  1. Yeah at this point he isnt. And the hope of him becoming elite at this point is very low considering his age. With his low experience he could improve considerably in a medium period of time, but its been a month and a half and hes getting worse. Even if he improves dramatically Idk if he could be more than a westwood quality kicker. All kickers struggle at some point, like medlock in the NFL. But its never consistent or long lasting. Medlock struggled in his first pre season game, then was lights out in the next 2. He played the first 10 games in the regular season. In the first 7 of those he didnt miss a fg, and went 5/5 in the 7th game. In the last 3 he went a combined 0/3 including 1 blocked kick that wasnt on him in week 8. After the 10th game his time was over. Mourtada has gone 0/3, 3/3, 1/4 with a missed convert. He was signed august 30th so its been a month and a half on the nose. I think at worst the bye week in week 13 has to be the panic button. The trade dead line falls in that week. Thatd leave a month plus a week till the GC. Any guys kicking around trying to get NFL deals should have a pretty clear picture of if they will get a deal or not. Bauming said that Sergio castillo has been holding out for an NFL deal too. So thats 3 seasoned cfl vets who can kick at a high level. Ones gotta say yes I would think.
  2. I hope yoshi is gonna be healthy soon. Imo hes the most undervalued player on the team. I imagine harris is on load restriction. He had like 25 touches last game. He doesnt need practice at this point of the season. I sure hope thats it. He looked like he was as sharp as he's been this year.
  3. Honestly the only OL depth in the league is in winnipeg. No one else has a healthy guy on the bench that is above replacement level. I wouldnt trade Eli for any thing. Id trade gray for a hero package that would have to start with a phenomenal kicker. (And I really like gray) If any thing the riders should dump powell, and go NI at rb. A guy like augustine should be gettable for cheap. STE if you want to pay more. Or try and get combs for cheap from ott, or just grab a guy like lyles to back up lafrance. Start 3 NI wrs, and then you only have to start 2 ni on the OL. Then dig up some NFL cast off OL and run an air lift till you find a couple that can adjust. As it is they have 0 chance of winning a play off game with a couple OL who are junior level. Theyve got OL who might not start in Usports.
  4. I think its much more mechanical. Its like a pitchers delivery and release. Except you need basically flawless mechanics every time. Mental issues can ruin any player in any sport. And staying consistent through long droughts of not kicking, even with in a game is tough. But that is never an issue with QBs who come in off the bench or who go a long stretch with out a possession/many passes. Ive played with kicking, but I wasnt a real kick at any level. Ive done muay thai and kicking arts extensively and I can tell you ive seen peoples kicking mechanics fall apart over minor tightness and all kinds of minor technique issues. Watching soo many of Mourtadas clips, he practices trying to make field goals while kicking off. The tee, the holder, his approach, empty fields, and always from right down the middle. Its like a kick off. Which is why he excels at kicking off soo much. In a kick off you have no timer, you can take as comfortable a stride as you like. Kicking a field goal, you have to cover a very precise distance, with an exact number of steps, in a small time window. All of that is stuff he didnt seem to practice. His approach looks uncomfortable to me. And he looks un sure of every kick he launches. But never surprised when he misses. I really dont think he knows mechanically how to reliably kick and adjust to different spots on the field. He only seems comfortable with the xpt, which is right down the middle. It isnt really a surprise, he's only kicked a little bit in the IFL as a pro, didnt have a full college career, and what he had ended a very long time ago. He's old, lacks experience, and has tremendous leg strength. Weaker leg guys arent trying to hit 60 yard fgs every day, they are trying to figure out how to hit from every angle, and mastering their mechanics.
  5. I wouldve bet that he'd out improve fajardo for sure. He has soo many tremendous weapons around him. I thought if any thing we might see the young guns take over the qb elite ranks. But at this point we arent any closer to that happening. I think this year is a prime example of the under rated value of the trenches. The bombers are built around the lines, and we're the most dominant team through 9 games in maybe 70 years. The teams with shaky OLs have had serious issues this year. Ham, ssk, to, bc, mtl all have pretty bad Ols. Imo no other team has a great OL. Its an assortment of mediocre and out right bad ols. We might see a serious jump in pay rate for OL this off season. For years pundits and teams have looked at QBs, and play makers on O and D to build around. Then they fit the cost of the OL around what they had left and needed for ratio. Our secondary is pretty cheap, and we dont have any WRs that are one and done prospects. League wide NI wrs are closing the gap, ratio breakers are available at every position pretty much, and NI lber is more regular now. I think we could see more NI rbs too. Especially if teams focus more on building their OL.
  6. In steinbach things are slowly trending a bit more left, about 1/3 of votes went to ndp/libs. The SE is home to a hyper vocal minority of religious right wing extremists though. The deep south, winkler/morden etc are still pretty entrenched. But luckily on the whole the province is much more progressive. Having lived in both these areas I sure wouldnt want to be painted with the same brush. Alberta is like the area around those cities. Mostly people are pretty neutral and quiet. But sadly that just lets the wing nuts have their way. But then I dont think its fair to generalize and paint groups in mass. By that notion all of canada could be painted pretty poorly with respect to a lot of native issues.
  7. He's a bit more solid of a canadian than most vague NIs. He was born in richmond bc and started school in canada, his mom is canadian if only by way of toronto. His dad is a samoan and they moved to hawaii before tui started highschool. As far as balancing pedigree and nationality he's about as good as it gets imo.
  8. Yeeep. We have 2 good imp T prospects on the PR, but they are likely a year away. Both are young with a decent amount of NFL PR time, one with some reps who was a fringe starter. We also have the global from japan, but in all likelyhood unless we had gray and bryant/neuf go down we would see ham n egger kolankowski roster before an imp.
  9. Vaj has been awful this year. The first game vs ott inflated his stats. And the to game after they fired their coaches but before jones took over too. But even then against that brutal stubbler defense he threw 2 picks with 2 tds. Vaj doesnt have a throwing blind spot, but he has piss poor decision making. I dont think khari's offense is well tailored to vaj, but I dont know how you would tailor it to fit him better. Run 22 formation from under center with just 2 wrs and hand hold his reads? Fajardo has a much better offense designed around what he can do. The problem is, what he can do is really limited. At this point I wouldnt want either as more than a back up qb. If I had to pick one for a back up Id prefer fajardos skill set and ability to run an offense. But hes been toxic AF this year. Vaj isnt nearly as toxic. Id honestly stick to mcguire over either guy, even at the same money. I think both guys are getting dangerously close to the jennings-printers wash out line. Both guys could be in the XFL next year. Or one of the other fledgling spring leagues.
  10. he could start choking on kick offs and XPTs too. All his practicing and lack of game action he's really a kick off specialist. You can send him out for head on kicks as long as you have minimal weather issues. But other wise legs should place kick.
  11. Yeah, hes a freakin tank. The fact that in goal line sets they move a tackle out of their spot and put eli in says a lot. I would bet on him being a starter next year, and getting the league wide notice that desjarlais has this year. And more.
  12. Same basic thing they did for the second half of the last game. Eli to guard Neufeld to tackle gray dresses and we may see more calls and schemes to help Neufeld.
  13. what a F$%^ goof.
  14. I think one of the rookie DBs could be likely. It seems like our use of back up globals and NIs have been to get an extra one on the roster the last few weeks. Agudosi, rosie, and orange would all be great to get a look at. But again, I wouldnt be surprised if it ended up that we kept mcknight on the roster. They are fascinated with him. Mauro would be nice to get back on the roster, but our teams play has been much better since the change. Maybe he wasnt being disciplined in his lane idk. Oyelola is also a guy I would love to see get a game. I think he could be a very good teams player very quickly with his athleticism.
  15. Yeah, thats not a pretty guy to have to dig up. But he did have his best success with khari as his OC so they are familiar. Its better than glenn, or the rest of the ancient ones. But not by much. When guys continually pick to play for a loser and chase money, like muamba, it just clarifies that fact. It also sounds like he wasnt the old duke with the bills in TC. I think harris would work far better in plops system in ott.
  16. Lynch is on the PR, hodges isnt listed on any roster but in theory should be on it or suspended. Maier Idk. They shouldnt, they should go with him. But loyalty to BLM runs soo deep in stamps land. VA has been pretty disappointing this year imo. Its not that I think harris is worse, I think the pressing down field attack style with a similar run balance and comparable OL wouldnt help harris at all. I think the best they can really hope for is jennings, and a PR grab / talent upgrade to a guy like lynch or hodges.
  17. Hardrick would be a big blow to our passing game. If that was the case, I would roll out 6 ol a LOT with gray in at TE over neufs side. I expect lawler to be as angry and motivated as we've seen him. He messed up, now its time to channel that into performance that makes people remember that he isnt his mistake.
  18. Really depends on him. He was the most physically prepared K in the league, thats why he lasted and excelled soo long. I wouldnt be surprised at all if he has kept in pretty good shape. I want to say he used to spend 2 hrs warming up and stretching before the stadium opened up every game.
  19. I would think harris would be target no 1. Maybe they get crazy and call up glenn or durant. Maybe they try to shake one of the argos qbs free, though I doubt it. Hamilton? Take a risk on dane evans hoping he will be back, probably not. If I was them, Id be after paxton lynch, duck hodges, or see if calgary would part with maier. And maybe see about bringing in jennings. I dont feel like harris would hold up, or execute well in montreal.
  20. I would think we could cut a deal with either where they play here and their agent still kicks tires, if they get an offer we cut em and they go. I think if it comes down to a month and less of football up here a guy like that might be more willing to come knowing he will be cut as soon as possible to pursue a contract down south again.
  21. I hear youre getting together a crew. Im not interested. Im getting together a crew. You son of a B%^& Im in.
  22. Same. I think you have to be careful with too much rest when you have the bye, but at the same time we gotta keep the guys safe and give the back ups and rotational players some chance to play. Of note I finally saw some 2 back set used with brady and johny as an Hback in our heavy run /first down package. I wouldnt be surprised to see a miss direction run with one of them in the next few weeks. Fake toss to harris and hand off or shovel to the hback. Dare to dream.
  23. Dang, going into the bye with 3 games to go having clinched the division final would be sick. Even then I dont think we'd have a let down game if home field advantage was on the line in the following week.
  24. Id bet good money that he's called wade more times then the bombers have called medlock and lirim combined. I would also bet that every single call went straight to voicemail...
  25. The argos are kind of like the bombers pre collaros, with out nichols at the helm. Nichols was able to do enough passing for us to consistently win games. If they could figure things out and focus on the run they could be a real threat. I fully believe they have the horses in the back field to do it. They dont have the great line we've had though. But they do have a tremendous wealth of talent at WR.
