I would say the top tier of quality was better, (when have we seen a showdown of 2 champs on free tv?) and the depth of the card was far better than normal. Hardy should have traded places with cowboy. That was a stupid spot to put the hardy fight. I didn't see that as an early stoppage either. I was pulling for TJ, but he got knocked down didn't defend several ground shots well, got up and got knocked back down. I'd rather see a stoppage like that 100 times out of 100 then see guys taking an extra shot when they are out cold. This isn't boxing, you don't need to maintain a 99% win ratio. climb back up the ladder and do better the next time.
  2. To be honest, Id put the all-time team in a 3-4 alignment. We've got a killer nose tackle, and 3-4 jack pass rusher and a glut at LBer. my 2c. I feel like Fortney is a guy who played at a stellar level but isn't easily quantifiable with stats. I think this is also the nature of DL men. Some guys explode off the stat sheet, while others dominate without stats. Also, averaging over 17 games per year for 11 straight years with 426 tackles and 52 sacks for a dt that mostly played on the nose, and was abnormally tall, lean and athletic is unreal. This was prior to the next generation big athlete being commonplace. As incredible a person as a player, and every bit as smart on and off the field too. Truly one of the most exceptional people and players in history.
  3. I don't think January is too late for an ast to interview for a HC job. I also think its a bad move 99% of the time when you prevent an ast coach from interviewing/taking a HC job. This might be the 1% though. Personally, im not a big fan of plops play calling. I think he is a phenomenal leader and coach of players. He tends to out-think himself but I think he is better as a HC then as an OC. Id be happy in general to see him move on to a HC job any place else in the league, other then sask.

First UFC on ESPN seemed great. Very entertaining card with lots of good quality fighters. On the downside, Stephen A Smith. I don't like him, though he wasn't the worst. I wouldn't bet on this level of quality from ESPN ufc events going forward though. I do hope they are better assembled then the fox stuff. It got to the point the ufc on fox was more miss than hit with events and fights. I love the cowboy fight. If it leads to a mcg fight that'd be fantastic. A great matchup that should be very entertaining and re-qualify one guy for a title shot late this year.
  5. personally id go trestman. idk if he would fit under their cost requirements though.
  6. Tend to agree with this. Id like to see them air one game a week, plus the play offs. Even with out money changing hands, more exposure to the states is great. Especially with the start ups coming.
  7. Or they dump that chump OC, hire plop to HC and oc and hire a dc
  8. Good riddance to bad rubbish. The league is better off right now. This reminds me of nick saban sooo much.
  9. Yep. Its a cruel cruel world. not long ago mo and randle were two of our best, and the leagues best defenders and dbs. Today they are both out of work and could be out of football. Randle was such a monster for us, and he came here at a time that FA vets didnt come to winnipeg. He was here through some awful days. He is a big part of what we have today, both in terms of class and quality. It doesnt last forever, and it never lasts long enough. I wish the best for him in football and in life.
  10. A Jack Lber is more of a DE, then a sam is a LBer though. Kind of a tough call. To me though, the difference between counting a guy as a LBer or a book end, is if he plays off an edge or if he scrapes to the ball. And guys who scrape to the ball get a ton of tackles. Book ends, dont. For me, the sultan of sack, the swac master, is a book end.
  11. A Jack lber, or a 3rd/4th weak side book end maybe. Especially on a team thats got a really good vet but meh depth.
  12. I don't buy viewership. But it does give you the leverage to get nationwide tv. I really can't see that many people watching them on tv in the GTA. Perhaps (more than likely) I am crazy though.
  13. I feel like these start-up leagues, and even the established ones get caught up in this. Trying to hammer in as many Toronto type teams instead of Edmonton, Winnipeg etc. Some tiny cities and areas of the US get 30k or more for high school games. Just makes no sense to me to target a city like Seattle, vs a city that would be invested in keeping a team around. One of the more interesting too. It has such a strong hipster reputation but has a huge now counterculture that predates the hipsters. I believe the small market teams are what keep leagues around through the rough times. I also would bet the combined years of operation for XFL 2.0 and AAAAAFL will max out at 3.
  14. Yeah seattle is a boom city in a big way. Plus that football market is locked up tight as it gets.
  15. That 3-year minimum ooof. Exist a year before something like that. I see that making them prime targets for the back end of the career cfl/afl nfl PR guys. What player in or before their prime is going to want to sign away 3 years.
  16. I agree. I think they have some of the right ideas but are just missing. Id look at places in the range of Austin/forth worth. That winnipeg size market without a big 4 team, or much chance of ever getting one. Look at places with big HS football communities. San diego might work though. The football fan base from the chargers might be bitter and anti NFL enough to endorse a counter culture league.
  17. Tome Europes exclusion to this point kind of baffled me. Especially with the inclusion of guys who didnt play S. Imo lysack wasnt here long, but he was taylor loffler on a team with bad coverage in front of him. I wouldnt give it to either really. Also, Mo leggett was a S here for two years before switching to sam. Thats a lot more play then most of the guys on the list, and one of the best calibres of play.
  18. I give the stamps all the credit. They dealt with our push at the end, and they did everything they had to to win the game. It wasn't the defensive performance of the decade. We left points out there. Both Nichols and Streveler guys that would have been tds. Calgary did everything it had to in order to win. and we did not. It was a defensive battle and a great game. Calgary didn't do anything defensively we weren't capable of beating.
  19. Agreed. Even if we see the best nichols ever, I still think that streveler package gets more use next year. With harris, streveler, and demski its just a nightmare. 3 guys who can run, 2 guys who catch, 1 guy who passes even if you only use it a few times a game the D has to spend soo much time preparing for it. Opens up a ton for the regular offense.
  20. That list is just awful. lmao @ fb instead of a 5th wr.
  21. nah the als under don Mathews, and previous Buono led super teams I liked. Despite some greasy stuff with the als back then. I just really do not like these two organizations. If insomnia becomes an issue ill give it a try. 😁 agree
  22. A team I don't want to see win is going to win. Outside of the riders, these are two of my least favorite franchises.
  23. age modified by catastrophic injury. If it wasnt for the two injuries mo would still be a MODP candidate. And our season would have been very very different. Would love to have him as a LBer coach. The best solo open field tackling sam in this era for my money.
  24. Of course, I've seen it. But to get noticeably better talent wise would be a huge deal. It's going to be really hard to maintain the same caliber of team, little on add to it. A lot of our FAs are guys we need back. That doesn't leave much room to go out and add. Demski could well be poised for a raise, The OL, Medlock, jeffcoat, biggie, JSK is going to be bound for a good size raise, brandon alexander etc. I dont see any of those guys needing to take Less money. The likes of JSK, jeffcoat, biggie, alexander and the OL fa's are likely to be prime targets for other teams. Add onto that the possibility that we try to lock up streveler to an extension this off season to prevent him from hitting FA next year (which would be great) and its tough to see a lot of free cap space.
  25. I would take trestman over mos in a heart beat. The offense and defense both showed enough at various points this year to keep the respective COs around. That said, we have limited ability to improve our talent from where we ended the season. A system change is our biggest hope at a major improvement. Its a huge risk though.
