  1. With maksymic to Edmonton, landing spots are getting thin for Jackson. Be a damn shame if he didn’t get a job for this year.
  2. Yep. I really like the balance he strikes in terms of size and strength between Cole and jones. Very kyrie esq
  3. Best case scenario (that’s realistic) is we rotate guys up the middle like we used to on the dl. Heavy mix of ayers, Cole, and jones in different packages and situations.
  4. The entire purpose of the regular season is to set up the post season. The only reason the season isn’t shorter is monetary. Drastically less regular season would make the season much better in terms of quality. Shorter post season wouldn’t benefit any thing. You’ve got 3 tiers for quality of season. Missed the play offs, made the play offs but lost in them, and the champion. we can soothe our self with the considerable financial success of the year or the extra games, but in the end we are no different in terms of success than the rest of the teams that lost in the play offs. Nothing wrong with enjoying the team despite them missing the final goal. If the goal posts get moved shorter though, that’s how you end up in situations on the field like Edmonton and Calgary. That’s how you end up with fan bases like the riders and leafs. Oh hey we won ldc and made a good push late in the year, go us! We’re no1!
  5. Also a nuance and ability to be multiple with positions and players that I really like. Like he did with Leake. He sends over a list of candidates, half are just run plays and the other half former RBs like Harris lol. while he’s had some pricy WRs, he’s done a lot with not the best pieces and under some tough circumstances. Big believer in what he can become.
  6. Might be a case that we wanted him, wasn’t gonna be a lot of market for him, rewarded him with the front loaded bonus laden deal that won’t hit us next year. Guys like wj might want to haggle more.
  7. And I think if it’s bourgoin getting the oc, that we will see that. Before bucks overhaul this year we saw a lot of that stuff especially with Lawler and schoen. Zach always had a guy down field in a position he was comfortable with who could break off and gouge the D for a 15-25 gain. But we lost those guys, plus the balance in our schemes to open those seams. Then with us not stretching the field side to side with motion and freezing the second level with pa it just was gone.
  8. It didn’t happen with strev and lapo, and zach has been forced to run check downs and screen based offences. Zach will take his shots, but I don’t think that will be a corner stone for us for certain. New oc can change a lot. At zachs best, he wasn’t chucking over the shoulder ropes to guys streaking down field. He was dissecting Ds with seam busters and deep outs 20 yards down field. That, is what should be a corner stone of our offence with zach at the helm. we didn’t adjust with personnel changes prior though, and we had the WRs to run it out earlier. Zach played a part in it, but the shift we saw to buck the especially in the final year was drastic. Hardly any thing remained from the lapo era. we have been known to hand out surprising over pays to guys taking starters jobs or who we hope would. As recently as last year we gave what 300k+ combined to Kramdi and Lawson. We paid rose bank well after his down turn. We been handing starters money to Augustine. Meanwhile we low balled grant twice. We are a bit unpredictable with paying our own guys. I hope this means biggie/kyrie are done here. I also hope it was a reasonable deal. Further more, I hope jones takes a long hard look at film and does a better job getting back to his spots in pass plays. Or has his snaps limited in those situations.
  9. I mean Jackson had that elk offence topping the league under jones when he could focus on just the O. He’s been at it long enough he should be expected to to succeed right away. Don’t agree. The offence changed soo much from lapo to under buck. It’ll depend on how much input zach gets, and how much the new oc works to counter zachs weaknesses. 100%. I’m happier for Ted to get this shot, soo long over due, than I am sore for our loss. It is a great loss but he deserves this soo much. The league is better off with guys like Ted running foot ball ops than some of the rabble we’ve seen. We need shaking up, no way we replace him and improve though. Very much the end of an era. Hopefully we are looking at the mafia going into godfather 2 territory not 3, but it feels like godfather 3. Not a lot of volume in firsts lately. But we’ve killed it in rounds 2-4.
  10. Never rains but it pours. Thrilled for Ted though. Great guy well deserving. Dobson. Bc loves our fa ol lol.
  11. Costello is an A++ ast. For my money, ol coach is the hardest positional coach to find and develop too. We had the great foresight to have Costello work under bob wylie so we had the next man up. That almost never happens. Bourgoin a strong B+ and could be even better. He’s even more of a disciple of lapo than buck. They go back to the 90s. A big part of his value is he can do multiple jobs and excel at it. Pass game co, coach RBs WRs more than one job at a time too.
  12. My concern would be he runs a lot of rpo’s, his offences tend to chuck at absurd rate and isn’t the best at maintaining the run. Which all plays into zachs weaknesses. I think khari as qb coach or assistant to another oc is a great asset though. I just think you need to support him to keep from devolving into what we saw in bc and mtl.
  13. It’ll be interesting to see who buck gets to work his staff. Will he clean house or bring back most of the bc guys. will he go after Bourgoin if we don’t promote to oc? Or Costello? That’s my primary concern. I wonder if he digs up nichols or some one similar to ast. If he’s smart he will insulate himself with great coaches and focus on being a hc not be hc/oc/qb coach I hadn’t thought about the strevy package but that is great news Hope he gets a bump any way. If we got Bourgoin as oc, bump Costello to run game co, and bring in a qb coach with oc experience that’s the best case for us imo with internal promos. Bringing in an experienced oc, then bumping bourgoins to qb coach and Marty to running game coach would be the best of all worlds.
  14. Happy to hear it, wish him well. Not a big surprise, he is a really good positional coach. all he’s done every year in both roles here is succeed. Personally I hope they give Costello an ast co or run game co type promo as well. Hes the one I least want to lose. The adjustment to oc especially at a high level is one of the hardest though. I’ll be interested to hear him talk and see what kind of scheme he will run. Personally I would’ve gone with fresh blood. But I do like bourgoin. He does have plenty of potential. And he was the rb coach during our heaviest run years. Who we bring in as qb coach will be very interesting as well. If we bring in a guy with oc experience who can help guide Bourgoin that will be huge. Khari, Jackson, who ever. He was our rb coach during the Harris era, and switched to wr coach in 21.
  15. They said it like this was news, but didn’t they narrow it down to that group last week? Just doesn’t make sense. If maksymic is the guy, why are you looking at an oc for the hc job from another team? How can you promote a guy whose offence got worse with more talent, couldn’t make it work with either qb, got worse when it counted and hasn’t been able to get the O to live up to expectations in the play offs. I wouldn’t want to hire buck either, but it’s no comparison between the 3 candidates. A guy who has been failing down at easier jobs for years now, a guy who has had his offences get worse each year for a while, and the best mix of experience and success. Really the biggest thing bc needs is a culture reset. Buck is the only option that can do that for them.
  16. 3 great years here. We’ve had similar stretches from a bunch of other lbers over the years who didn’t go up. Bout a mile behind Tyrone jones. Bighills best years are all with the lions it’s not even close. Yep battle too. Biggie isn’t the best lber, best front 7 guy even among guys who aren’t in yet. He wasn’t the best defensive player in his time here. He was behind Willy and ba early, then guys like Nichols lately.
  17. I agree wade has the strongest single case. I like the idea of all 3 going up together. I don’t think biggie goes up in any hurry if at all. He’s behind others atleast one big one on D. Brady could end up the most prolific Canadian back in history in a couple years.
  18. I think the question is do all 3 mafioso go up? What wade has done for grass roots, and for involving kids/people in remote communities alone is hof worthy. What he’s done financially, creating a winning culture, and a long line of highly successful front office types to coaches is extraordinary. Walters with the player management side, scouting, resigning is an exceptional candidate as well.
  19. Oh for sure. It’s served every purpose for players. Hasn’t benefited any of the ways it was supposed to for teams. Like walters said no one is willing to take cuts after disappointing years but every one wants a raise for doing the same. Hasn’t given us more player movement and teams the ability to change their fortune in one off season.
  20. It’s funny that despite 1 year deals and massive roster turnover after each season we don’t actually see most of the best FAs hit free agency.
  21. Wasn’t the best qb on 2nd worst team in the league. Which was the worst for a big chunk of the year, and their offence got worse in every way after he came in. Id take him as at a cheap price as qb3 but not more than that. This off season is filled with guys who are gonna be settling for qb2 roles, he isn’t even the best in that group. Realistically he isn’t in the top 30 free agents.
  22. Unless Hamilton ends up axing Milanovich with a new gm.
  23. the same group of players has been torn on if the top half of the stamps them self are reputable or not. Mos, was also a hof on the short list of best Canadian players of all time. A lot of the hiring of a hc is based on interviews, and how your own character check into their background goes. Not saying he’s a bad hire, not sure there is a hc I’d get really excited about bringing in for any team this year. But a project hc for a team that has been every shade of bad for many years is not encouraging. Especially when they were almost a play off team after the ejection of jones. This move means another group that comes in and clears out old players and tries to start from scratch. Instead of building off what they had. But also when claybrooks got his job imo. Every time an established co get a hc job people celebrate.
