At this point, unless some thing drastic happens I expect ssk to hand us our asses. Unfortunately, we are no longer the standard bearers for success either in the league or west.

I watched the interview and they did talk in general about the multiple situations and he talked about making the same call with zach who also threw a td. He really just chalks it up to poor execution and accuracy on the throws. Parts of it are better than it sounds, but parts are worse. I don’t think he gets that the co and hc are responsible for creating execution through preparation and practice. I think his defence of strevys play is not great either. Clearly Chris is struggling to act quickly. Be it getting the ball out of his hands, rpo, run option or when pressured. He really harps on being right in his play call. Says he is hard on him self in review and hindsight. Seems really singular minded. Which matches what I’ve seen from his play call so far. If he thinks he’s right even if it isn’t working, he’s gonna keep doing the same thing. Watching JYs interview it’s easy to see the difference and why his D has bounced back and found ways to excel. And why Hogan hasn’t. I was disappointed with hogan but happy we got Jackson. Try to hope for the best and give him the benefit of the doubt. But damn, I’m worried about him as OC. Even with Jackson, he doesn’t seem ready. His complete lack of experience with being an OC at any real level is a lot to over come.

Yep. And most did it a bit too the previous week. Mafia attitude towards strevy has shifted hard. Getting to the point that it’s hard to imagine him coming back after his deal is up. If that’s how they deal with it to the media, how are they dealing with him behind closed doors? Agree. Don’t think we’d a done that in years prior either.

Soo many times we have chosen to be passive and not played for the win or the kill shot. How we ended up dead set on it in that spot is worrying. It screams of insecurity. trying to steal the win because they don’t think we can secure it with a controlled ball control/clock killing drive.

Brady has been effective, but yeah, better interior play would help. And primarily around the C spot. -

Our offence with either qb struggles to deal with pressure. We don’t set up well for timing deep shots (we need 5+ second pockets) and we don’t have good quick passing plays. We don’t even attack the mid depth of 15-25 well. Outs, crossers, and hooks, with all the targets in the same relative level of depth across the field. over and over again. Defences don’t even get out of their back pedal. They sit and read the qb and rally to the ball, which is constantly short of first down yardage any way. -
https://3downnation.com/2025/08/04/winnipeg-oc-jason-hogan-defends-play-call-blames-misplaced-throw-for-late-game-interception/ Seems like strevy is the scape goat for hogan and the mafia. Which I mean, he’s part of the problem. But our offense was a problem with a healthy wr core, with zach and with a healthy ol. Kinda wild to me. Play call, qbing and wr core have all been close to equal in terms of being problematic. We’ve gone through a bunch of ol, wrs and 2 QBs. But play call isn’t a problem. We can’t beat man, zone, teams dropping guys or teams running blitz heavy schemes. When that’s the case with two different QBs the oc has to take some blame. Funny thing is, since hogan is new and fresh no one would blame him if he said hey yeah that was me. Thought we had some thing and they countered it well. People expect growing pains with new ocs. He could’ve been a leader and taken pressure off his qb. Instead, he passed all the blame. He’s either gonna learn real quick from that, or have a real limited career as an oc.

Can confirm rapture has happened because Mitchell is playing slot. Parker on crutches, no Kramdi, schoen running sprints off to the side on his own. all this from and thanks to DT.

Peyton Logan dressed too

accurate. Jackson had his offence running well with mbt, but couldn’t win or compete to save his life with him. RD wins with all his QBs. Guys a great coach I give it up to him. Looks like Mitchell is with the first team to start today, and zach back at practice

Yeah interesting move. I don’t know that they look at him as a T project either. Elite run blocker, if he picks things up fast we might go back to 3 imp ol. This move smacks of wanting an imp guard. -

Being pushed isn’t just for a psychological boost. You’re right that Strev doesn’t need that. Bailey was far more of a self motivated competitor, but he still needed rosey to come into the pr and raise the level of play required to keep a spot in the wr core. He went from dropping a massive amount of balls and playing poorly to playing his best ball. He needs to be challenged for his spot, he needs to make better decisions and be faster in his decision making. When zachs out, strev is the default. Even when zach is healthy we need competition where the best player plays. Nearly all players are better through competition. If you look at weight divisions that are the best and are the highest level, it’s because you have many guys pushing the level of play up. Fact is, Strev played his best game in game 1, and has been significantly worse since then. When your calibre of play drops that bad continually, you need competition and to be pushed. We need to address the offence at every single level and position other than rb. Qb, wr, ol, coaching and game plan. It all stinks. If we had one improved, that would help the rest, but none of them are good enough even if the others were optimal. -
I hate seeing back ups come in mid game. With prep I don’t worry as much. Though we could now call that the argonaut effect.
-
Psst, in the cfl, the real season starts on LD. We’ve seen red hot starts from them and bc before with poor stretch runs.

I hate all the repeat games in the first part or the year. If vaj is out, I like our chances. If he plays it’ll be a tough game for us to win.

Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread

I hope so, but I don’t think he will. I think his talent is top tier, but his polish needs a lot of work and time. Not a great investment for them unless they really love his intangibles and coaching/locker room fit. That’s the best case for us imo. Have him in camp next year with a year of nfl coaching. Other wise I’d alternate him n chase on the ir to keep both around. -
I get that, but here is why it isn't just hate from me. 1, they've been beating up on teams like that, Montreal with no rb or qb. 2, They have the 2nd most points in the league, but their offense is mid-pack for TDS and bottom tier for FGs. 3, they have bad teams' cover play with unreliable k/p. 4, Their O is mid-pack in first downs, and their D is bottom tier in giving up among the most. 5, Their D is in the bottom tier for giving up TD drives, and only slightly better at forcing turnovers. 6, Discipline. They are the most penalized team in the league once again. 7, They are reliant on a bunch of old guys who have been pretty healthy so far. Harris, Micah, Rose, Hardrick, etc. McEwen and some WRs have been banged up. But in a league where every QB is hurt, and you have an old guy in Harris who's been healthy, it is just a matter of time until an injury hits that hurts their roster. 8, Ssk, is squeezing out a lot of close wins over banged-up teams. Finally, coaching. I think Mace is along for the ride on that roster. He's a good defensive coach, but he isn't the leader capable of getting that team to play disciplined, smart ball. They have a well-rounded offence, with a very good OL. It has the highest yards per play and the most big plays. They also have the best pressure front in the league. They are a good team. But they are a team that is peaking in the first 1/3 of the season. It is extremely rare, especially in the West, for that to pan out long-term. Montreal and Toronto are going to get a lot better when they get QBs back. Hamilton is already better. The riders probably have the best chance in the West of being a good team for an extended period of time. If Harris keeps playing. But I think they are a coaching change away from being a real GC contender.
-
Don’t you put that evil on me Ricky Bobby! Seriously though if it happens now it’s your fault lol. I don’t think the riders will be real competition for the cup. Calgary is the team out of the west. They got the D, the qb, the rb, WRs if they get healthy, and the brain trust. healthy Montreal and Toronto with Kelly out of the east too. Ssk is winning with smoke and mirrors, and so are we at this point.

I’m talking talent brought into camp. We had a really good wr crop but also had schoen lawler etc. lber last year was very good but also blocked this time by biggie and kyrie. Garbutt isn’t a dt. Fox has been the best inside run stopper in the league. Guys are not talentless amorphous blobs of nothing until suddenly they produce and become some thing. You may not like guys or see the talent, doesn’t mean it isn’t there. -

That’s a large part of it for sure. And it’s much easier to fix the rest than fix qbing. I think we need to take swings at fixing each level of issue though. For atleast boosting internal competition level. -

For sure. I love his nose for making plays, great instincts and motor. -
No one’s saying he isn’t great. But he’s basically retired and writing fluff pieces (of great quality to be fair) and has been in booster mode for years. Irving go into the same deal before he retired.

Sad isn’t it. We’ve fallen to a qbing level below post injury Matt nichols. Arbuckle would be an upgrade for us. Hes had no running game and a worse ol yet still done more. -

I’d argue Zach is more limited. If he isn’t connecting on bombs consistently, which has only happened once this year and 2-3 times in the last year and a half, he can’t run any offence. We see his yards per attempt plummet to the depths. Atleast strevy is capable of running designed fast tempo timing stuff. He just isn’t capable of improving if that first look isn’t good. Zach needs big guys who can dominate 50/50 tosses down field. Strevy can succeed with a wider variety of wr types. It’s a bad position though, we don’t have the pieces or the system to support either. -

It’s a cyclical problem. We don’t recruit as well as during an all time run of talent, we ride too long with old guys soo we don’t develop the talent we do bring in, and the level of play devolves very quickly. You aren’t going to have a generational talent gap very often. But you should expect a top front office to find more turn key gems. IMO, we’ve seen some tremendous talent the last 3 camps at dt, lber, wr, rb, and db. We’ve also had 2 excellent drafts in a row. The job we’ve done in recognizing, and developing those guys while optimizing rosters is poor. The quality of job we’ve done at bringing in league vets at spots we don’t recruit well, and replacing top talent is also poor. I’ll note, the wr talent the last two years has been much worse in camp. Prior to that we had some very good wr groups.
