion of mine though, and even every rule has its exception. It would be very interesting to see though how corny and buck would work together. I think that challenges both of them to do and be better. Not keen on us paying big money for that though.
  4. Very pointed up side in that move imo
  5. Off season mode on steroids. Fa can’t come fast enough.
  6. That’d be interesting. Or maybe medlock! lol. Now that I think about it it’s kinda odd k/ps never seem to become coaches. I wonder if mos could take that role, then allow buck to take some off his plate and use that room under the coaches cap some place else. Or we might even have a position coach who could double dip with support from mos. Hogan, bourgoin, or stanley could fit. Stanley is probably the best fit imo, but he’s already doing double duty. Bourgoin is super under rated and it might help keep him here longer and develop him more. Hogan isn’t the best fit and is the newest guy but rb is a less demanding position to coach imo.
  7. Just keeps hanging around. Clearly he isn’t a fraction of what he used to be and they don’t and can’t trust him to start. Never liked him as a player love him in the booth. Kind of an odd situation. I feel kinda sad for him. All the heart and desire, used to be a star qb and he just keeps trying to recapture the past glory. yeah pretty much. If it’s prukop type money and his role it’s fine I guess. Suitor would be soo torn about drooling over him.
  8. Doesn’t matter where they come from lmao a teams ability to use a guy doesn’t change if he sits on another teams pr before he’s signed, or plays some place else first. Shake your goofy head.
  9. Agree. You keep lawler and schoen at all costs right now. Bailey is likely the odd man out. id bring him into camp. At his best he’s an elite sam who is as good filling a gap and playing the run/screen as any db in the league. Big time physicality, loyal to a fault, and a great community guy. Idk if he still has it, I think he’s being made a fall guy personally. Wouldn’t give him 100k but I’d bring him in for 80-90 maybe with incentives. We went hard after him twice as a fa too. Thats true. Collusion in the cfl is a way of life though. In pro sports in general. The nba can’t stop it. How many times in the last decade have people been punished for it? The cfl created a pre free agency negotiation period in the off season entirely because they couldn’t stop or even limit collusion. Tampering is the worst kept secret in all of sports. The dirty truth is every one knows and no one acknowledges.
  10. And what does their source matter? It’s not that schoen would be replaced by one guy, his touches would get split between those guys.
  11. Lawler Demski and woli haven’t been able to do much of any thing? Agree.
  12. You’re right it isn’t and you do raise interesting points. However I’d argue that RBs peak is actually shorter here than the nfl. while careers tend to be longer, it’s just the recycling nature giving guys a much larger time playing past their prime or being good. Few guys dip in productivity and are gone quick like blink. I’d actually argue the opposite. Brady doesn’t have the speed to make up for indecision. When he wasn’t hitting the hole as hard and fast as possible he struggled. As soon as he started running intuitively and trusting the blocking he exploded. I think if he loses a small bit of speed it will be similar to that time.
  13. Insert random over rated rider vet here * lol Hes a talent guy. And will probably be cheap this off season. But idk if we are filling a wr spot, I wouldn’t want to pay more than the imp rookie base. We can find and develop WRs now. We’ve had tons of wr talent in camp the last few years. Bailey and woli can back fill a ton of catches too. Tbh if we lost lawler or schoen for what ever reason, unless we have an elite guy available id rather fill internally and bring in another ni. We could very easily start another wr spot. Also, I’d keep schoen over Brady. Even though Brady is my guy, just no comparison between an elite prime age wr and a rb with a few years and lots of Carries. Rb has the shortest career length of any nfl position, despite the most play and production and the role being heavily split in the modern era. 2.5 years per career vs the league average of 3.3. the average retirement age for RBs is 27. The peak is well known to be 23-27. The 27th year is known as the cliff now. Since 2010 only 11 RBs in the nfl have reached 28 and 29 years of age in the nfl. And those are improved numbers! Brady is 27 next year. With out bad luck he likely has 1-2 years at a high level. Schoen likely has a good 5 years then a less steep decline after that too.
  14. We need jeffcoat healthy for the play offs, the mid stretch and ld. At this point I don’t expect him to be healthy half to two thirds of the year. But he’s such a monster when he is healthy. With that ir money off the cap jj is actually a bargain for the stretch and play offs. We need to focus on developing the rotational guys and stick to a roster that allows them to stay on. Mysterious injury aside, Habba should’ve been on the active roster all year. Should never have seen the pr. Love Cole coming back. That kids got a bright future. I love the aggression he plays with, and his athleticism really shows on the field. Some guys who are freaks like that just look slow to react on the field, not Cole. We all talk a lot about the depth and Canadians, and rotation that made our D great. But the most under rated factor imo was the versatility. Biggie could take a deep zone from mlb depth, Willy could drop back/swat passes/and play inside on cheetah sets, guys like Hansen and kongbo could stuff the run inside out in cheetah or 4-3 and get some decent pressure, stove was a nose but also a monster inside pressure machine, ba was the best cover s in ages, but also a monster in the run game. All our dbs could tackle solo or blitz and get pressure too. We had multiple guys who could play multiple positions in the secondary and kyrie could play multiple lber spots and fill basically any role you needed. we could run any thing from any set or front and execute simple to exotic looks on short notice. Cole has that exact kind of potential utility. That’s what we really need more in our young guys. The ability and willingness to go out side the norm and the comfort zone and do things that prevent the O from getting comfortable.
  15. Our teams in terms of cover and return has been carried by grant and a couple beast cover guys. Before that, medlock Carried teams. We couldn’t develop our national k/p, couldn’t cover, couldn’t return kicks with out grant, couldn’t develop return guys, and we spent a ton of draft capitol on ni teams guys who didn’t develop either. The kick cover alignment and game plan was horrid all year. Couldn’t get our punter to execute either. I think he will bounce back with another team and he deserves a look. But for two years he didn’t accomplish jack $&%£ as a teams co. I always felt that mos was heavily involved in the game plan. This last year he kept talking about having a plan and sticking to it. Despite it not working. I wonder if the relationship soured or boudreau wanted to make his own stamp and try to jump up from teams co like mos did previously. It’s strange. But this is going to likely be the strangest feeling mafia play off off season to date. I do think it’s positive that mos is willing to move on from a guy who’s been here for soo long. Gives me hope for the rest of the squad. Good (coaching) roster management.
  16. I bet the elk give our the dumbest deal in free agency, again.
  17. Doesn’t the amount of nationalized imports increase this year too? He’d be perfect as one of those guys.
  18. That’s an interesting thing. No desire to play but deep desire to coach. Kinda dinwiddie Esq. it’s a tough thing to have that dream since likely middle school or earlier and make it all the way to the pros, think you have your foot in the door as a starter then collapse. Wonder where he will coach. It’s gonna to change the market for back up QBs for sure too. Either way best of luck to him. We sure need fresh blood in offensive coaching up here.
  19. Even in that group I don’t think ba has ever been paid even 100k. * I checked and we actually gave him a raise for last year and he made 101k. Which was the 17th highest in the league. Leaving him as our only db in the top 20. I think he basically flip flopped pay cheques with rose. Jeffcoats price was down a bit and tbh the de market is up. Plus he’s on the ir for one or two 6 game stints any way lol. I don’t think biggie has made elite money since he took that huge pay cut to stay. *he’s actually 3rd, but far below what he used to make and that’s still a lot below what the market will be this off season. Big Stan at 8th highest and yoshi at 20th. Ham has two in the top 4 3 in the top 10. Tor 2 in the top 7. Honestly our pay to the top guys like you said is way below market average, the issue is we are just really old. No ones got their best football a head of them. Our changes will stem from that, we won’t be hard pressed financially or cap wise. Zach could always renegotiate to stay a drop to 450-500k pretty easy too. I could see biggie possibly taking another team friendly deal to do less of a role as needed too.
  20. A lot of real fringe guys getting work outs right now. Don’t think many will get a sniff.
  21. Lots of places to make that ratio work, few teams start ni tackles and we haven’t gone imp at guard in ages. Base salary has gone up, though not retroactively. Also, the salary cap is going up 160k this off season. rb, ni or other wise is 100x more expendable than wr. Is what it is. You keep schoen and lawler flat out.
  22. They aren’t getting an extra 150k, and it’s not 20-25k, I’ve pointed out multiple positions we can save north of 50k at. If we dress a rookie imp signed this year. Not if it’s a rookie imp under existing min contract or Canadian or global. So no it doesn’t. It isn’t all those vets. It’s really not that complex. They do. That’s why lol Very probable.
  23. We could replace the marine with an ni and save money. If we go with a proper ni fb we could back up by committee with Demski, bailey if he stays, grant, and have a guy like gmc (but hopefully better) on the pr to replace any injury more than in game at rb/wr/kr. Keep in mind we were competitive in the market for desjarlais and kongbo coming back. In the cfl the cap is very easily workable especially with the amount of 1 year deals. also some back up positions are cheaper for each ni/imp. Back up ni dl market is cheaper than ol. Back up QBs are the most expensive of course. We could go ultra cheap ni for qb3. Keep in mind dom Davis got 94/134, Dane evans got 94/150, arbuckle got 130/229, Shiltz got 125/205. Basically every team has been paying starter plus fringe star wr money to qb1 and 2. Brown got 82/97 last year. Realistically I think our market for him would be 170/220 range with incentives for playing. Go from Thomas to rookie, Augustine to in house or ni rookie alone puts us at that range. Going cheap ni at 3rd string qb and having a future developmental imp qb on the pr would easily put us in that position. We can also go global, like Karamoko/maruo at di over an imp and save a further significant chunk as globals are the cheapest guys on the roster.
  24. Not for rookie Canadians. That’s 50k savings for Canadians. We would not need to cut most of our vets. Our 4 highest are all making more than what schoen or Brady would get. We can also use the yearly bonus cap to get them extra money. We always use it in that way just generally in reverse. we could also cut down the savings for mid season additions, get vets to take pay cuts, etc. Wiggling under the cap in the cfl is easy compared to most pro sports. And the charge for going over is very mild. We could cut the mid season addition fund in half and then if we are close bad in dire need and a player that fits the need arises we can use the overage on that and pay the fine, even give up a pick.
  25. Not at all true. We had soo many 100k cheques to guys who don’t need to be back from Thomas to Augustine we have all the room in the world to make it work. Zach could renegotiate and go back down to 500k as well. Dru isn’t going to be fishing for the biggest deal, the best opportunity to play and have a good supporting cast is what he will go for. He isn’t signing for 1 year and no one is going to sign him for 1 year. Makes no sense for any one to do that on a new team.
