If I had to pick from all our dbs over the past 20 years to make one unit idk if id take JJ. Mo, Ba, Randle, Hefney, would be locks. I’d be hard pressed to take JJ over alford but hof is a player career thing. Not just a better player in the short term.

For comparison mo Leggett in 4 years had 16 picks for 432 yards 4 return tds 2 kick return tds 12 sacks 266 tackles 12 knock downs. randle had 18 picks for 180 yards and 3 defensive tds 3 sacks 360 tackles 19 pass knock downs. That’s true though JJ did win a cup with the riders. A hell of a thing.

Yeah it is. That and modp are the big thing imo. That and 5 time all star. Pretty impressive db stuff. The two are what either carry him into the discussion or get him in. With out those two he doesn’t get a sniff. that’s how I recall it too. I remember having Hefney above jj but I always like Hefney better personally. Not as much a flashy play maker but a great football player. To be fair most modp awards go to the team as much as the player. But yeah it really could’ve gone to a couple bombers that year.

And tbh thats swaggerville in a nut shell. For my money Hefney randle and mo were better players in their careers here. But didn’t have the longevity of jj.

His career ran long and past his prime, but his season with us alone were crazy. before really looking at the numbers I was a toss up. On one hand if you aren’t like rod hill or Browne it’s hard to get in as a db. I think JJ is hof worthy, but not a slam dunk easy pick. It’s just much easier for des lbers WRs RBs and QBs to get in. Ol dt and db is more about reputation.

100%. The magic of people like Anthony bourdain, Louie Theroux etc is/was that they make every thing seem like a regular conversation and cut through to the bs. I don’t dis like bauming. But he comes off as an insider when he seems to lack what I would call fundamental understandings of football/cfl. Yeah when was the last time we filled a main coaching position from out side the team? Plop, who was here twice prior or hall? Bourgoin has been here soo long. I’d bet any thing he becomes the co. At that point though I think we’d go out side the team to find a new qb coach and maybe some one to ast or qc the offence for Bourgoin. Will buck leave, who knows honestly. It’s all about if buck wants the money and the ability to move up. Buck was here 4 years then gone one and been here 9 years since. I can’t see him leaving for any thing less than a great opportunity. I don’t see that being what sask has to offer. I’d like khari as a qb coach, oc qc, oc ast or a combination there of. He could easily still develop into a very good oc but I wouldn’t want to take that risk.

Counter point, Brady. Who’s a viral sensation for rescuing tons of animals all over. No better, or bigger diplomat for charity and being a good person in the league. That’s not to mention his countless hours of charity work with groups like variety. Time>money. Other wise Zach could but that award every year if he so desired. Or Chris jones. Every qb wants an ol first and foremost. Especially older guys. First thing the riders have to do if they get a good coach or not is get an ol that can pass pro.

I talk a lot of trash about guys like suitor, and deservedly so imo. But he does love the cfl, not just the riders. He’s a total homer but the few people with legit passion for the league do deserve that credit.

Monsoon and Washington have turned down better offers I can’t imagine either being tempted. Needs actual reporters. Impartial, objective, professional people who can who can provide insight, ask good questions, sniff out and tell a good story. I don’t think the league has one person like that.

I get that. I’d take the 21 team. I think the cats slept on us in 19. No one slept on us in the last two gcs. If Toronto slept on us last year like they did to mtl we’d be going for 4 gc wins in a row. Thats true. Certainly not in 3 down football too. tf is Matt Nichols a hot topic? Hard to compare a battered and broken qb to a young raw guy. Nichols didn’t throw games away. Cf throws away a lot. Both teams were carried by great Ds and special teams. As a member of the meh Nichols club, and probably president, Nichols was always at his best in the play offs, and late close games. Nichols had arm limitations, cf has brain limitations. Nichols did the most with what he had, cf doesn’t. If Nichols and cf traded physical attributes entirely, Nichols would’ve been better and cf would’ve been a hs back up at best. Nichols was a leader, the opposite of a head basket, and tough as nails mentally and physically. I liked cf in college with Nevada. But I think the dirty old Regina state of mind under the disciples of jones ruined him. Right now I’d take cf as a qb2 running poopkup type stuff with a real passing qb as qb 3.

I’d I had to define them, I’d say 2021 was a historical team. All time elite of the elite. This team id put in a level of the west semi and final team in 2019. Had holes but has the ability to fix most all of em. 2021 the gap between us and the whole rest of the league was miles and miles deeper. Teams couldn’t score on us at all in the 4th. One of the stingiest defences ever and an offence that could dominant and blow out any one with ease. That 21 team had soo much junk time with back ups in and foot off the gas. This offence is more explosive but less consistent and not as good at protecting the ball. Zach was sacked more in 4ish games than all of 2021 regular season. Win rate and even differential aren’t be all and end all stats. By those stats the Argos this year were better than any of our 19+ teams. And they weren’t.
