  1. Jake is the measuring rod for bad roster management. The navy seal was a 1.5 Jake’s below replacement player. Johnson is a .85 jakebar lol
  2. Honestly lucky isn’t the issue with our return game. He isn’t grant, not many players are. Hes getting 10+ per punt which is good and better than the previous two kr this year, and the army of guys when grant was hurt. And he’s getting about 20 per ko, which is fine as well. He’s a bit behind smith on that. Mean while he’s catch it securely, and making the right decisions. Our return scheme is not what you would call max return. We really play for blocks and line disruption.
  3. Yep. Same weakness as lapo. I think he does struggle with game planning situationally going into games though. Stuff like how to beat pressure, how to develop the offensive point of attack, and how to manipulate the D into giving you a specific look/opening. Yeah Bryant hurts but honestly it’s not one spot hurting us like you say. We are suffering in a bunch of spots because of a bunch of different decisions. you’re right in general that it takes time to throw down field. But you can run timing routes down field to put the D on their heels. Think 4x1 throwing an arcing fade on a short drop, that the wr runs under. You throw it to a spot and trust your wr to go get it. We could run that with lawler, or with lucky based on speed. That type of play can be bang bang and puts the ball 25-35 yards down field and has a chance to score. And it can be executed before a rush hits the qb. But it needs to not be done too much, and you need to back it up by hammering the seam by the S on the other side to prevent cheating and the S running it down. Though not many teams have burners at S any more. We really need to stretch the field in multiple directions. We aren’t doing well with the screen game (not talking check downs, I mean fast YAC screens) or with jet type motion, or outside/wide zone runs. You have to attack the seams of the D and force them to adjust then attack new seams. We don’t do that. Bob Wiley put it great, sacks aren’t just on the ol and teams get in the habit of giving them up in many different ways. You have to prevent sacks with more than the ol blocking.
  4. 100%. A happy balance exists some place. I get you don’t want to go back to two-a-days mid season and get away from that kind of approach. The pendulum has gone too far In the other direction now. 1 full pad full contact practice between games with one no pads is the bare minimum imo. Some times teams need two padded full practices between games. Shouldn’t happen often but say twice a year would be good.
  5. Improving the team through a hc change wouldn’t be easy. Improving the team through an oc change would be easy, just like how our D has improved dramatically with a dc change. A hc does a lot of things, many do too much and micro manage the D or O. Mos does one thing poorly, roster management. Our team as a whole isn’t good at challenges and that’s far from just on mos. Some of the roster issue goes to Walter’s as well. The primary point of failure in our offence is buck.
  6. First place in the west, 5 game win streak, just swept the ldc/bjb, and we have won the season series with bc, Calgary and ssk. Soo we drop 2 spots to 4th. Yep makes perfect sense to me, 3dn writing is trash. I hope the media and league continue to under estimate the bombers. If we get a bit healthier, use the roster a bit better, and get the pass game going it’s gonna be check mate.
  7. Seems to be unhappy that you aren’t blindly in the camp of the teams or pa? Idk, I guess in the hyper polarized world we live in the worst thing is to be an objective centrist.
  8. Keep in mind, it is well documented that the nba and mlb have done this multiple times combined. I do not think any one would tell the refs to just not call holding etc. but I could see telling them to only call “obvious, severe” cases of it. Holding etc is one of the least enforced rule sets in the cfl, along with opi. Meanwhile illegal blocks are called at probably a 1/3 rate on kick returns. Far more than on OLs. I think the main issues are 1 incompetence, and 2 less effective/experiences refs. You see awful spots with great regularity in every game, and even the command centre struggles to get calls right on review. We’ve seen a lot of the old guard retire and the next guys up just aren’t very good. They struggle to call games moderately consistently half of half. We’ve seen the league crack down on dpi a few years ago to try to improve performance. It got to the point we had the most ticky tack Hail Mary reviews lead to changes. Plus the only reason they moved the hash marks was to try to increase scoring. The league would 100% so stuff like this with holding just for that reason.
  9. Jokes, and the fact all coaches are a product of the management they work under aside, I think both are pretty comparable and even similar. Similar quality where dicky is a better XnO guy, and mos is a better culture guy. Similar roles in the two modern dynasty teams too. Funny thing is, I bet both teams would get better if they switched jobs right now. Both would clear out the others old boys club types, mos would insert a ton of winning culture (vs dickies whinging culture) and dicky would take control of our offence and make it significantly better. That said I wouldn’t want dicky under any circumstance. I think we’d get worse each year after this in that scenario and Calgary would get better.
  10. I do hate the low/no contact practice too. Really devalues developmental guys after tc ends.
  11. He is really really not a good blocker. Not even a high effort blocker. Couple times last night he jogged and half assed it costing us yards but not firsts. Wheatfall has been a full participant for a few weeks iirc. Not making the change is really foolish. Lucky is better too.
  12. Pass rushing kind of drives me nuts. I just can’t wrap by head around this lack of desire to polish the hard pass rush skills and techniques. There are soo many options for every skill set that just require practice. If you have reasonable front size, and 1 strong pro athlete attribute and other wise average you can polish your self into a monster. You don’t need the biggest bench, best get off, or elite run/jump numbers, you need to have the head for the chess game and the work ethic/drive to not lose a single snap. The general polish of guys up here is getting worse from the early 2k era. The cfl needs to have people involved in stuff like the von miller pass rush clinic, masterminds/cool clinic, Doug Baldwin clinic etc.
  13. 100%. On the field, off the field, economically, grass roots, fan base you name it. He is one of the greatest builder hof types ever. Mos gets props as one of the best coaches ever here. But wade imo is the greatest upper brass guy ever. He isn’t the loquacious type publicly, but talking to him one on one or in a small setting he’s always been the extremely smart hang on his every word type. Every thing that guy has to say is worth soaking in. When you see smart people talk to him you really see it a lot, people hang on his every word.
  14. Came back all like 290 lol. Looked like trent cornet now. I’d take a Jamal westerman, Gavin walls, Jackson Jeffcoat, etc. But to be honest it’d be nice if we could find the next cam wake, Brent Johnson or Joe montford. I want to see a 20 sack dominant campaign in blue n gold. A LT type impact player that the offence has to account and game plan for on every snap.
  15. Needs to resign ford, after that we have a lot of cap pruning to do.
  16. Tbh that sums up all stats in the cfl since the change over.
  17. I feel like ford could be had for a reasonable price in season either way. Tre has a high floor as a strev package type of guy and could provide value in other roles with his athleticism.
  18. Qft. Bill Walsh wrote two dynamite football books. The first is a XnO book. The second was “the score takes care of it self”, about how the 49ers turn around happened and that success starts off the field at the top. He changed the culture of how none football ops people were treated and acted and established his culture there first. Which is why even when he stepped back they still won. bobby Dyce is a bomber for life in my books. One of my favourite people in Canadian football. I don’t have particular love for ott, but I’m thrilled to see him succeeding as a hc. No surprise, and I’m ok with a bit of retribution. But you gotta get 90% of your revenge before the whistle and legally.
  19. At some point they have to realize it goes from oday down. This is 3 different head coaches and in that era they are the most penalized, fined and suspended team with out any change.
  20. Yeah honestly when you look at guys we decided not to pay and move on from, grant, jj, gray, brown, and the guys we clung to in Thomas, biggie, zach etc we made bad choices. If jj is in shape I’d take him back right now. Yeah, I’m not sure how much is injury, but I think not growing and developing is a big part of it. If he isn’t healthy enough he probably just won’t be able to cut it health wise. Screw Leonard. Wilcots would be worth a look. Jj if he’s up to it, even jagared davis if he is. Might be a thing of having to make a trade to find a better vet than that.
  21. At its best both our lines played on the edge too. Especially the ol. The big difference is like mos they stayed disciplined enough not to cross the line. Honestly we badly miss having that edge. Both groups whine at the refs now when they have a complaint. Rather than taking it out on the guy across from them. I mean the crack down on cruising hits by linemen was basically directed at us. The riders always have guys crossing the line.
  22. From what I’ve seen ol aren’t letting him get leverage. They get the punch move in earlier and deny him that tight angle rush. With out that he doesn’t really have much. Need Adam’s on, and to find another end who can consistently rush.
  23. 100% agree. Habba made some hay last year with a lean then cut, which takes advantage of his long arms and shorter stature. But his one move has been shut down and he hasn’t grown at all. Garbutt is like an imp version of Kongbo, with out the motor to get in on the back end of down field plays. He deserves more time and another camp but shouldn’t be a starter right now. We need rookies and maybe to look for a vet we can bring in. We need a lot more production on the edge opposite Willy. We really miss that guy who can bull rush tackles on any snap. Bending the pocket helps Willy a lot. I really like Adam’s, but I don’t know that he’s ready for huge volume in snaps yet and we are best off with him moving around different spots on the line. The expansion of nfl prs has really killed the air lift market for nfl cuts though.
  24. He isn’t Marino thats for sure. I would say he’s undisciplined. Plays out of control a lot.
