  1. It’s not about motivation. You can’t motivate pro players these days. The dynamic just isn’t like that any more. Preparation is about film study, finding opportunities, then applying tactics to accomplish your strategy. Players are a part of that film study, on the back end. The coaches find the opportunities and bring in the tactics. Some players, guys like Willy, will do more of that. But it’s just not gonna happen players up. Especially in the cfl, especially with 20 some thing imports. Down south you’d see a guy like von miller back in the day heavily involved in that process, but even in the nfl that’s an outlier case. Position coaches have the film prepped and come in with the plan. It’s their job to have a plan for the start of positional meetings. Players will help shape that more or less. But it’s coaching to get them into position to succeed. We wouldn’t have won. We were losing the field position battle and couldn’t sustain drives at any point. Even with the lead we were sliding into a loss. Go look at any high end football coach talk about prep and execution. Watch Seattle’s coaches talk and coach tackling in the legion of boom era. It’s crystal clear. It’s all coaching. If one guy fails to execute you can blame a player once or twice. When multiple group sets fail repeatedly you only have coaching to look at. How many times this year did Wr struggle to execute? many times in the past 2 years has zach struggled to execute? Look at the calibre of wr we have. 3 healthy guys capable of 1k plus. It’s not a coincidence that players repeatedly struggle to execute in multiples at the same positions. It’s coaching. Honestly in the NIL era you don’t even / can’t motivate kids in D1 much any more. Coaching is all prep, execution, installing tactics and strategy, leading with character. Coaching isn’t what it used to be, people have Ill conceived notions of what it used to be and now that is just way way off from reality.
  2. I really think we have a chance to see change on the offence. Buck coming down to the side line, the clear frustration zach had many times this and last year, seeing mos make offensive calls at times, I think we will pull the trigger. I just can’t see them running it back with buck and zach. I’ve been fooled before but the signs are strong.
  3. Right? I want a 100% old school throw back for alts, no more racing stripe shoulders, and the regular line up of tops n pants.
  4. Don’t agree at all that it’s 95/5. Defence did enough to win. Players and coaches. teams, coaching wasn’t an issue. Lucky was 95% of the problem on teams. on offence, boy it is an ugly mess. The ol did what they had to do and so did Brady. Wrs, qb, and buck were all horrible. Wrs got worse with the game, so I put more blame on zach. But buck was worse than zach. He didn’t have a game plan that put us in a position to succeed. It was all damn the run (12 minutes with out a run nearly to start) chuck it deep. And he didn’t lift till late. even when he lifted he went back to the same thing in the 2nd half. We didn’t run 1 jet sweep. We didn’t run 1 rpo rolling screen. We didn’t run the signature concepts that zach Demski and lawler excelled on like flag, dagger, j/o, p/o, end zone etc. we didn’t use any counter, trap, wide or outside zone. We saw one rocket concept play, and none of the mesh that was sprinkled in mid season. We also ran 0 hurry up sets. Pace used to be a hallmark of our offence, we’d get a favourable miss match of personnel then hammer teams with hurry up. We can barely get the huddle broke with 10-12 seconds left. Toronto ran hurry up frequently and frequently broke the huddle as play was whistled in. Early this year we had to run from the huddle to the line and snap it because the play was soo slow coming in. (You can see zachs speed up hand motion to buck on the side line in the huddle) A big red flag for our offence is when we have more incompletions than Brady runs. This could be a running problem if Brady is getting 3-4 a pop. But when he’s getting 8-10 with a big run and 5-6 on average it’s a play call problem. When we go big chunks of time between runs and throw a lot of incompletions, we kill drives. It’s the ocs job to adjust to the situation and D. If you’re going 2 and out, get that good gain on first then use easy catch and run completions to get the offence going. Use play action and motion to keep the defence honest. We made no adjustments or attempts to counter Toronto or our weaknesses the whole game. if buck did his job, when zach got hurt we’d a had a comfortable lead. Zach didn’t put him self back out and keep him self in. That’s coaching. Blame doesn’t split normally. Really every one with fault in the loss gets 100%. But if you want to split it, buck gets 70% the WRs and zach split the rest. Mos shares blame with buck. The week of the game is spent doing install which includes the first 10 ish plays on offence being prepared. After 2 or so it’s if this then run that. Our plan was just to beat torontos corners deep and try to blow them out early. We had no back up. We had no pivot plan. Some people have been in those rooms, others have only been in chat rooms. Most people on here have no idea the work that is put in doing prep for a game, or how big a play book with all the install packages is. If you haven’t seen any of that, dunning-Krueger likely has you in its grip.
  5. I dont think that happens any time soon. I think we got a couple years. Plus if buck leaves it gives him the opportunity to become ast hc in a year or two. I fully believe he will continue to hone his craft as a dc and not rush. Hubert dropped off hard for several games before getting parked on the pr. He looked to hit the wall to me. I was surprised he didn’t get a shot to come off though.
  6. Agree. One maybe two first downs away from a fg too.
  7. We had 8 drives with no runs, not including the last or keeling at the half. 4 2 and outs 2 picks. That’s out of 13 total drives (again with out the final drive of the half and Game for us) We didn’t run till just before the 3 minute mark of the first half. A big part of continually going 2 and out was not running. We had 1 pick on 2nd down after a run, and 2 2 n outs. On the 2 and outs we gained 5 yards on the ground on first down and threw incompletions after on 2nd down. We went 2 and out because we didn’t run, and couldn’t string together completions. A part of not being able to string together completions is not running which means you can’t use play action.
  8. Yeah I wouldn’t want to jump ship on collaros till we have the next guy lined up and signed. Kelly is a solid tackler, he had one big hit this year but I don’t think he’s a hitter. If we flip the ratio at S we wouldn’t need another ni dt. We’d take an imp off for an ni which could allow us to throw in an imp db for Kelly some times. Though I think Hubert helps. I’d also keep both back up ni dts in camp for next year. Wouldn’t hurt to draft another but that’s pretty solid depth. I think we will pay ford well and I think he will want to stay in JYs system. Teams may come for him, but it took time to get used to the system I don’t think he’d want to risk how other teams play.
  9. Thanks. Is that before the renegotiation of his deal? Idk how that might’ve shifted his numbers around if not. But it’s a lot better than 600k with 350-450k guaranteed that I thought he had. We could find that for 6 bucks or 3 Burger King coupons.
  10. You know his finger looked way worse than just cut. In middle school I actually tore a bunch of skin on the side my index finger playing flag football. (Old rusty buckle bit me when diving for a flag) and as it happened I was playing qb. It’s a mess for sure to throw like that. But zachs finger didn’t look like it was just tore up. It looked badly busted. That clear pain he was in when throwing didn’t look like stitches under a glove. It looked like serious pain. I bet he broke the crap outta that finger. I love the heart to keep trying and to try deep with that. But damn some ones gotta save players from them self. Qft. I would’ve put in the dole, just because of experience. He’s been here long enough to understand the weeks install. But Wilson looked surprisingly competent.
  11. Sink cost fallacy is a good way to look at it. I thought zach has more than 250 guaranteed? It’s a grey cup hosting year after the last 3, salary cap be damned. If ever there was a time to open the vault and take punishment at the end of the year this is it. Probably still won’t be as bad as what bc did this year any way. Idk if he’s matured a lot or not. He has done and said all the right things since he went to bc. Might be real might not. He’s talented, but he’s not the fit I’d want game wise.
  12. A chance? Yes. Do we have a way to control our destiny and take that game? I don’t think so. D did what it had to. I think they’ll be even better next year.
  13. Agree with most of that. I’d keep Lofton, especially if Bryant retires. If not, unless we get a premiere tackle I bring him back and have him actually fight for the spot. He did improve, and he’d be better at guard. I’d bring schmekel back for camp depth and try to flip him to be more of a versatile big. If we could go to 6ol, and use schmekel as the 7th blocker, a teams guys, and a back up dl that’d be great. Especially with carrying mci, feltmate, woli and big kev. Feltmate is excellent on teams and a tough body to account for in heavy sets. So is mci and honestly big kev. But bringing 7 ol 2 fbs and a big wr is a lot of roster usage for not a lot of reusable depth.
  14. The best they can hope for is us losing lol.
  15. Might be right. Might also be pr numbers issue. I think we were at the limit. Personally I’d bet on him being back. Didn’t Schemekel end on the pr last year? Idr.
  16. I think it’s just because he hit the wall hard. I fully expect him to be brought back for next year. Iirc the rookie drafted contract holds up if ending on the pr. They aren’t auto released like vets and imps. Might be wrong, but even in that case I think they bring him back. Agree, I think Kase is shifty and could be dangerous but he looked real raw. Bridges improved a bunch over his looks. I definitely think he’s a project guy for us. Which we’ve done fairly well with in the past.
  17. Yep. If any thing the offense has devolved. As has the challenge usage. Teams got better just from some tweaks to cover type this year. But we don’t do any thing special or great. For the Dl, if we flip ratio else where and use Lawson in a rotation with mostly Americans I think it’ll work. But at that point we need better range from lbers. Jones is good in the tackle box vs the run but not in coverage. I would prefer to go out and get an elite pass rusher in free agency to play opposite wj, and return to a 40 front with the 30 being a situational thing. It’s a great package but shouldn’t be our base.
  18. Not grabbing sheed was a big mistake. Along with the whole de fiasco, Jake the fat man, kr, and the lack of tackles. I hope, Walter’s n co learns from all that. Funny thing is, most used to bring a lot more creativity to schemes. Winning has made him ultra conservative.
  19. Not every one will be ready for this and that’s understandable. But we will definitely need a shot of positivity around here this off season. With that in mind here are some things I look forward to with the bombers in a positive light only. Terry Wilson. I was extremely impressed by how poised and in control he was when he came in. Stepped up in the pocket, kept his eyes down field when pressured and threw with authority. He has Great arm talent, and athleticism. But the mental side of him looks legit too. I look forward to seeing him progress next year. another Canadian draft. We really cleaned up in this last draft, which was a strong draft to be fair. So I don’t expect us to replicate that success, but adding another piece or two to the AR will be huge for our NI depth. On that note, our rookie Canadians did better than I expected this year. I can’t wait to see big kev with another tc under his belt, think Wallace will be poised to take a starting spot next year, mci came a very long way as a blocker too. I hope to see a good chunk of pre season reps for mci to play rb so we can see what he has and let him develop. He went from a guy out of place on an AR to a solid FB in one season and that’s pretty good. Kelly, I think he has a sneaky good chance of becoming our starting S next year. Imagine 3 starting Canadian dbs? Never thought I’d see that on a good team. tyjuan garbutt really turned a corner late. He isn’t the instant dominant pass rusher we need, but he’s a damn good two way end who plays with discipline. Imo he’d be excellent as a di rotational back up next year. Ayers and Cole. I’d love to see more of Ayers at mac and Cole at wil. Both guys are monsters on teams just scratching at their potential but are still a lot of fun to watch. Devin adams. Such an incredible athlete and raw talent. Gonna be awesome to watch him in his first full camp. Woods. Our best dl for my money all year. Guys a beast who can play a bunch of inside positions and some edge especially in the 30 front. Only 25 years old and the sky is the limit. can lawson and schoen the return. Nuff said. Love what both these guys bring. Owen Hubert. Really over achieved early. Hit the rookie wall hard. But showed a ton of lunch box type stuff that could make him a very valuable rotational piece next year. The majority of the secondary as well. Holm and Kramdi stepped up big, griffin and bonds were excellent Nichols was my modp for us and ford legit would’ve been moc in the league most years. How do you improve on that? Well Nichols is the only guy at 30. So another year could bring improvement for each of those guys. JY. Through some early struggles he really turned a rag tag group of guys into an elite pass defence. I can’t imagine what more he has in store with a year of growth and prep.
  20. Yep. The real strength of the wr core last year was the balance. Demski and lawler didn’t need to be no 1 with schoen healthy. Plus having sheed and woli to fall back on was a huge comfort. Demski and lawler could miss if not healthy or if they had a tough game it was fine. But with the 2 safety measures gone and the true no1 out as well we see lawler is best as robin on a contender. Demski will be back and be fine I’m sure. So long as schoen and the no1 slot is sorted.
  21. It’s as much the fact that he has long been prone to making bone headed mistakes, drops and fumbles especially at bad times. Yeah he was banged up bad and shouldn’t have kept playing. Our coaches should’ve had a back up for him. He will be back and we will love him next year as soon as he busts a big one. Wilson came in and looked like he had a laser rocket launcher for an arm after zachs tosses. Hes got a good arm and excellent arm talent. But it isn’t that big. Grainger had a bigger arm. I think zach deteriorated that much. I don’t think he’s been 100% at any point this year. But I also don’t know if he ever would be again. And mentally, I think he’s in that broken Roughrider/ticat end era mode.
  22. 🤢 I have to think Lawson takes a lot of snaps next year. Garbutt Lawson woods wj would look really good.
  23. The last 4 runs were garbage time the first 9 was the game with in a few points both ways. Brady had two short runs rest were putting us in 2nd and short. I think we could’ve run almost any other game plan and done better tbh. Play action screen to Brady, pin and pull, name it.
  24. If you can run 9 times for 10 yards a pop, you can run 20 times in the game. I don’t think fixing the ol will be easy. I’d start by flipping an imp at G though.
