  1. he certainly couldnt have prevented it. Though I bet he wouldn't have tried to go hard against the government and get very little money when more was on the table. The cap has created a league where the same disciples spread and the same experienced guys keep floating back to the top. It certainly wouldn't be fixed, but I think it would be a lot better bringing new blood into the league. Maybe not, but I think it'd be better. Cohon was the last commish with actual power. The BOG trusted him and empowered him to dig them out of the trouble he came into and he did. I wonder if perhaps part of him leaving involved the BOG wanting to peel back some of that power. Cohon era remember edmonton was pulling massive attendance. While we were far lower I feel the average team was much higher. Has the cap increase beaten inflation though? I bet that would be real interesting to see, though the recent massive surge in inflation would certainly skew those numbers. Is it? The stuff I follow I don't seem to see that. I could believe that attendance is dropping though. Especially post covid. The nature of entertainment has changed A LOT. Yeah, We need the NI rule, and I like some of the thought process behind globals. But it has basically just filled out punters and the odd kick cover guy. 100%, an expansion/rebuilding team just needs to buck the popular trend and do things differently. It could be a huge boon as teams try to catch up and involve new wrinkles. Increase in NFL PR size has certainly been an issue, as well as xfl/usfl. I think long term more talent circulating will improve quality of player for every league though. Another 3-5 years and I think all leagues left standing will see benefit of this. It is, but, the FA thing has created events like lawler, where a guy leaves gets an insane deal that messes up the market, and then it doesn't lead to any thing.
  2. I’d say, Attendance, league wide team stability, league wide venue quality, leagues ability to Scout/develop/ and retain talent, the games rules have become more convoluted than ever, challenges barely serve a purpose with the in consistency of enforcement/calls, 80% of the league is a free agent every year, the game on offence and defence is as stagnant as ever with every one running small variations of the same stuff, league wide debt levels, I mean it’s honestly a lot of different areas. Some are hard to quantify but in deniably worse. For sure the leagues BOG is as much to blame as any one. Since cohon all they’ve had is fall guys/patsys. Would any one argue that the league would be worse off or not better off if we had kept cohon this whole time? I very much doubt it. Maybe I’ve crazy, some of that stuff maybe happens any way for sure, but I feel like it all would’ve been dealt with better with cohon.
  3. One bottle of grey goose per team courtesy of jones/ambrosie. Despite a bigger tsn deal, the biggest us tv deal ever, and the gambling revenue, I’d say the league is in a worse spot than it was when cohon left. Am I out to lunch?
  4. Or when Chris jones insisted that the hs job was his dream job. Right before he bailed mid season for Toronto then Edmonton.
  5. Imo when people need a job or need a specific hire, it’s the wrong fit. Desperation seldom leads to success.
  6. Yeeeep. And I for one hope we land one or two of their guys. A guy like oakman, Pickett/mcmanis would be incredible. Hladik and Bryce Carter are guys I’d be after too. One from each of those groups would transform our D in a big way. Hladik and oakman? Letting us flip the ratio between lber where we have depth and dt where we don’t while running two imp dts and having Lawson rotate to keep every one fresh. Suddenly our dl is Deep and easy to keep fresh. Carter rotating with the jeffs in a smaller front dl still keeping guys fresh and adding a beast of a lber to work along side kyrie when healthy would be sick too.
  7. I think Toronto is ripe for a fa exodus. They’ve got a lot of big free agents and big raises due. They’ve been rotating lbers for a while and I’m sure some of them want to be the guy now. Mace is like the 3rd guy at dc in the past few years though. He was only with the Argos for 2 years. Idk if his draw will be soo strong. Hall might’ve been mos, certainly more mos than buck or plop.
  8. I think this is normal early on in a hcs career. I think buck and maybe hall were both guys wade/walters wanted. It makes sense from the gm/president/board perspective as well to want to have an ast coach that is a candidate to step in if the hc fails. If Edmonton had that with Chris jones, they may well have already fired him. But as is they are cap crunched with no one on staff who can take over for him. A guy like that likes to keep every one around him, below him. Imo at the same time, mos is not that guy. He doesn’t consider him self the smartest guy in the room or need to feel that way. I don’t think mos has ever felt threatened by working with plop, Wylie, hall or any one else. He could be a co for 3-5+ years and still be a youngish hc with a long career ahead of him.
  9. Agree. Waiting is going to serve him well too. Soo many guys rush into a hc job in the cfl only to fail and lose their co career. The right spot for him just might be edm once jones is off the books and they have a clean slate with a full empty front office cap.
  10. I never put any value in any insider information in the cfl. I’ve seen soo much junk shared in every form of outlet from posts on here to tweets to articles. Hc in waiting behind mos is a long long long wait.
  11. I would’ve liked to see fresh blood at oc, but realistically getting an oc with the experience needed to immediately out perform buck would’ve been hard and very un likely to happen. Hope fully buck can continue to improve. Despite my personal preference and general desire to see fresh blood calling the offence in cfl I’m sure we are better off this way for 2024. Im sure buck will get his chance eventually and he’s a great guy. Waiting longer to be a hc will be better for him too. going to be real interesting to see what kind of staff mace puts together. With out inside info I have no doubt that buck wanted the job and mace was the pick. Mace is who I’d pick too. Buck wouldn’t have gone that far through the process to decline and not publicly pull out of the running.
  12. Prolly similar to how most of us feel about friesen but more so. Good hire for the riders, it’ll be interesting to see how he fairs.
  13. Very happy that the big three talent guys are back for multiple years.
  14. Of course I know him, he’s me. lol I think the key with mos is walters/wade has to keep him and the coaching staff in line. Know their weaknesses and off set it. Can’t roster Jackson every game for 5 snaps 2-3 good when he’s not under contract. Nope, if any thing trade. can’t see it. If he was back next year he’d be trying to go south the following off season again. No stability. And that’s if he doesn’t sophomore flop to hell. I’d rather run with brown and Strev for less combined.
  15. Wilson is an interesting one. Larger pigrome Esq guy. Doesn’t have great down field passing ability but better short and intermediate than you would expect for such a dynamic runner who bounced around a lot. tbh you could fix an ol real fast if you flipped ratio real hard. Start 3 ol and run a heavy 6man set full time or 4 with just 5 and things would improve fast. Just no one wants to do that and flip extra WRs, RBs etc to ni. Beat me to it. I think that’s the min but ya. Just poach ex bomber imp ol pr guys that’s what most of the league seems to be doing lol.
  16. No one said the offence wasn’t good in the regular season, and it was the total offence you know with the real mop Brady. Idk how you manage to not understand that.
  17. It’d be bourgoin not costello. I was postulating that if buck leaves he might try to take costello since he would run the offence in Regina any way. I think highly of bourgoin as a player coach and developer. If he’s got the x n o strategic side idk but I think we are going to find out.
  18. True. that’s the move I’d make if I was picking between the two.
  19. I feel like maybe Lawrence played through some bad injury or some thing this year. He looked a lot better even in pre season. So I’m good with him coming back. Ba and rose, I wouldn’t give mos a crutch. Both are still players with use left. But both shouldn’t be starters on a contender any more. But maybe mos will pull the trigger if they are out performed in pre season/ camp. He did leave rose off the gc roster. 100%. Especially in the system we play we need guys who can be close, make tackles and make WRs pay a physical toll. If jy takes over this year I think that’d help too. We lost the last few key nfl cut free agents we had. We really need ford back to bolster our ni talent. He’d be huge, I could easily see him taking a starting job and running with it this year. Which with Kramdi as back up works perfectly. I don’t think Sam is a great spot to go ni at today. The modern bigger Sam’s are becoming a key position with covering run fits and being able to cover slots man up if needed.
  20. Maybe it was front loaded so it could dip in time for the front office guys to get covered. I wouldn’t be surprised in the least. For all that’s happened the thing about mos that sticks with me most and always will is just after the 21 gc stadium parade celebration, he and his wife walked around and picked up garbage off the field. Could’ve left it and trusted the grounds crew to do it. Could’ve directed such a group to do it. But nope, they walked around and picked up every thing them self.
  21. Iirc he comes out for part of camp, but that guy has made pro football life really work well for him in the front office. Happy the big 3 are back. Hopefully they will bring the change needed. True, they must’ve pretty much agreed to split what was available. Great for us.
  22. You’re confusing correlation with causation. The personnel in our secondary is not why we lead the league in pass D. Our offensive domination especially in top and td%, our pass rush/run stop and our bend but don’t break game plan caused that. Teams just didn’t have the time/attempts to drive the field repeatedly. The secondary tackling was beyond pitiful, recovery poor from most dbs, Houston was gambling and getting burned frequently. Parker Nichols holm and Kramdi should stay. Though not automatically all in starting spots. Kramdi is valuable too. He’s probably best as the reserve db/rotational guy. Though he could take a step forward next year. He puts him self in position to make a lot of plays, he just needs to get better at finishing and being consistent. Having that in a ni is huge. Vs having 3 ni dbs who can’t cover a guy at all.
  23. I would get rid of a lot of dbs tbh. Parker, Nichols, holm and Kramdi. And in an ideal situation both Parker and Kramdi would have to come in a take a starting job from some one. Even the back up nis, I like to exhume and the Halley’s. But imo you can’t carry 3 ni dbs who can’t man up. Not when you carry 7 lbers especially. A guy like rose/ba is good for culture and continuity. But I don’t think we can rely on either any more. Luckily you can rebuild a secondary quickly. I think some one is likely to over pay Houston and take him off our hands. I like the guy as a person and pull for him but he’s not what we need.
  24. And, a starting Canadian. I don’t know if he leaves for that tbh. I think he’s likely to get some thing 180k or higher from us. The real league mop, the best back, an all round guy who blocks great catches well and is a starting Canadian. Look at what drew desjarlais got from ott. That was a while ago. Drew desjarlais got 260+ incentives. In both guys you’re talking about the best at their position, absurdly young for their success, and Canadians.
  25. The culture definitely starts with wade. Mos and walters are here because they fit the culture wade wanted. Mos certainly is a big factor for how the room actually runs, but he wouldn’t be here if it didn’t run the way wade wanted it to. It’s said a lot in the working world that people quit bosses, money is often an excuse as to why people leave. Buts people in all fields mostly want quality of life. happens a lot. From khari, to June jones and dinwiddie and Dickinson. Idk when you’d have seen an offensive co become a hc for the first time and not have hands all over the offence and functionally run it. Not really for Brady it’s pretty win win for him. He can get a lawler Esq offer from ssk and sign for 50k less here and get 50 more than he likely would’ve. I mean from their stand point it only makes sense for the riders to offer him a ridiculous contract too. If I was most western teams I’d offer him 250k with ease.
