  1. It isn't that simple with coaching. Creating a game plan, installing the weeks playbook, the play call, and in game adjustments aren't just about what the other team is doing / wants to do. It's equally about putting your guys in a position to succeed. It is 100% the coaches job to prep the players for who they are facing on a personnel match up level as well. You see "blown coverage", but what you don't see is a DB not knowing how to defend a jump step at the line, or understanding wr tendencies that tips fake cuts, double moves etc. You see an errant throw, but don't see the route concept being messed up because multiple WRs cant run or cut hard. Preparation and execution especially on a team or unit level are 100% dictated by coaching. Tackling for instance is a direct result of discipline enforced by the coaching staff. Slack discipline means arm tackles, selling out for hits etc. Tight discipline and prep means guys are flying to the ball, gang tackling, and wrapping up. Physicality is one of the biggest signs of how well prepared a team is, 19 gc we blew hamilton off the ball in all 3 phases of the game with our physicality. The last two years we've been beat physically by mtl and tor. That is the difference between players running week of walk throughs and having total control of the locker room and culture vs coaches. Look at any team that makes a coaching change in season. Look at the previous week then the weeks after. You see the same players and an immediate change in preparation level and execution. Because it stems from a coaching staff leading their team. Early tenure they get it easily, late on they struggle. But it is a coaches job at each level to run preparation each week.
  2. Toronto any thing isn’t strong for the cfl. Toronto bc would not be a good tv draw. I think Montreal, plus one of bc ssk and Winnipeg all make for strong support, draw and views. For the best game I think it comes down to wpg or bc vs Mtl. With the edge to us. Fact is, many around the country cheer for us to lose. We will bring in hate viewers.
  3. Fair question and a tough one. But biggie was also playing in hospital mode and not alone. Thing is, I think any one of 3 primary coaching issues if changed, alone win it for us. At that point, I don’t think it matters which one is greater. As I broke down previously, I don’t think zach has had 1 really good game in the playoffs. And yeah, that really really hurts.
  4. It’s certainly not the only factor. I think you can fairly compare being out coached in game plan and adjustments/play call to roster management. As well as player readiness and execution, which is a good part coaching as well. You’re right too that in several roles we’ve simply not played at the level you’d expect. Wj, zach, and a bunch of other guys haven’t lived up to their own standards. With good to great coaching you don’t see that as much but it still happens. we largely put prep out side of film and playbook install on the locker room. When that fails, the blame has to be split. When it happens repeatedly, it’s much more on coaching.
  5. “Luck is the residue of hard work” an unemployed guy in the north west with a ratty hoody and 8 Super Bowl rings. Oh god you’re gonna make me say roster management.meme 🤣 soo true though, we came soo close while dressing walking corpses, dressing guys and not using them, plus scratching guys that would’ve actually been useful. How many times I wonder have we DI’d a guy and not given him one snap? A scary number that’s for sure.
  6. Yeah person not player! Yup. If we are going imp at S and not going with Cole, Taylor makes the most sense then nichols. One guy out of position rather than multiple guys. Taylor is basically Holms upside, but Taylor has this dynamic play making ability. You watch him play and you can totally see how he’d was such a good basketball player, and would likely succeed at any athletic endeavour. When’s the last time we had soo many dl who are back up punter/kickers? The 30s? I want to say in his younger days that Jake Thomas was also a back up k/p. Think it was talked about when lankford had to do some duty for us in a pinch.
  7. No joke, he might get whiplash. Wonder if we are moving guys to the ir this week. Some interesting moves to the ar already like player.
  8. I’ve got no concerns with nichols at S. He would excel there.
  9. Reffing in the cfl has never been a bigger joke. It’s sad. thats true, and that’s true of zach, brown vaj, and rourke. The thing is to be a mop, or a hof you have to be consistent with the mop games. None of the QBs in the league are any kind of consistent. Prior to 19, we had Reilly and blm in the elite tier of QBs. And we had less consistent guys like zach, Harris, and nichols a tier below. For two years zach was top tier. Right now, every qb is 2nd tier and lower. Which with the hash change is sad.
  10. Record, goes to the team. What was Matt nichols record as a starter? Fajardo has for starters. Also mbt before his edm return. yards and tds are atleast heavily attributable to the QBs play. Wins can be, and can not be. Who has been the best qb in the league this year? It’s all shades of crap tbh. And Kelly still isn’t the top guy. strevy got a gc ring in two seasons too. Neither one started or played the first 90% of the gc though. He isn’t though. If he maintains the same level of play he does now, sub elite tier he will not be on track for the hof. He’s behind Fajardo. And I don’t think he’s on track for a hof spot either.
  11. He’s not on track for the hof. he’s been good, but he’s in the same tier as virtually every starting tier qb in the cfl. 6800 yards 35 tds 23 ints in 26 games. 7200 yards 32 tds 20 ints in fajardos first two years as a starter. Ricky ray had almost 8k 59 and 22. And that was splitting games with maas his first year. 2nd and 3rd year are 10k+ 60 37. Printers in less than his first 20 starts had 6700 44 and 16 with 800 rushing yards and 11 tds on the ground. Nealon Greene put up 5k 36 18 with 1600 rush yards and 6 rushing tds in 26.
  12. Idk how pissed they’ll be tbh. They coasted hard into this game, might be pissed might be sleep walking. I hope they bring it and we have a good hard game that elevates the level of play going into the play offs.
  13. Yep. I think it’s a better statement to his talent that he got a long term 2nd cfl look off camp/pre season with out regular season action. Not many guys get that look any more. We’ve also done pretty well scooping guys like this at lber and on D in general. I could see him getting a look in the last game to evaluate who would be better to carry between he and notree, especially if ayers isn’t gonna be back. I am glad they are bolstering our depth at the key di spots with the injuries we have. I also wouldn’t be stunned if he’s just here for depth and to push the guys we have at lber.
  14. Correlation is not causation. Flutie was a beast that could carry any team. Kelly has been a long for the ride half the time.
  15. Yeah he’s got great strength, especially for a guy under 220. That ability to explode and get off a block has been sorely missing for a while here though some of the other young guys have flashed it. I think this is/will be the new prototype for lbers in the cfl. Just as sams have been becoming bigger guys 205-215 who can play in the box, wils are becoming rotational or interchangeable. I think even macs will evolve to be more guys like ayers/cole. Who can drop into cover, pass rush, get off a block, and scrape side line to side line. I don’t recall the last time we held the team back for the bye week. It’s a great move, and I like that they mixed in team building stuff but also had a practice.
  16. Like grabbing bright. Fits the mold of our compact, strong, athletic lbers with a good nose for the play and great physicality. https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/stats/Cam-Bright-LB-Pittsburgh
  17. What a strange choice. He did play a bit last year atleast but he’s in the zach - big stan age range. Dbs are pretty turn key to bring in. Though mcghee isn’t the answer to any roster question. Kelly was fully solid for ba though. And flashed some great potential. Maybe they want to keep Kelly on the bench in case ford or Kramdi get hurt though so it doesn’t cascade us into ratio issues. Maybe they are worried about griffin? Though nichols and bonds did get briefly dinged up too. So maybe they just want a known depth piece in case any one goes down. Could also reflect on ayers ability to get healthy because they’ve used Cole at S, Sam, and coverage pack wil. Bridges has been much improved after his first 2 games or so. Makes me wonder about Parker too. Dude is good but they didn’t want him for a bit when healthy before, and he’s basically played 1 regular season and play offs worth of games since the start of 2022.
  18. Oh man the feterik fiasco. The gliebermen west
  19. I think existing health is gonna be a big question mark. Big Stan’s scare was a big deal. Neuf was atrocious before ir time. And I’m convinced zach has lingering throwing hand issues. Some times he struggles soo much to get the ball out cleanly, no matter position or protection. I think the highest risk to retire of guys starting next week is neuf and lowest is Jake. They could all be back, but the cup motivation after 2 wins and 4 straight appearances is diminished imo. If we win this year it’s even more so. I could actually see woli calling it a career in the off season too. I see him wanting the highest quality of life in his post football era.
  20. The stamps were killing the drafts in those days not to mention rookie recruitment. They couldn’t miss for a while.
  21. Agree with that. We have actually just not all in the off season. Sts and dc. Jj, grant, biggie, kyrie, sheed, and hardrick. I do not think money is a primary motivating factor for zach. I do not think he wants to be hauled off the field or end on a concussion. If the ol lost Bryant and neuf, or if we moved on from either star wr, I think he’d be strongly swayed towards retiring. Also if buck leaves I think the chances go up. Keep in mind he’s been on a starters pay for 10 seasons. If he’s averaged 500k salary per year that’s 5 mil. I don’t think he has to make decisions based on the financials. glad to hear that. We need the pissed off motivated offence. Zach isn’t normally that kind of leader, for him to bust out that you know he’s fired up.
  22. The guys who need to retire who are injured are done imo. Ba, kyrie, biggie will all pack it in imo. I’d be stunned if any got a deal and came back. Jake turns 34 this year, and I think the only chance we are actually rid of him is if the wear n tear convince him to move on, unfortunately. Neuf probably should but probably won’t unless he’s really hurt. His career likely ends being carted off the field. Zach, I think retires if we win or if he is putrid in the play offs, or if ol retire. Hes been taking a lot more hits the last almost 2 seasons. And he will be 37 next year. Bryant, maybe the health scare prompts him to call it, other wise honestly he can do what ever. He’s still easily good enough to start. Demski Willy and kola aren’t gonna retire. And we aren’t moving on from the guys who don’t retire. Coaching wise, the only chances at major changes is buck getting a hc job (he shouldn’t) or if hall decides to retire (don’t think he will.) other wise I think we bring in a qb coach / offensive qc to support buck, and reshuffle the D coaches. Maybe bring in a new front 6 coach.
  23. Last loss the week after a bye looks like Montreal week 15 in 2019. Like 11 straight wins in games after bye. Falling to 2nd after the win streak would be pretty catastrophic. Idk what it would take to see greater change than what we will see due to age and young guys stepping up.
