  1. Wasnt he a back up for most of those first two years too? Tough year for healthy. Finding decent NI ol mid season is hard. Is spooner still with edm? Maybe oullete de carlo or Koczwara? Or see if Dumouchel wants to try now.
  2. right? Offense didnt score any points? This is fine. Offense cant buy points or first downs in the 4thq of games? this is fine.
  3. Yeah 94. That was heart wrenching as a canadian those poor expos. Ncaa makes a lot of sports more interesting. I greatly prefer college football and basketball to the pros for game to game enjoyment. Interesting. I could see that having a very strong correlation.
  4. Im a moderate baseball guy and a stat nerd. Baseball has been the front runner for a long time, and in recent years basketball has broken into it as well. The nfl is slowly transitioning though a few outlier sites like footballoutsiders.com have been doing it for a long while.
  5. WAR is an advanced stat in baseball. Wins Above Replacement. So the average guy you could pick up mid season as a FA is around a 0 war guy. The base level replacement. A great player in baseball might be worth say 8 war. Meaning over the course of the MLB season they will cause you to win 8 more games then the fringe pro you could pull in off the streets.
  6. So actually its .96 years per starter. But if you remove the low outliers and count the entrenched starters, guys given the reigns and margin of error for more then say half a year its more like a year and a half. Only pierce and glenn have been around as much and only khari longer. But QBs age funny. Ac was old when he became a star. Same with khari. Danny mac hit his stride late, and damon allen played till he was a living fossil. That said things are not trending well for nichols here.
  7. Qb driven league, but no matter what its far more a team sport then any one guy. More of a team sport imo then any other. The drop from good team to bad team is the quickest in the cfl. And the cfl is known for its flash turns of fortune. They had iirc the most games lost to injury, especially on both lines. Cant win in football with out great line play. No matter who you have. I think its 100% true. Id love to see sabremetrics applied for qbs and in general in the cfl. Especially an indepth WAR break down.
  8. To throw a wild number out there I would guess the average starting qbs term of service here is a shade over 1 year. And I think Im guessing high. The league as a whole seems to be on the verge of a massive roll over among starting qbs. (i mean its allready happened a lot due to injuries but I think a lot of guys fall out of the league between this off season and next year that would have been in starter battles now and prior)
  9. Think thats bad get a load of this. I went back and looked at all our drives in the 4th quarter this year this is what our offense is putting up in the 4th quarter through 8 games. 11 first downs and 1 touch down. The rest of the team has 12 first downs, 8 of those from harris. (a first down not involving nichols is one that he doesnt do more then hand off/screen) The rest of the offense has 4 tds. All from streveler. While weve kicked 3 fgs. The offense has put up 17 4th quarter 2 and outs. (17 2 and outs to 23 first downs) And 5 of the first down drives have been 5 play drives or less. 1.37 times per final quarter of a game nichols is throwing a pass "down field" and completing it for a first down. 1 td pass in 2 games worth of final quarters. Half his picks come from the 4th, along with 1/14th of his tds.
  10. That would bring the best immediate improvement imo. Even just let pierce call the plays. Plop is a good player coach and good xs n os guy. I With out offensive touchdowns and the ability to get first downs in the last 5 minutes of the game its no better then smoke and mirrors.
  11. If he doesnt he should start.
  12. Not over rated imo but nothing fancy. He's a real steady back. A good guy for a team that doesn't need big gains but grind out yards on first down some. Better guys available though. Tough Canadian who can play teams block and rotate in not a bad guy to have around for any team imo.
  13. He was playing much better earlier in the season but it's hard to tell if it's the injury or he's returning to his previous level of play. Still young and can be a starter but isn't in our best combination. He'd start for maybe half the league imo.
  14. Tackles are not an indication of success at the safety spot. If any thing it trends in the opposite direction. Hecht has been very good this year. I was shocked he too the job over Jones but he has shown why on the field.
  15. Yeah much higher demand on quicks. Teams have been running long drag routes slants etc to exploit Fenner and Hecht. Hecht can't over commit and doest have the speed to make up for it in cover 1. Having mo even as the extra rotational db on cover 2 would be big. Plus he was a beast on teams.
  16. Or dig in about injuries like nuef. Local media had gotten exceptionally soft.
  17. We've seen glimpses in pre season and regular. He's shown enough to be a ni back up but not more. Likely out come. It's true. But in our offense playing the flat for dump off passes is as valuable and forces the committment from defense. We block n release a lot too. We don't have an every down back up ni that's proven. That's a crazy rare commodity.
  18. If he can cut hard and show the quicks that would be what's needed. That's what was really missing. If he was even half way back between pre injury and post recovery I would take him back in a heart best.
  19. They don't have a positive correlation, and how many hot starts to seasons lead to grey cups? Having the most two and outs and among the lowest passing yards implies heavily that we are not as good as our record.
  20. It by every you mean just those two then yes. While enjoying by far the best field position in the league as well. And with Harris on track for a career year rushing. Not to mention plays like Lucky's where it was all run after the catch.
  21. I can't imagine they gave Carter near that kind of money. I can't see them having that kind of room left either short of cutting some one
  22. I was thinking about that today. Maybe the hall defense and plop offense is just how the game in CFL is gonna be played under this set of rules and enforcement. Not a thought I relish. I feel like the core of the old west coast style of offense is gone and the maligned bones remain.
  23. That's a nice hit... No that was a blind side spear...
  24. Both these teams look very beatable. And they are upper middle of the pack. This is the most up for grabs season in decades.
  25. I feel like this has happened in part due to the short weeks this year. Hope it's the last one we see like this.
