2022 Off Season - Back 2 Back Champs Edition
wbbfan replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Came into the cfl coming off a career and got ending injury. His pro career was basically a bonus. Wish he had become a starter and maybe he’ll come back. Could be hurt or all kinds of fun stuff. -
He’s also athletic as all get up. He ran a lot his first year in college. 6’ 200 with a. 4.6 40 37” vert and almost 10’ broad jump is exceptional. Very close to strevelers pro day numbers and strevy was just 10lbs heavier and 3 inches taller. He put up 4.5 38.5 10’5. They had very similar splits in the 40 brown had a slightly better 20 yard shuttle and 3 cone. im sure strevy would do much better in the bench buts he’s pretty much an ideal physical specimen for qb. brown and prukop both give us the opportunity to run strevy package goal line and option / designed qb run stuff. Either way for goal line we are golden.

Pre-Season Game 2 - Winnipeg @ Saskatchewan - Tuesday May 31
wbbfan replied to Rich's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
As in 4 on the roster today. Like I said. We will be fine this year. But four for a game when we often carried more than any other position is in characteristic. I was a bit surprised they didn’t bring in a decent rookie imp prospect like they usually do but I think it’s just a sign of how high they are on the nis and Malik. Could also be like jones was saying that we see more wil out for db packages. It’ll really be interesting to see how the 2nd unit ol does. Could be a tough game for the qbs. I’m expecting the ugliest preseason game in a few years on both sides. -

And like 4lbers. We are uncharacteristically thin at lber. -
Kevin glenn was better than all but Strevy. With a yard off the ball the qb doesn’t need to have great power or be 220.
-
Yep. Unlikely to be extradited for this you probably won’t hear about it or him up here again. and for all the talk about what went down, it doesn’t seem like a loss. Schoen Jackson and Grant are seemingly all ready to start.
-
Might be more cuts coming.
-
We saw it very briefly late last year but probably not. Not enough incentive roster wise to put an extra ni on the field. I think it’ll be set up for heavy package stuff. The old misdirection toss to Augustine off tackle. Especially with a much more mobile back up qb this year. now if orange progresses or a starter goes down that could change.
-
Generally I would agree yes. The difference is Augustine is mentally and physically tough af. He’s very much an explosive imp style ball carrier. But out offense hasn’t had that threat in a long time it’s built more around chipping away at the d. I am excited to see how the tandem can work this year. 100%. Harris was a great balanced back but not a explosive gain guy mostly. In Brady and Augustine we have the extreme opposites. A far more powerful runner and a break away runner. Both are dependant on holes. Neither are guys who are going to be contacted in the back field and manage a 5 yard gain too often. in terms of age and development right now Augustine seems to be the clear choice for starter this year. Brady is still just 24 and has time to develop. He hasn’t grown at a great rate yet as a primary carrier. I really hope we work in some two back stuff finally with both on the field at the same time.

2021/22 - CFL Offseason - Non-Back-to-Back Grey Cup Champion Thread

Heard tomorrow after practice. -
Augustine has taken leaps and bounds the last two off seasons. It’s hard to say where they are at after this off season but Augustine seems on track to win the job. rookie Brady was handily a head. Not sure he has taken much of a step forward since then. Augustine has had to scrape and claw to make him self a professional. Brady hasn’t. My only concern with Augustine is he’s still a home run hitter. I’m not sure he’s a guy who can break a defense with 20 5 yard hard nosed runs. But luckily we don’t need him or either to do every thing. Between the two we have every skill set you could want.

I get it. But Doug brown isn’t Eddie Steele. Steele is a soup can and brown is joe Louis. and that’s this year. when it comes to a guy whose rotational and not a starter with that much service it won’t be a common fit at db but when you get one it’ll be a tremendous value. More fringe imp dbs might end up sticking around. -

Yes but it starts next year. Idk if they are counting the cancelled season either. glass has played 3 seasons so this is 4 and next would be 5 in the league which qualifies. Dbs with 5 years of service would go up in value as a dime / nickel. Brown is also a legend with heavy media connections and an incredibly high value for the role he fills. Getting him fired would be a very bad look for the blue and then you’d likely see him in a similar satellite role with tsn and or 3dn. -

The dl already rotates a hell of a lot. I can easily see them squeezing a guy like walker into the role. -
Agree on all points. I can’t wait to see the offence with all starters together. with Augustine’s advanced age and tremendous progression each year I suspect he will start.
-
Wasn’t that in one of the prior cba changes released? Back to 3 active qbs. that guy is a player. They also started mauro I think they wanted to see how both did vs starters to get an idea of how well they could rotate or replace a starter if needed. also worth noting is with the change to the Max salary for globals if Hansen wants to play they could do the deal the cfl vetoed earlier this year. I hope he comes back. the article on 3dn spoke glowingly of how Dobson played in his reps as well.

I think on d it could end up being older dbs rotating in. On o a guy like grant would be perfect. -
No, and they dont really need to. In a public position innocent until proven guilty does NOT apply. You are held to a higher standard. Doesn't matter if youre a stand up comedian and beloved 80s sitcom actor, or mega movie producer, or a pro athlete. When an incident like this occurs teams generally launch their own investigation, which is mentioned in the first article. Usually this involves the team getting an un official statement from the player. If the investigation finds an inconsistency / lie in the story, even if it isn't definitive evidence of guilt, youre treated as guilty.

1 Dru brown. One of the best qbs on the field today. Tremendous surprise, seemed like if he had more reps than dakota we mightve won. 2 Schoen / Jackson. Both rookie wrs showed well. Schoen early catching every thing, and jackson putting up production with worse qbing. 3 Cadwallader, and Ford. Both sure handed tackles when the game was in a rough stretch for the D. hh Cole adamson getting a sack Mancuso for being the 2nd best qb with out taking a rep. Demski and Augustine for giving us a glimpse of what we can expect this year.
