Week 7 - Non-Champ Games - Cgy@Ham Tor@Ssk BC@MTL
wbbfan replied to JCon's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Np, i had to clean it up a little they changed their format part way through and it kind of drove me nuts lol. Yeah day, time, and if a stinker of a team is playing effects things a lot. But we also have to keep in mind the Bluejays wild card race, that tennis crap last week, and the NFL season starting. I wonder how the CFL would do if the season ran from the end of the NHL season till before the start of the regular season. This year that'd be ending middle of oct, and they are gonna end the regular season with april. So if they ran may-oct. pre season and TC would go on during the deep play offs. And maybe the GC would happen early in the NHL season. That would over lap the end of our season with a month or so of the NFL season. Im sure itd be better for the league to run during the NHL play offs rather than over lap our end with the NFL start. It'd be death for bringing up US talent if we overlapped our end with their start. And if we didnt have a gap between our end their beginning. Just musing. When the NHL regular season hits I dont think our TV will fall off too bad, but I feel like the ticket sales do and will. -

100%. Every one does the little things that help their team mates. In the past darvin was our run blocking wr. Right now, every guy we have is down field blocking on runs and passes that didnt go to them. Demski, adams, woli, and lawler are the best 4 man group of blocking wrs ive ever seen.

Exactly. Thats even a minor part of the issue with the schedule. But huge streaks of home and away games is bad. 1 home game in 4 weeks is lousy enough here. Having home games that are few and far between is bad for the game. Even in the crappy markets like tor. But all he heard was RIDERS and BAD SCHEDULE COMPLAINTS. And was triggered. I dont think many schedules even out this year. A lot of teams schedules are just bad. Its bad for teams, bad for players, and bad for fans. This schedule was very short sighted. It shoudlve been trashed, some one shouldve been fired, and a decent one drafted. Idk if it was the schedule maker, or their boss, or the league but some one crapped the bed. No team should be playing 2 games in the same schedule week. Ever. No team should even play with less than 6 days between it and their previous game. This year is already hell on the players bodies. I cringe soo hard when I think about ott playing twice in week 10. Toronto is coming off a bye they go from a game on the 24th to the 6th. Montreal plays on the 2nd of the previous week to the 11th in that week. 2 very well rested teams vs ott in the same week. Come on. They dont even get a bye after that, they play again on the 16th. 3 games in 10 days. Then edmonton finishes with 3 in 6. If any player is seriously hurt from the wear and tear in these games the league is going to have hell to pay. This type of bush league BS hurts the league, especially in trying to grow its popularity with the younger demographic. We are gonna see some horrible football down the stretch. What a way to set up the play offs. -

Lmao, and then next year ott is a killer team. TSN and the cfl media have an un questionable bias. Towards the riders, and towards the ontario teams. The refs are generally bad. This year they are worse. Its a league wide problem. We have no consistency game to game week to week. I dont think its bias'd but it does supply and advantage to a less disciplined team. We won despite lots of questionable, poor, and missed calls. And some truly head shaking decisions from the booth. Our DL handled the ssk riders ol, but none of the holding or blocks to the back were called against the riders. Do I think the CFL called the refs before the LDC and the BJB and said hey keep the riders in it? Nope. Would I be surprised if they were told hey let them play more in these two games? Nope. We have seen some crazy flips from massive 15-20 flags on a team, to virtually no penalties for 3 quarters of a game or more. -

Thats not the issue with the schedule. It has many issues as Ive listed. Finishing on the road vs at home doesnt matter unless you need the last game to clinch a play off spot. -

No it doesnt, thats exactly the point. 4 games vs ott for montreal, 0 for us. Edm plays 3 games in 6 days. Ott has to play 2 in 5. We have to play 4 home and home back to the back series this year. You think that all equals out in the end? Shake your head geez. -

Used to yeah. We swept bc last year. He had a solid game the first time the 2nd time was 16/28 for 177 and a pick and sacked him 7 times. Reilly is tough, but our defense is even better then the 2nd game of last year. Edm handled him pretty easily this year too. A banged up qb vs our D is a great combination for us. -

I feel like a 1 dimensional offense like BC doesnt pose a big threat against our D. The DL can pin their ears back and pass rush the secondary can play off and tackle. But thats not this week, first things first. Kick the elks ass. -

The ontario teams arent gonna pull that much any way. To balance the schedule around optimizing attendance in low attendance markets is like teaching nothing but grade 1 math to a grade 8 class because 1 or 2 kids are at that level. They couldve also achieved the same by stacking the east teams byes in the first half of the season. Their issue their problem. I think they took the quick easy way out of the schedule making this year. Rather than making tough but fair calls and issuing a reasonable schedule they just took the cheap way. Comparing out strength of schedule to teams like the 2nd half of the season for montreal or the firs stretch for ssk you cant even value wins the same. If toronto and montreal both end up in a regular season tie, toronto is a much much better team. If montreal wins 2 more games than toronto, toronto still had a better year and is a better team. This week is the half way point of the year and its 3 away to 4 home. -
Yeah great listen so far, the best pre game show from them imo. You can win fast. Creating culture is a bit slower. Since 16 mos is the best leader in the league and its not even close. You can argue other coaches for Xs and Os and what ever else but over all leadership no one is with in a mile of him. Several years ago (Im thinking hes talking ray or SJ green.) 60k housing budget for the year.

The schedule maker this year should be fired. mtl gets 4 games against ott, ssk gets all home games to start. We dont play ott once, and get our first bye at the half way mark of the season. And now edm gonna play 3 games in 6 days. I dont feel bad for alberta, but players in edm arent to blame for their idiocracy. The league shouldve had a bye week at the end of the year and put any cancelled games into that week. Some thing. 3 games in 6 days is not a solution. -
Another nice little nugget is them talking about coaching. How Mos leaves the locker room and its leadership to the players. And walby talks about how cal very seldom came into the locker room. And when he did it was to sit with the OL, drink, and just talk after wins. And how great it was for them to get to know him as a person, beyond just being their coach. Mos and Cal are very much cut from the same cloth. Mos is the perfect player coach in the modern era imo.
-
Worth listening to even just for the opening mini story by walby, its about 1 minute long.
-
Yeah he's big, so he's got that goin for him. Not much else lol. Time for our D to put the HURT on a rookie qb.
