2019-20 Grey Cup Champs Off-season discussion.
wbbfan replied to Wanna-B-Fanboy's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
When a wr has a bunch of blocks on his high lights, i get excited. Especially when they are big. -
100%. He brought about alot of the talent roll over that would become the great calgary teams after that but got no dues for that at all.
-
yeah he was pretty bad too. Oc by committee at one point in the dark ages was pretty bad too.
-
Bellefeuille was hired to be their OL coach as well. Probably my all time least favorite OC. A sentiment I think many fans of his former teams share.
-
Sutior rides the riders nuts. Milt is objective and not an out right homer. He played with a ton of swagger and enjoys seeing it from units around the league. I respect that he doesnt just wear blue tinted glasses. Matty is the say way.
-
Foggs coverage skills were not good. He did however have an amazing knack for turn overs. Picks, FF, and FR. He was a really dangerous returner, despite being too much of a hitter he tackled very well for a db. He did a good job getting up on run plays and coming over off his man to make tackles. His coverage though, man it was rough. He was picked on more then any other db on the team in his time here. Its also why he was frequently demoted to be the dime DB and not a starter. His decision making and technical cover skills just werent good. A scout doesnt just scout rookies out of the league. A huge portion of scouting is looking at guys in the league that come available and recognizing under valued assets. Just like randle, rose and others. If any thing this management group has done a fantastic job scouting other teams players and picking up under valued guys. Guys like Nichols, collaros, hardrick, darvin adams, fenner, maston, miller, remple, demski, Janarion grant (ham TC), and craig roh, all came here and peaked while we bought low. Hardrick was cut by bc, collaros was dirt cheap, nichols was cheaper, adams was fairly low key pick up etc. Harris, nevis, WJ, medlock, and bighill, were all highly touted names in FA but they all lived up or exceeded expectations.

He was rumored to be close to returning to practice a few weeks before the end of the season but we never heard more. I would suspect he will be but only time will tell.
-
1 more win gc win before the riders and we will have 3 times more championships then their franchise. At that point we probably need to stop trash talking them as its punching down too much. Yeah ive seen this a bunch on social media. A bunch more pressures and a record for pass knock downs but hey tackles lol. I think the way he and the dl played in the grey cup says it all.

🤣 I think for a championship team we have done a lot and more then one would expect before the hollidays. Hoping bryant re ups early too but its all a great sign that we wont have a championship hang over next year. I feel like its gonna be a bit of a late announcement for buck taking over as oc. No real advantage in doing it early. I suspect itll be a few weeks before FA. Though its kind of a for gone conclusion at this point.

Yep. Can you imagine what he would do in brandon banks role in hamilton? insanity. Ricky williams was more then reasonably good when he returned to the nfl. He had the second best year of his career. 1,121 rushing yards, 4.7 YPC 11 tds with 264 receiving yards and 2 more tds. 1,385 yards from the line and 13 tds isnt second tier, or only good. He would not have been in the discussion for best back that year. He played just under 2/3s of the season, if you doubled his totals he would end up 600 rushing yards and 8 tds behind charles roberts (hed also be 150 yards receiving behind blink for about 750 total yards behind) We see countless high tier prospects sizzle out in camp despite nfl success and great ncaa pedigree because they cant adapt their skill set to the cfl game. Plenty of stars would not make it up here because they have been doing the same stuff from HS to ncaa, to the NFL and wouldnt be able to adapt. A bunch of physical Dbs, Qbs who run heavy sets and are ok to read 3 pass options, we havent seen a TE succeed in the cfl in ages (though I think it could make a come back) and positions that dont over lap here, a chunk of backs wouldnt make it for not being able to make it out of the heavy set us schemes or with the huge volume. Just like any thing else, a player can be a star with another team in the league but not make it after a trade or FA contract. Or guys who get cut up here only to get another nfl contract and stick. Elite play can be very fleeting. How many stars in the nfl, cfl and ncaa look bad when they suddenly go from playing mostly in warm weather / domes to playing in freezing temperatures and snow?

Didnt remple white JFG and a few other teamers come over as well? But yeah its not the wally buono era here. If any thing I can see them picking at some of our depth, but not much.

2 buys 1/3 of the way through the season cmon cfl. Tigercats have anthony gordon AND jalen hurts on the NL? Man they are swinging for the fences, maybe a little drunk after they traded manzel away. Gordon is some thing else to watch throw the ball.
-
we dont win those play off games with streveler starting though.

Because his reading of a defense even just in terms of reading the end to hand off or keep is not near ready. His arm talent is there, his heart is more then you can expect from any player, Its his ability to manage the clock, read the defense and make decisions that is the issue. Wagering a season on him taking a step he hasnt shown yet, in a new system / under a new oc and qb coach is a big risk. To be fair, a washed up qb just won us the grey cup.

Good picks I think. who will be the next tsn coaching reclamation project i wonder.
-
I love how the riders fans were soo down on him after the first go round, and are again high on him and this move bringing him back.
-
The problem with that is in no way can you depend on either collaros or nichols for a full season, and we streveler isnt ready to start that many games a year yet.

Last year he was better then any nichols year other then 2017. While he had a piss poor ol, run game, team and offensive game plan. And 2017 nichols had the best OL in the modern of the cfl. The same people who dump on him seem to be the same people who want to credit QBs with wins. Despite him beating us once, and averaging more passing yards against us over 2 games then any blue bomber qb has thrown for in a game in 2 and a half years. (i know i know passing yards are meaningless, even though rushing yards and harris' receiving yards are super important, yards are yards) I think a large chunk of people who hate MBT do so out of a fear that he does succeed and we will have passed on him at a position where we havent had a real star since khari jones.

QFT. I think if you can get MBT and a guy like zach or nichols to back up on an incentive laden deal its the best case scenario. If you are gonna make good use of the read option package, streveler is well worth having as a 3rd stringer as well. Then you dont have to worry about him getting hurt nearly as much, or putting him in should the starter get hurt and losing the change of pace etc. And you lock in his great short yardage play and holding too. Nice, It does happen where pending FAs are traded before the start of FA (especially with QBs) so a specific team can take run at a guy solo rather then face open market. It wouldnt be much but it is a possibility.
