SNF RedBlacks @ Lions in Victoria GDT
wbbfan replied to bustamente's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Yep. Even aside from the logistics in Atlantic Canada, watering down all the league wide revenue is extremely dangerous. Quebec City could hold its own imo, as a market. But I don’t think it would add league value, financially or in terms of talent development. -

I think lapo said he’s on color for the ldc -
Match cover is indeed a familiar concept in the cfl. The argos bend but don’t break played it a lot. And weren’t the first. They played a lot of 30 front with mobile lbers dropping back too. as jbr said the more you run the better. Play action also helps. You can time pa with breaks and freeze the D, pump fakes work as well. If you watch the pass concepts in those videos what you see is a lot of crowded forms and concepts. Very limited crossing, motion, dragging etc. mesh concept, a crosser from each side run towards each other close enough that they can high 5 is tough on mesh. As is delayed motion, and 0 motion (motion at the snap in stead of pre snap motion) as well as chip/block and release concepts, and rpo’s thrown at the largest coverage bubble. In general rub routes and layered crossing is the easiest way. Instead of trying to attack seams that don’t exist you force the defenders into extended trail position. using less of a tight stack, with spaced routes makes it harder to defend. The field is huge and if you space close to evenly you force man cover. You can also attack it on a personnel basis. Rb wheel to a vacated spot on a block and release, and routes that send the rb deep really mess up match cover. you can also force one of the better pass defenders to defend your worst target and force your their worst to defend your best. To do this you need to get to the line quickly and have the qb/wrs adjust to alignment. You can also start the passing targets in the back field and motion as late as possible into position. The more you do this the harder it is on the secondary. You can’t do it every snap by any means but it’s very hard especially in split field cover where one side would be man depending on the number of targets. You can also run overlap patterns, the pattern match really depends on teams spreading their targets and not crossing the middle in a flood. So if you have 3 on one side and you have the outside and inside run to the same spot then run a matching route like an inside curl, then pause, then run an in and where the WRs read leverage and run against it.

In general we had been keeping a true imp tackle with upside on the pr for years. Drew Richmond would’ve very likely been a good one imo. larnel Coleman and Khalil Keith were both highly touted guys who played guard and some spot starts at rt due to injury. The xfl and nfl tried to convert them to rt a bit but to no success. Both lost out to Randolph and vanterpool who are also guards teams tried to convert to T.

I don’t think so. He’s really dropped off for a good while. Idk if it’s rookie wall or not, but I’m sure he will learn a lot and come in even better next tc. It’s hard to expect too much sustained contribution from a green cis rookie. Even ford took a couple weeks of adjustments this year after a year in the league as a back up, then a year down south. And he was a blue chip cis kid with top notch athleticism. I don’t think any one actually thinks that. Imo mos needs adjustments, but I suspect it comes from above him. They should’ve reined him in long ago. The timing of the ships was kind of odd for his development. I wouldn’t fire a hc mid season unless it was Kelly bad. The closest one for me would be buck. I’d be bringing in some one or adjusting a coach’s role to ensure quality of game plan and adjustments. Very slim chance id bring buck back next year, but to fire mos you gotta have a guy who can coach better next year. I don’t think that guy is easily available. If any thing I’d groom jy to be the medium term replacement at hc. Mos is a great person and I’ll be happy for his record and for it finally changing hands.

That or johnson either or really. Adams offers a lot, but using lucky as a naturalized imp subbing with wheatfall on for Johnson would be big too.
-
Biggie back on and Adams back off too sigh
-
They should be offering the full field view on the tsn online channel instead of the speedometer n stuff. Or even have that too.

Damn that sucks, it’s serious though with a big older guy. I’m glad they are taking his recovery seriously and not just letting him go in when he isn’t ready. That said it’s gonna be a mess of pass pro. Shifts the line in a huge way too. Buck really really needs to step up his play call to aid zach with protection. Yuuuup I hope we win it, but I wouldn’t bet a dime to win a grand on it.

Any thoughts on not having a fnf game for ld weekend? I know they like the double header and I feel like every one wants to play the Monday, but Friday football in the summer is the best. I’d prefer one game a day Friday Saturday Sunday and Monday. Could have a mini show before pre Game or some thing with highlights from the ld history and a year by year recap. Obviously that would be much better for 3 of the Games because those have soo much great history. -
My only concern with Stan is what % he is. He could play and they would play him if he was too low for his own good. But a week to rehydrate and recover should be good if it wasn’t any thing more serious. I’d Be more concerned with how healthy Brady is. And if biggie is playing heavy reps again.

Hamilton wrongfully got the better of the penalty exchange on the cheap shot, and now on fines too. Lame. -

This. How many teams are in financial jeopardy? How many franchises can’t draw a decent crowd? Now the next top qb to get a deal is going to be comparing to 850k. We just saw how a run on WRs crippled the market and some teams caps. I mean bc screwed up the market and their team on Riley’s contract not that long ago. -

Yep. We had another Final Cut that was an ni db. If every team has 1-2 that are cut each tc that’s a good pile of guys you could dive through who have atleast seen the field with pro level talent. Depends on if feltmate/mci will be healthy soon. Though even if they aren’t it’s not a bad move. I wonder if we could look at converting one of our globals to fb. Lucky is not a de in the cfl. Weitz is a bit small but if he packs enough of a punch it’d be fine. The junior freebies are great for grass roots development. We arent at a point where it’s going to yield us a player, though I’m sure it will one day. But it’s a huge investment in the riffles. Those guys soak up a lot and bring it back with them. We’ve seen high upside guys from junior on the pr and in camp. Hasn’t clicked yet but it will at some point. wade and the brass love and put a lot into the grass roots development. -
Most of our big guys are pretty fringe in the speed tool. High 4.5- high 4.6. The size yeah. They pretty much draft all the big WRs with no wheels. Fits their system well enough.

https://3downnation.com/2024/08/29/opinion-b-c-lions-gaming-cfl-salary-cap-and-theres-nothing-wrong-with-that/ I’ve got a lot of love for ringmaiden, doman, jauch, and a handful of their coaches. But man I am tired of them trying to buy a winner. The league really needs to make adjustments to the cap in the next cba, and until then the bombers need to start spending competitively on free agents that aren’t ours. -

Even then you could sign a guy from with in the league. Or even a guy like rosery. -

You think a cis kid who didn’t get a single cfl camp shot as an udfa is going to give us depth at Sam? Every cis school had a kid playing sam, and most all of them haven’t gotten a cfl look. We could’ve brought back nico McCarthy who was a Canadian db here in camp. Or gone digging through other teams cuts. A Canadian db who wasn’t drafted and wasn’t brought into any ones camp doesn’t provide mid season depth in the cfl. That guy has a 0% chance of stepping in at Sam and succeeding. But we don’t have a need for ni db depth. -

I tell you what, we better go out and buy all the free agents in the off season. We keep missing out on adding established free agents for cap reasons while making the most money as a franchise. Clearly the cap is out the window, time to spend. -

Herb is a good writer, but about as bent as riderfans.com he’s blindly defended all the stupidest things the als have done. Nice move for them. Bc continues to try to buy a contender. Wonder if they will be the first team to get more than the monetary fine for cap violations. -

I know, but I’m talking about maintaining a spot. Big difference from breaking camp and staying on most of the year. -

If he doesn’t develop into an active roster player by next tc, even if he stays healthy, I think he will exhaust his nfl opportunities with lots left in the tank. Seems they like him out of camp in Detroit, only time will tell. -
He gets over the top, but doesn’t win the battle really any more. He can’t get off a block or make the tough tackle. His best use is deep spy. If he isn’t diminished further from this most recent injury.

Agree with that. Zach is near the end, but he’s still dangerous. The lights could click on suddenly and he could waltz down the field for a td on every drive at any time. The flickers become less frequent every game, but he could have the best game of his career left in him. Biggie, I don’t know if he has a single big drive left in his gas tank. Maybe a play here or there. Likely a dropping back in zone type of play. I don’t think he has a single play of standing up a blocker, shedding switching gaps and making a crushing 1on1 tackle in the hole. Zach has some struggles with health, I don’t think we will know full details till he retires but I think he has lingering hand issues and of course the concussions. Biggie seems to have fleeting moments when he looks like a healthy pro football player. Nature of his position, and our piss poor use of him for soo long. How many times did he get sent into an interior linemen to remove a blocker here? 500? A thousand? Too damn many that’s for sure.

That sounds about right. In my nostalgia prone memory the big shift came when teams stopped trying to go big heavy sets to counter the Don Mathew’s als cover 0, and started running 5-6 wide sets with fast screens and such. Suddenly every one started doing that to the als, and then to each other. And just like that the fb/te pro form offence evaporated. We kind of started the ball rolling by running and throwing to both backs (sellers n blink) a lot. And I want to say the riders started going empty back field vs the als to mixed success. Then the als adapted it most effectively for a good while. Course plenty of times in the past heavy west coast influences were popular in the cfl. And I haven’t really checked so it might be a bit off here n there or even more off than I would think. But that era really changed a lot in the cfl. The offence, then how teams defended, and it aligned with a surge in ni talent at wr too.
