It wasn't 2012, it was 2013, and he didn't have any chance to impact culture in 13 in a meaningful way being sandwiched between mack and burke. The flushing at the end of that year cleared the slate to finally fully rebuild the mess left from the kelly year. Walters first made the move from the sidelines to the management chair as he began his tenure as Assistant General Manager and Director of Canadian Scouting with the Blue Bombers in 2013. -

Yeah, and if the league is going to follow through with fining guys for hits like that even if not penalized then it's all good. Earlier in the year we saw such shots and worse go with out punishment at all. And the guy is already a 3 time loser. -

He came in 10, as a ST coach and like some others in the past also worked with our Canadian scouting and development team (which is why he was poised to become the interim GM). No one, had significant power under joe mack. (front office wise) -

Walters and wade werent here that long before mos, but their first major moves in that off season was bringing him in. With out question wade and walters brought in mos largely on a shared philosophy on culture. It has to be top down though. Mos, with the riders under Oday would not have a team with a strong culture. No one would. Gms, and presidents don't hire coaches who don't share their outlook, simple as that. Plus if you look at wades businesses and Guelph from when walters was there, it's all the same deal. That point can also be clearly seen in the fact he was brought back in his 3rd year after 2 losing seasons. Very few front offices give guys 3 years. Especially after the complete disaster that came the year prior to mos. Most front offices would've sent him packing to find a vet coach. -
In the off season the league rule change committee was seemingly very close to making kick off cover rule changes. It didn't go through (and I'm still not sure about claims that kick cover creates more injuries) but the NFL made the change. With the first week in we can see some of the impact of the changes. I'm enjoying the change a lot, and keeping an average kick depth where the ball is in play most of the time would certainly improve the entertainment factor of kick off returns. 70 is about the longest average kick off, but with wind and outliers that actively ranges up to plus/minus 15 yards. Personally, I think giving kickers a better chance to kick singles and putting the return team in a position to decide if they want to return from just inside their end zone or let it go would be interesting and more balanced. https://operations.nfl.com/the-rules/rules-changes/new-dynamic-kickoff-rule-explainer/ https://sumersports.com/the-zone/kickoff-corner-nfl-week-1-new-dynamic-kickoff-rule/ www. youtube.com/watch?v=PrPyqtulzEM < Every kick off return in week 1

That’s one of my biggest pet peeves in sports. The refs are out to get us! Groan. Especially in the cfl where the reffing and punishment has been bad across the league this year. -

That’s a damn good question. If you have the right younger guys, kongbo and desjarlais were those types, they take over and push the former leaders to follow or get out the way. Do we have a batch of replacement guys? I don’t think so but we might. truth. That’s gotta be one of the hardest stretches in history for football fans. That and the browns for like 15 years lol. it is well with in your control to not read things you don’t want to, block scroll etc. it’s 100% valid on topic bomber discussion. What isn’t? Whinging about 100% valid on topic bomber discussion. if Paul wasn’t a culture fit, they wouldn’t have brought him in though. Many of the ast coaches could run the team with the same culture. Buck, jy, hall etc. And Walter’s before that. I said the culture was turned over to and ran by the locker room before 19. Not that it existed pre 19. If you brought in an out side hc, the culture would change some, unless wade and Walter’s the highest level culture setters brought in another guy like mos. Even then you’d see similar culture but with tweaks. With an inside hire who was the ast hc and oc? Nah. Some people are snakes in the grass and hide their nature, but they mostly fool people who want to be fooled or are vulnerable. If you set out for culture first and prioritize it, you will find it. In the hirings of Dickenson, mace, Chris jones etc the respective teams were trying to get instant value when coaching development is a process like any other. When wade and Walter’s hired mos, they knew and accepted it would be an investment. -

Much has also been written about the fact that the locker room has owned and ran the culture since before the 19gc, so no, it wouldn’t just change over night even with a hc change. -

Looks good on them. Honestly his actions come off more pouty than authoritative via reporting. Maybe coaches just can’t be iron fisted any more idk, doesn’t come off as strong. no way oday keeps his job now right? that really sucks. Defensive star added to the very long list of gone for the year league wide. -

I don’t think he was more conservative than mos with a lead, both are cut from the same cloth in that way imo. Paul struggled to implement great culture, and limit his control of the O. But he ran our O and would’ve inherited the culture. Quoted for damned truth here. We badly need to do what ever it takes to keep him in a clean safe pocket. Zach 2025 scares the hell out of me. We better spend all the money on the ol. Might have to run 3-4 imps full time. Boy that’d be the answer to a lot of issues on D if they give him a shot and he works out. -

I’m ok with that. I think brown should’ve been suspended around the first two hits on qbs, they should really be cracking down on severity too though. The fines have never impacted late hits on QBs. Powershift! terrible rankings as always soo average I guess. -

Honestly the biggest failing point of our coaching staff has been in the 2 gc loses. Not just in roster management, but in game plan, execution, adjustment and having the team ready to go at their best. And not many coaching staffs would survive 2 bad back to back GC loses. Adams worse than 6-7 other DL. Hallett is a rotational cover guy over griffin at times, holm over griffin, the entire DE debacle this year, tre thomas/dylan moses, johnny petrishen, joshua gremmel all cut for a bunch of guys who cant play, rivers should've been kept around too. Plus the whole cutting the only T and carrying nothing but imp guards on the pr, mcghee sticking around soo long, sheahan lol, the early failed karamoko experiment, cutting rosery, its an impressive amount of tri level chess mos is playing and mental gymnastics to get to that point. Nice strawman, ad hominem combo! Double points, you win! 😄 -

False dilemma lol. Or, you know, its multiple factors lead to wins and it can't be boiled down so simply. Some teams win because of coaching, some teams win inspite of it. Some teams would win no matter who was at the helm. I'm not saying mos hasn't had a part in our winning, he certainly has. But he is far from the top cause for our recent success. IF you look at that D closer, you might see that our best 2 DL this year have been rookies in woods and adams. If you look at our secondary, bonds, ford, griffin, and nichols are all in the top elite tier of DBs in the whole league. Despite the fact that griffin plays dime in a sub package instead of starting. If you look at our D last year and this year you see a big change, do you think that is more mos than JY? I see credit for our D quality as front office for filling 2-3 starter gaps with all stars including new to the cfl guys, then JY for the system change and tremendous coaching, then Hall and mos are about equal. -

Mos was on the hot seat before the 19 win, and we won because of generational talent disparity between us and the rest of the league. Plus some what fluking into zach collaros. No zach trade, mos wouldn't have lasted or gotten close to the record. Most coaches in the league would've excelled with our team in the back half of 19-22. He's a great force for culture and leadership. But if mos was fired at the mid way ish mark of 19 and paul took over, every thing else being the same, nothing changes. Wins, are not facts. They are biproducts. And they can be produced a great number of ways. Not just coaching and qbing. Enter, Gustavo Chacin. A former Starting pitcher for the toronto blue jays. in 2005 he was 5th in roy voting, and was among the league leaders at the mid way point in Wins. However, his ERA was above 5, 1.5 walks plus hits per inning pitched, he didn't get strike outs and didn't get ground outs. He even gave up a high rate of hard hit balls in play. He was abnormally lucky amongst other things. He went 25-15 as a starter with the jays (in an era when .500 starting pitchers got major paydays.) but pitched just 5 games after his time with the jays. In 2005, he had more wins that Roy Halladay and tied for the team lead in wins. But he wasn't the best starter on that team, or the 2nd/3rd/4th/5th. The depth was filled out with miguel batista (27 wins next 2 years), dustin mcgowan(34 wins after 05), shaun marcum (61 wins), and chad gaudin (26 next 3 years and 45 career after going to the pen.) https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/chacigu01.shtml -

Appeal to authority fallacy much? Would you like to make a fact based claim to defend the likes of kola, Johnson, Jackson etc? I can give you a large list of names and you can take first pick and I’ll respond in turn with a fact based break down. Sure they know more. But if knowledge was the primary limiting factor money ball would’ve won all the ships. I can give tons of examples of the smartest guys not succeeding, and even not being coaches. Weve seen this for years here. Guys that don’t get a sniff else where start here for extended periods of time. Plus mos is open about it, he values intangibles over much else. Kola is hands down the worst C in the league. It’s far more than a handful, and the same guys who watch him daily started Johnson for weeks then cut him keeping pr guys, ran Damien Jackson out as di for 10 weeks then cut him etc. The decision making process is not based on talent or even efficacy. Very true. The lack of discipline from the O this year is really interesting. With buck moving down and mos over ruling some calls I feel like some thing is going on. -

He hasn’t had an opportunity at C. He’s still a large upgrade at C. They double shift him because Dobson is the only other guy who snaps, and he excels on the heavy set in his spot. -

Looks quicker than fast but still has escapable speed. Better catcher than I expected for his size. Reminds me a bit of dressler. Big question for me is has he been banged up and lost explosiveness? Looks like a good score. -

Alleged 4.38 40 time, pro day numbers weren’t as good but still very strong. Dandy did five events at the pro day at Northwestern: the 40-yard dash (4.48 seconds), the 3-cone drill (6.87 seconds), the 5-10-5 shuttle (4.19 seconds), the vertical jump (39 inches) and the broad jump (10 feet, 7 inches). -

Grainger has incredible dynamic talent and upside. Needs lots of polishing, but well worth the look. Sucks about woli, thankfully we got Mr automatic in clercius. BRANDON WRIGHT (Defensive End) POSITIVES: Brandon is a 6'1, 250-pound defensive end who runs 4.74 in the 40-yard dash and put up 19 reps with 225 pounds. He was rated as the No.1 RB in Ohio in high school. He played in 42 career games with the Spartans and started six career games at defensive end. He had 44 career tackles, six tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. NEEDS TO IMPROVE: Unfortunately, Wright does not have as much length as an average DE, and he has battled injuries that have limited his ability to get onto the field.
