  1. Very true. I do think that his struggle to fit under halls system then JYs is a bigger concern. He got two long hard looks under different systems, and some of the best defensive and db coaching you can find. I get why they’d want to take a look at him. Year on an nfl pr, 2 nfl camps, 2 cfl camps and two years on our pr as one of the best defensive back ends.
  2. Played two games last year and one before that. Pre season to early year he was rough. Improved a little bit but as a guy who is 26 with two full years and camps plus two full nfl training camps and a full year on an nfl pr, is way behind where he should be. Hasn’t really flashed any thing here. both McGhee and bridges were panned from camp and early year. Bridges is also an older guy, about to turn 28 going into year two. But he improved through out his time. Certainly well behind a bunch of guys and got passed by multiple younger less experienced dbs in two years here. Wasted pr spot. I imagine the riders are going for him thinking our dbs shouldn’t be bad through out, and he has lots of experience and time as a pro. But clearly didn’t take a long hard look at his time in. They might want to replicate what we do on the back end more and bringing in our end cuts makes that easier.
  3. Riders grab Tyrique McGhee. He kicked around here for 2 years and didn’t show much kinda glad he’s out of the way for the new batch of guys going into 2025.
  4. I kind of cringe when I see it come out. I never look forward to the schedule release any more. Friday night football is the best. With the schedule I hope for the bad to be minimal but that doesn’t often happen. I never expect much with the cfl schedule any more. Hate mid week games unless it’s a long weekend. Hate 3 games in 9-14 days. Hate when bye weeks aren’t reasonably well spread out. But since 19 the schedules have been really problematic.
  5. lol. Oc announcement for me. I’m not overly concerned about guys we might lose this off season.
  6. Yeah he’s flashed next level game changing play making. With both instincts, athleticism, and tenacity. One play on teams sticks in my head. Where he dove out around a blocker and tied up a returner, who he then finished the tackle on from his knees. Which is really hard to do. He’s a partial beneficiary of the nfls move to smaller more dynamic out side backers, and des. He could make an nfl team based on return play and effort alone. I would really love to see him back and in a full time role next year. I think the step forward he would take is huge. And would position him self for a better nfl shot down the road. I can’t say if ford got a shot down south. But he certainly seems to soak up coaching at a tremendous level. The improvements he made mid season in 24 were tremendous. Same with his rookie year. He stepped up in a huge way from early on to his late year start. I think ayers will take a big step next year be it here or in the nfl. 10 more lean pounds could make him unstoppable as well. Ford I think needs to start. I don’t think he has more to learn from sitting and watching.
  7. I think the market for these no2 QBs will be 200k and under. The one who waits to last probably gets the least. I think it’s going to line up with every team having their qb1, and a solid vet qb2. Which should be interesting.
  8. I thought he was still under contract but looks like he’s expiring and the riders got his negotiating period rights. In that case I think he’s likely to see free agency unless he get a decent offer from the riders. Honestly, I’m not sure what to expect the remaining back up QBs to get money wise. Doesn’t seem like the players have any leverage. But players might be heavily swayed by teams they want to play for a positions that are good for them more than normal. I expect this to be the range for the remaining vet QBs. That’s what I did. I thought he was on a 2 year from last year but I think it was the year before. Still an upgrade for us imo. Though I don’t think we go after him unless he’s interested in vet min.
  9. Quick pick 6 numbers between 1 and 49. No reason why.
  10. Made 473/500 last year. Supposed to be at 453k with his new deal.
  11. Yup. And 340/380k for maccheese. Crazy amount of cap space tied up between he and Harris for the riders.
  12. Riders trace for maccheese. Only a conditional 8th round pick, but if they waited for him to be cut they could’ve saved substantially on his cap hit. Crazy how fast and evenly the qb market is sorting out.
  13. agree. I like the talent but they paid him like he was already who they hope he will become.
  14. Dl are one of the highest paid positions in the league, and he’s alone a top the like of best ni des. But the market is down on dl and D over all. Maybe every position save ol. I get why they paid him that and I’m not surprised he got it. I think we’ve had worse contracts for sure. All that said, I wouldn’t want to be into him for 260/270k. Hes too much of a Joe Fleming type. Dominates in spurts when he gets a great match up. Invisible otherwise. IMO he’s a fair value at 200-230k over a full season.
  15. That will come down to how the cfl comes down on the lions for their 2024 offences against the cap. If it’s a light slap on the wrist again, I expect more of the same. On that note, I wonder how that will work since ambroise is now gone and the league is going to be looking for a replacement.
  16. Yeah pretty much. If Strev comes back, which is a very strong possibility, we are out of the running. I don’t think we will even see a rookie qb in camp at this rate. The only chance is if they leave strevy un signed till he’s healthy and bring in a guy. Maybe some one the new oc likes. But that’s not a great chance of happening. I do like this move as well. Guy has extraordinary upside and raw talent. If he’s coach able at all he’s worth having on the pr.
  17. Wish nik well in his new endeavour. Was a ton of fun to watch play.
  18. I imagine the blue chip guys and QBs get a full salary most of the time yeah. I knew some guys back in the afl who ate at soup kitchens every day and had pb sandwiches for dinner every night. Guys supporting a family back home may well have their family relying on food banks. With the cost of housing and food idk how people do it these days. When I was young and struggled hard 20 bucks went a long way.
  19. Good question, I presume every one was offered the chance since the turn out was soo high. Great insight here. How does it work for us guys, do they pay both sets of taxes or do they get part of the Canadian taxes back? some what true. Thing is, in modern sports you don’t have an off season any more. You can’t just be off fishing and drinking. Maintaining a high level football level of athleticism, and sharp skills is a full time job. Unless you’re Jake Thomas. Canadian linemen get to fish and drink all off season. does the excess count against the cap? I’d be interested to see how often this happens.
  20. A lot of other factors though. Is 70k a livable wage in Vancouver, Toronto or Montreal? How much does an American player take home in usd when earning 70 cad? How many players are supporting their family back home and them self here, is 70k a living wage for two full sets of bills? I hate the actual take home of the average player who starts half the season or less? I don’t have a lot of those answers, but I strongly suspect that the guys making less than 100k aren’t living an easy life. So having quality transpo and free grub is probably very important.
  21. Surest bet of the off season imo who might be in the market? Bc, ssk, then maybe us, Hamilton or Ottawa depending on what other pending back up QBs and these teams do. You’ve got Evan’s, crum, Masoli, strevy, and shiltz. For qb2 roles with, bc, ssk, us, ham and ott. Maybe Calgary jumps up too. Unelss Masoli retires, one of those guys or maier will have to be a qb3 or less. this is also all assuming Toronto keeps arbuckle as qb2. but it looks like for the first time in a long time we are going to see league wide parity with respect to qb depth. I’d put my money with yours.
  22. $&@% you need to do a free agency one now with us getting a bunch of impact guys! Mac cheese I could even see retiring.
  23. It’s really damn sad that’s for sure.
  24. Yep. Some times rookies just need to get acclimatized to 18 game seasons. It’s a real adjustment. Interesting trade. I like it for Montreal. It does consolidate styles styles really well for both. Makes sense to have Fajardo who can atleast run with ford. Bet faj takes over before ldc.
  25. That’s a great point on timing. The fact we lost Ted and haven’t replaced him, and don’t have a top level guy lined up to replace him. ssks bounce back certainly helps. And I think just the general hype machine that is national media.
